Sources: Y! Sources: In pursuit of free agent Dwight Howard, the Rockets plan to trade Thomas Robinson to clear cap space

Thoughts? I remember last year a lot of you were high on him being with the Cavs, perhaps they trade for him? Ideas where he could go?

Charlotte could be an option as they have a PF need. Philly need frontcourters and someone like Coach Karl at Denver has a good record of developing bigs so could maybe do something with him. Even the Knicks with an ageing frontcourt behind Chandler and STAT could take a punt on him and he could have Camby and possibly K-Mart to mentor him.

I agree with clearing space for Dwight if you are the Rockets, and they have so many young PFs, but it’s just too bad to see a second team give up on Thomas Robinson. His per 36 min averages were good for a rookie: 11.4 PPG and 10.7 RPG. If they are truly shopping him for cap space (which means draft picks), I don’t see why a team like the Cavs, Bobcats, or any other team under the cap wouldn’t push to trade future pick(s) to bring Robinson in. Since it is mostly a salary dump, it will probably be a lopsided trade, but maybe they get a late 1st this year and a future pick.

The Rockets just have way too many young PF’s. Terrence Jones, T-Rob, Montejunas, Royce White and Olbrecht and Smith if you count them as PF’s instead of C’s. We all knew they are going to get rid of somebody. T-Rob if they want to clear up cap and I’m sure Royce White is done in Houston after everything that happened last year.

I dont see Cleveland in the mix for Robinson. Theyre already staffed at the PF/C positions for the time being. They have Varejao, Thompson, Zeller, probably Noel, and possibly Speights all splitting time between the 2 positions. Although, if Speights opts out, Zeller or Varejao are traded, planing for expected injuries, or Noel isnt the #1 selection, Robinson could be an option going forward at $3.5mil next year, then team options of 3.6, 4.6 and a qualifying offer in 16/17 of around $6.2 mil.

Id like to see him get some run in with a team where he wouldnt be splitting time with 3/4 other players though

Come on @DizzleCali you know better than to include Royce White in any post that should matter.

I’m a big T-Rob fan and have been for years but was confused when people thought Houston got a steal with the Patterson trade. The way I see it T-Rob is Patterson minus the jumper at this point. I hope he can find somewhere where he can get significant minutes. Weird to think he might be on three NBA teams with only one year under his belt.

Trade him to Charlotte. He’d get minutes, clean the glass and he and MKG would be a very young, athletic forward combo. I thought the Cats would have been his best destination and I still feel that way.

Rockets looking for a trade partner preferably with cap space to absorb Robinsons contract without sending anything back. That limits the list of teams right there. A team with a player on a non guaranteed contract could also capitalize but the buyout on said player would have to be cheaper than Robinsons contract to actually make sense so this a limited list as well. Pistons would be smart to try their luck with him. 3 man rotation of Monroe, Drummond, and Robinson looks good on paper. Phoenix, NOLA, ATL, Indiana, Utah, Charlotte, and Philly could all be in play.

Another team that could be in the mix would be the Jazz. If they want to go all in with Favors and Kanter, they could send one of their 1st round picks this year (14 or 21) as well as a future pick to bring Robinson in as their 3rd big. They might find that Millsap and Al Jeff are too pricey and are stunting the growth of their young and talented bigs. All three guys could grow together. That’d be a pretty decent/young/up and coming big man rotation.

wow if he gets traded twice before his second year in the league it’s almost unfair. Just before the draft last year I had him pegged as my preseason ROY. He has obvious limitations but he still has potential as well, it would be nice for someone to give him a real shot and let him play serious minutes, perhaps next to a longer big with a better defensive presence.

there’s a few options, send him to a team with some mentors (players and coaches) boston, san antonio t-rob learning from garnett or duncan will raise his bbiq instantly or get him somewhere like charlotte he’ll play 30+ minutes a game lets hope he’s not the next tyrus thomas though

I can see Philly pursuing him. If they let Bynum go, Hawes will most likely become their starting center. Being a finesse, perimeter oriented center, they can use a tough interior pf alongside him like Robinson. Same goes for the Magic, and pair him alongside Vuvecic. A future pick is all Houston will want.

The Magic should pursue this, along with trading for Bledsoe and hopefully drafting McLemore. Very young team, with a lot of potential that could still contend for a playoffs spot.

Atlanta has 2 first round picks and likely will lose Josh Smith, that would be a nice spot for him.

After watching him against play against Kentucky, it was obvious he was going to struggle in the NBA scoring against legit big men. Now another team is looking to deal him….. If I’m a GM, he’s not a guy I’m looking to deal for.

I’d really like the Pacers to grab him for a first round pick or something. Then they don’t have to resign psycho t and Robinson can back up West once they resign him and Robinson can become their future pf.

To the Bobcats for a future first round draft pick – 2014 top 6 protected. 2015 top 6 protected. 2016 unrestricted.

Those protections are way too generous for a guy the Rockets want to dump to make a run at Howard. Maybe they think he can be a good player in time but it’s not like they spent the fifth pick on him like Sacramento did. All they did was ship out Cole Aldrich, Toney Douglas, Patrick Patterson and cash. Charlotte would be crazy to give up such a tantalizing pick for a guy who was horrible last season.

Hmm. They must have a plan. Because with all those PFs on the roster (and remember they traded the two best, so there really aren’t that many) the fact is in the playoffs they played Chandler Parsons at the 4 (with Delfino at the the three) and only got away with it because they were playing OKC with Ibaka and Perkins often on the floor and neither have postup games.

I like Asik, so I’d hate to see him relegated into a backup role again and limited minutes. But a pick and role with Harden and Dwight does sound fearsome.

The 76ers have the 11th pick and are targeting Shabazz and KCP to replace Turner, who we are souring on quickly…

The 6ers also owe a 1st rounder to Miami and Orlando in the Future, I’m not sure when these picks have to be given up, If we have the rights to our 2014 pick then we could offer the Rockets that plus our two 2nd rounders in 2013 for TRob.

If the Rockets are trying to clear cap then they may not want a 1st rounder back because that puts money on their books and hurts their chances to sign Howard, so maybe our 2 second round picks plus CASH $$$ makes Houston bite…

Word is the 76ers are going to offer Bynum a 4 year/60 million dollar deal with Team Options on years 3 and 4, they’re not going to get a better free agent to sign here and they lost a lot of assets when they traded for him…

Also heard Nick Young is gone and Dorrell Wright is being resigned and injected in the starting lineup as our SF

We like Corey Brewer and Ramon Sessions as Free Agent signing too

A resgned Bynum and Wright along with the additions of Mohammed, TRob and Brewer would be great for this franchise going forward

Atlanta for one of their first rounders could be a fit and I like the Pacers one if they let Tyler H walk.

The Rockets would be reluctant to give him to a contender especially out West so a move to a team like Charlotte would be perfect.
