Lets say they got the #1 Pick. Would you
    A) Draft Kanter and have a Euro Big to Build around
    B) Draft Irving or Knight PG of the future
    C) Barnes the popular #1 choice but not their biggest need

Personally I go with C and try to over pay for a big (gasol or horford) and grab a PG the next year Rivers(drool) or one of the Canadians.

    Thoughts?

    I would go A

I really like Enes Kanter. His game to me is super impressive. I think he would be a great fit next to Andrea Bargnani. I love the comparison for Kanter in Al Horford as well. I like his range on his jumper, seen him hit a couple 3’s. He’s a legit 6-10, 6-11 and could play down low.

The Raptors are most likely 2-3 season away from the playoffs. I think Bargs, DeRozan and Kanter is a pretty impressive core.

If DeRozan shows something else beside scoring, I would take C and go Barnes.

I personally think they should look to pick Kyrie Irving or Brandon Knight. Both look like players who can be true franchise talents.

Kanter and Barnes are going to be studs too, but I think Derozan is the SF of the future and with Kanter, I have doubts that his NBA impact will be felt as much as Knight and Irving’s will be.

If Derozan can switch to SG then Barnes all the way! But they all seem like logical choices. I like Kanter and Irving but I think we can get a PG in the 2012 draft. Barnes can play SF and our line-up would look something like this.

    Bargnani
    Davis
    Barnes
    DeRozan
    Jack

How good do you think Barnes will be? You think he will reach superstardom level as Durant, Howard and LBJ? Or would Irving have a better chance at being that. Toronto needs a superstar hands down.

Do any of the Rapture fans find it insulting, that it was just assumed that you would have the best shout at the Number one pick?

Perry Jones could also be a good pick if he plays to his full potential.
but id be happy with Irving, Barnes or Jones.
Kanter is a great player but raps just drafted a big man and we have bargnani, why draft another big man.

Colengelo loves Euro players so he would want to pick Kanter the thing is we have Andrea Barganani, just gave amir johnson a 34 mil contract and just drafted Ed Davis so that pick probably wont happen. so i say pick a strong point guard or Barnes but I would have to go with Barnes he’s the safest pick

Barnes at #1. If you are a bad enough team to draft 1st overall you take the BPA. It’s not like they have an established player at SF right now anyway. Best case scenario if they draft Barnes they could wind up with this starting lineup next year:

    PG Jarrett Jack
    SG Demarr Derozan
    SF Harrison Barnes
    PF Ed Davis
    C Andrea Bargnani

Young, athletic and with defensive potential from positions 1 through 4.

Honestly though, if the Raptors end up with a top 3 pick I think they should also consider making a play for another draft pick at around the #10-#20 area and get Corey Joseph. They could really use an excellent perimeter defender and adding a local player like Joseph should really energize the fan base.

Why are we happy that we get the #1 pick? I don’t find it insulting at all! This means we start fresh and we can get the best talent available.

The Raptors need post Player and a point guard

    Expiring contracts
    Barbosa 7 mil player option
    Julian Wright 3 mil
    David Anderson 2.5 Team option
    Reggie Evans 5 mill
    Marcus Banks 4.7 mill
    Sonny Weems 0.7

    Currently 4.8 mill over cap

after this year cap space to sign players – 11.9 (18.9 with Barbosa)

Al Horford would be a great pick up for this team
    draft a point guard

Trade idea to dump Calderon, Calderon for Diaw (expiring) and 2 2nd rounders

    Build team around

    Derozen, Draft pick, Barg, Horford

    just an idea

But Andrea Bargnani wasn’t that good to be the 1st pick anyway. Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and you could have moved down for Rajon Rondo.

You took the worst of the 4. Kanter is way better then Bargnani coming out.

Easy to say in hindsight but at the time it was a mediocre draft and most people agreed that Bargnani was the best prospect available. At the time I thought only Aldridge was better than him as a prospect, but he was probably too similiar to Bosh for the Raptors to take him anyway.

Do a deal where it roughly works out as Samuel Dalembert and Beno Udric for jose calderon. dalembert is a 13 million expiring contract, but it would allow bargnarni to play PF next to a legit C. even if he doesn’t always play to his percieved potential this should help TOR to work out how legit Bargnarni is.

