Ricky Davis, 32, and Greg Ostertag, 38, are both planning on making a comeback thorough the D-League.

Ricky Davis as we all now wasa  very promsing young athletic SF, who had incredible length. He played witht he Hornets  early in the decade, Heat aned Caviliers. He scored 20 a game with the Cavs teh season before Lebron, was dealt to Boston. Put up decent numbers there, dealt to Minnesota midway thorough the 06 season. Put up 17 a game in 07, dalt to Miami in the summe of 07, was slightly less productive in Miami, but still put up 13 a game, then played for the Clippers the next two years and couldn’t get on the court, and hasn’t played in the NBA since the 09-10 season. I think that if he can score efficeintly and be a good influence, maybe he can help someone.

Ostertag as we all remember was a big on Utah’s teams in the late 90’s. He hasn’t played since 05-06, and even when he did play, was a backup big at best, and I don’t see him being very appealing to many NBA teams. But then again, you can never have enough big men, lol

Ricky Davis?  Ok, i can see it.  Good player, one-time 20 ppg scorer, could provide some bench scoring.  But when I read Greg Ostertag, well…

Ricky Davis is done. He was always a selfish chucker, but now with zapped athleticism.

I remember when asked about LeBron James, Ricky Davis replied "I thought Cleveland was bringing in someone to pass me the ball" lol.

Ricky is a career 14ppg on a 45% shooting.  He’s had some very good years in the league I was shocked to notice he hasn’t been in the league the last couple of seasons beccause he was hurt his last season with the Clippers but should be healthy by now.  He actually 5.5 assists the year he averaged 20 he in fact averaged over 5 assists 3 times so he wasn’t a complete black hole.

The Celtics used him the best as an energy scorer off the bench.  I’m gonna be rooting for him to make a team.

I remember when Utah was playing against the Clippers Ostertag’s dentures came out and 2 guys sitting behind the bench were tossed out of the arena for throwing chewing gum at him……

It might sound funny now that Ricky Davis said that but in reality they should of built around James and Davis.  Let’s look at this logically.  Ricky Davis was coming off his best season as a pro at age 22 when he averaged 20 ppg, 5 rpg, 5 apg, and 1.5 spg.  At this point he had gotten significantly better every year in the league and turned himself into one of the most feared slashers in the league and one of the most exciting players period.

I never thought at the time trading Davis made any sense.  I was a Cav’s fan way before Lebron got their because of Andre Miller, and then Ricky Davis and Darius Miles.  Ricky Davis around that time became my favorite player in the league not named Allen Iverson or Jason Williams.

When Lebron got to the team Ricky Davis actually become the perfect side kick for him.  Davis and James were incredible in the few games they played together.  James was averaging like 20, 5, n 5.  And Ricky Davis was averaging 15, 5, n 5.  James was 18 of course and Ricky Davis was still only 23 at the time and they were already the single most athletic wing combo in the league and were deadly explosive together.  They were 2 freak athletes playing on the wing who unstoppable in the open court putting up big numbers and neither one of them were in their prime yet.

But because of Davis’ past trouble with Coach Silas’ they shipped him and Chris Mihm out of town for Tony Battie, Eric Williams, and Kedrick Brown.  At the time Battie was averaging 5ppg, and 5 rpg in Boston and his career numbers were even worse.  Eric Williams was already at the end of his career and was no long able to contribute at a high level.  And Kedrick Brown was a rookie or his 2nd year but at the very best Brown’s potential was half of what Ricky Davis was already putting up.

Davis went on to have a very good career averaging 19 ppg in Boston then Minny.  Pat Riley wound up trading a 1st round pick to bring him back to Miami in ’07, Pat Riley said ""I made the mistake of trading him. He’s a very talented kid. He was not a problem here. We just needed to move and get bigger players at that time. Over the last six years he has been very efficient."

In hindsight the Cav’s never had a wing after that as good as Ricky Davis, and never surrounded LeBron with a 2nd scorer and playmaker as good as Ricky Davis.  Mo Williams while being a better outside shooter was not the scorer Davis was and he was just barely a better passer.  Mo’s first year playing with Lebron he only averaged like 4 assists and 5 the 2nd year. It seemed liked Davis and James had chemistry from the get go.

The Cavs could of had a monster lineup featuring LeBron James, Ricky Davis, Carlos Boozer, and The Big Z but they made dumb decisions and ruined it that’s why Lebron left.  And the Boozer situation could of been avoided by paying the guy the money he deserved in the first place.
