Ray Allen

Is it just me? Or does anyone else think that Ray has sacrificed his reputation to win another ring? I' am an upset Celtics fan, BUT I also know that basketball is a business, and he was free to choose where he wants to play, and I respect that, but I DO NOT respect the fact that he chose a hated rival of his old team and now wants to play for them. My point is, am I the only one that thinks Ray is going to be hated by everyone outside of Florida? Not just Boston, but EVERYWHERE, thoughts?

Why should he remain loyal to

Why should he remain loyal to a team that tried to trade him all season? No player wants to hear their name in rumors all season, to make matters worst the signing of Jason Terry and the emergence of Avery Bradley forced his way out, in this age of basketball where everyone takes the money and run, why would you hate him for taking a major pay cut to win another ring, this guys at the end of his career let him get a chance to win another championship

no...

Terry was brought in as more firepower off the bench So Ray and Terry could have been a great one two punch that would have been a force to be reckoned with, that was Danny Ainge's plan, he WANTED Ray to stay and continue to be a piece for another championship run, its unfortunate Ray couldn't see that

i'm absolutely agree with

i'm absolutely agree with you, Terry was just a great addition, Ray would have still be a nice part of the team, certainly it would gonna be nicer and bigger role than to play behind LeBron and Wade.

i lost so much respect for him, i don't have problem with him leaving Boston, i have problem with him signing in Miami, his biggest enemy in the last faw years, sell himself to chase a ring in the cheaper and derisible way there is.

In regards to the many

In regards to the many attempts to trade Ray Allen and him actually being traded:

It's kind of like your wife or girlfriend is thinking of cheating on you then she actually does and when it's all over she comes back to you and tells you about it... then says I love you and I want to be with you forever...

It kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth, that likely even the no trade clause offer couldn't settle. As some other people have said Ray Allen is 37 years old and has a family. He likely thought he would be in Boston until the end of his career, but when he actually got traded to Memphis and it was rescinded...he probably decided he'd leave in free agency.

he could have sacrificed

he could have sacrificed "some" of his reputation, but very little....and all at the cost of bolstering his legacy. the positive effect of him being a big part of another championship far outweighs a few current day fans viewing him as a traitor.

Also getbuckets, I'm pretty

Also getbuckets, I'm pretty sure Boston had a No Trade clause invested in Ray's contract. If that isn't a sign of we want you here until you retire, trust us, I don't know what is. I don't think Ray signed the contract to spite the C's, but I do think some bad blood was the cause whether it be Rondo, Ainge or whatever. I lost a little respect for Ray as well, but it was his decision and he chose the Heat.

I'm not mad that Ray went to

I'm not mad that Ray went to the Heat, but am kind of sadened that he chose them over the Celtics, who many agree are still contenders. It shows no loyalty, but I can't complain because loyalty no longer exists in the NBA like it used to. I have way more respect for guys like Nash and Dirk then any of these ring chasers now a days. I just hope Allen stays classy, and doesn't sell out and become a part of flop city.

Totaly different situation.

Totaly different situation. Nash was on a team that wasn't even going above .500, and this was going to be his final contract. The Celtics brought the Heat to 7 games last year, and have had one of the better off seasons so far. While I still don't think they could beat the Heat it would be crazy to compare the two situations. This is just a simple case of "If you can't beat em, join em"

Was this ever a problem

Was this ever a problem before Lebron joined the Heat? Now everyone gets butthurt over moves like this. This is about Allen not the fans. He wants to do for whats best for him and I can't kill a guy over that. He didn't do anything selfish to get hate especially since he is a pretty nice guy.

JaeEvolution I know they gave

JaeEvolution I know they gave him a no trade clause but I think it was a little too late for that seeing that him and Rondo have a unrepariable relationship and he was nearly traded to Memphis. Ray felt they wasn't loyal to him during the season with hid name linked to clippers,Knicks, grizzlies, timberwolves all season so he wasn't loyal to them

Lmao at this whole loyalty crap

Ray Allen was basically on the Grizzlies at one point without him even knowing. Where's the loyalty there?

His legacy is definately not

His legacy is definately not gone. He just likely will not have his number retired in Boston now. Garnett will.

I just hope he still gets a standing O when he comes back to the Garden. Those were as great five years - sorry to lose the guy.

Die hard celtics fan

As much as I love the celtic's and Ray Allen, this was a great career move by him. He struggled with injuries last year and if he continued playing with the celtics he would be asked to do more and he would of struggled all the same. He is only getting older now instead of running off ball screens and cutting to the hoop and trying to play the way he has been with the celtics, all he has to do is go sit in the corner and increase his all time 3 pt record.

I hate to see him go, but at least I got to see the celtics win one championship. Without ray Allen that wouldn't of happened.

With all that said I won't be hating the guy, but I don't want the heat winning it all again.

The Celtics shopped him all

The Celtics shopped him all season long. If he signed there it would probably be the same thing next year and then he is stuck in a situation he doesn't want to be in. I don't blame him one bit for joining the HEAT. He was already asked to come off the bench and thats something that is easier to do for a new team rather than one you started on for 3 years.

The Celtics wanted Allen back

The Celtics wanted Allen back so bad that they even were willing to give him a no trade clause...Really, you know the only players in the NBA with one of those? They go by the names of Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki.

Does that change the fact

Does that change the fact that he was shopped for half the season? No it doesn't. Ray Allen owes nothing to Boston. TOL is a 100% right on this. No one would care had he gone to Dallas or the Clips or Chicago. But because it's Miami everyone becomes abnormally stupid.

Ray allen has played on the Bucks the Sonics and the Celtics....

Relax who cares that hes gone on to greener pastures. The guy is a class act hard worker and anyone that determines that his "legacy" is tainted is ignorant giving the rest of the world reason to say Americans are ugly and stupid. Try something new and remove the hate and wish the guy luck... UNTIL HE IS SCORCHING YOUR TEAM FROM DOWNTOWN, then I understand lol. :)

This will make another

This will make another potential Miami-Boston playoff slugfest all the more interesting.

Ray Allen should help the Heat, but the team will still go only as far as LeBron (and Wade) take them. I also don't see Ray Allen spending much time on the court with both LeBron and Wade, unless they go small and put D Wade at the 3, whereas in Boston Ray Allen is a perfect fit with the other members of the Big Four (Rondo, Pierce, and KG) as a shooting guard even if Avery Bradley starts. A bench combo of Jason Terry and Ray Allen at guard with Fab Melo and Sully inside also makes more sense.

I understand this move from Ray Allen's side. But, "putting the band back together" with the help of Ray Allen, adding Jet plus Sully and Fab Melo and then winning a title would be a great way for Mr. Shuttlesworth to ride off into the sunset.