If Bargs Proves he is a legit franchise player in this combination by midseason, Toronto should make a strong push for tony parker. Something like Davis, kleiza and good expirings

    2011 or 2012 Draft pick
    Derozen
    2011 or 2012 draft pick
    Barg
    Horford

All they gotta do is get a great point guard out of the draft and since they will have a high pick thats most likely going to happen ie. (Rose and Wall, i can go back to Paul and Williams) Irving or Knight would be a good grab

    Knight or Irving
    Derozen
    2012 pick
    Barg
    free agent Banger

Just sit and wait for them to develop

Barnes would play the two as a mismatch every night. He’s probably a better ball handler than Derozen right now, so I’d rather have him in a position to match up against those 6’5″ and below combo guards and really utilize his post game and footwork. Better than trying to post up the Lebron’s, Melo’s, Gay’s, Durant’s, and Artest’s of the NBA.

Knight would probably be the best overall fit, but I think Barnes will be the best player.

i think they should take irving as well, big men are always a risk and i think irving has chris paul type ability. and look at the last team to pass up a pointguard, atlanta passed on paul a few years ago and are still paying for it. i mean barnes should be picked number 1 because lik it was said, they dont have a true 3 anyway. derozan and barnes could be a great tandem in the future but if they dont have number 1 pick i think they should take irving. kanter has questions health wise, the dont need perry jones because i think he is a 4 not a 3, and im not sold on brandon knight as an elite nba player.

Go with the player who has the best chance at being a star and maximizing the talent already on the ready. A play can do this by throwing nice oops to DDR and Davis, and driving and kicking out to Bargs and Kleiza. That player will either be Irving or Knight. I think Irving might be the better point guard but Knight got more star qualities and franchise leadership abilities. Josh Shelby is a darkhorse to be a top 5 talent too.

Agreed but anyone who saw Roy play at Washington and Aldridge at Texas knew these guys were legit. Anyone who saw Rondo rebound and pass at Kentucky thought he was a good player, he only dropped because he didn’t have solid workouts and couldn’t shoot. To be honest, I wasn’t a lock that everyone thought Bargs was the #1 guy. I remember Ty Thomas, Aldridge and even Marcus Williams getting love for the #1 overall pick.

Plus, my thinking: You have a nice big man in Chris Bosh. Twin Tower combos NEVER work. Why not just take Brandon Roy to go and pair with him?

It was an overall weak draft and not single gm with the first pick would of pick Roy no one expected him to be that good similiar to Tyreke Evans this year everyone knew he was good but no one knew that good

Yes but in a weak draft, you should be able to scout talent better in some cases. Brandon Roy was a stud at Washington and almost led them to a upset of UCONN that year. LaMarcus Aldridge was a stud at Texas before he get eliminated in the 2nd round. I saw Bargnani in a game where it was Italy vs the Raptors before he was picked and he was alright. Not good but alright.

Tyreke Evans was different from Roy. Roy had 2 1/2 years of tape. Evans had 1 season of tape.

That was a weird draft because there was no clear cut number one pick.  I honestly thought Rudy Gay was the best prospect and thought the Raps were crazing not drafting him.  My big board for the top 8 of that draft was:

    Rudy Gay

    Aldridge

    Bargnani

    Morrison

    Foye

    Thomas

    Ronnie Brewer

    Roy

I wasn’t sold on Roy as a prospect I knew he would be rock solid but I didn’t think he had the potential to do what he is doing.  I thought Foye was hands down better because he was a way more explosive athlete, only like an inch shorter, and a better shooter.  I also thought Brewer would be better because of his length and athleticism not to mention he showed flashed of being able to be a point forward in college and a lock down defender.  Carney was easily top ten on my list too.  And beleive it or not so was Rondo the guy is a freak athlete and a pass first point guard I was praying the Sixers drafted him because I envisioned him and Iggy running fast breaks in the future and the sight was scary because they are both long, quick athletes who would of looked good together.

Rondo was a rebounding beast at UK after I think Morris left for the NBA midseason ( I believe that’s the year) or a big got hurt. I knew Rondo would be a good PG in the NBA. I didn’t see a top 5 pg but a good PG.

Carney was a tad overrated to me because he had no jumper.

Carney is a decent shooter, more so from mid-range though. I was happy as hell as a middle schooler when I saw that Philly got Carney. haha. He just wasn’t smart or consistent, was a bad defender for his physical ability, and his handle was too bad for him to make a real impact in the NBA.

I agree with Rudy Gay. I remember he was a stud at UCONN and people labeled him with the "he’s good when he wants to" tag. I laughed because the same ppl called him a Scottie Pippen clone.

To me, I’m taking the clone no matter how hard he tries.
