It will be very interesting to see how the draft shakes out this summer. It is obvious who the # 1 prospect is so it would be earthshattering for Davis not to go first. I will start my rankings at the second spot…

    2. MKG- With this kid you know what you are getting and he has almost zero bust potential. That is what mostly gave him the edge over Drummond. I think he is an underrated shooter and he is already a relentless rebounder and defender. With some fine tuning and an aggressive attitude he could be an all star for years to come.

    3. Drummond- He has the size and athleticism that scouts drool over…the only problem is it didn’t really translate like most people thought it would at UCONN. You could argue that his potential is up there with Davis but since Davis is a can’t miss and Drummonds work ethic and motor are questioned he is not in the same class as Davis.

4.Thomas Robinson- He flourished this season after the Morris Twins left and opened up more minutes. Last year you could already tell he was a special player, especially going through the heartbreak he had to endure. You really have to root for this kid and as a player there is a lot to root for. He has a rock solid midrange jumper already and the strength and work ethic he has will translate into more of a post game as he matures. I could see him developing into a Paul Milsap type PF who is on the fringe of the all star game but just not quite enough talent to be a perennial all star.

5.Perry Jones- This is where it starts to get hairy and the prospects all seem close in these next 4 slots. I know some may object but I would go with PJ3, even though he seemed disinterested and timid in some games for Baylor. When he was on and attacking he looked like the guy people were talking about going first a couple years ago. If he continues to work on his stroke and stays aggressive he could be the top SF in the draft over MKG on pure potential. MKG is a better rebounder right now despite giving up a few inches to Jones however I feel like with Perrys size he could be a matchup nightmare at PF while MKG would only be able to occassionally play the 4 due to his size.

    6. Brad Beal- He had a terriffic freshmen season at Florida but went under the radar because of his teams balance and veteran players in the backcourt. He has a fine tuned offense game for such a young player and the comparisons to Eric Gordon seem spot on. Hopefully he just has an easier time staying healthy because he will be a top 10 SG for years to come.

7.Harrison Barnes- After his slow start at UNC two years ago Harrison Barnes proved he is one of the best scoring wings in the NCAA his sophomore year. He was very consistent and showed he will be able to put the ball in the bucket at the next level. The only thing I worry about is the fact that he does not contribute in many other aspects of the game. He is a solid defender but not the athlete he was made out to be. On offense he does not get to the basket as much as I would like to see and relies heavily on his jumper. Good NBA teams will notice this and run him off of jumpshots and force him to go in the paint where he must prove he can score consistently.

    8. Jeremy Lamb- Last year he would have been ahead of both Barnes and Beal based on his NCAA tourney breakout but this year I cannot put him up there. He was nowhere near as efficent in his second season at UCONN when Kemba was no longer there to draw defenders. He still has a nice jumpshot and pretty good length but ultimately took a step back in the eyes of most scouts this season.

    9. Tyler Zeller- Two Words….Baby Hook. He has something that takes many 7 footers years in the league to figure out already and that is a go to post move. He won’t obviously have as good position with stronger defenders in the pros but looks like he will be able to contribute right away. I love the way he runs the floor and finishes. He isn’t much of a shot blocker for a 7 footer but he does play good position defense and is a solid rebounder. He will never be an all-star player but he will be a serviceable starting center for years to come.

    10. Kendall Marshall- While he wasn’t the best player on the Heels this season he was undoubtably their most important. Once he was injured the teams chances of a title were almost zero. He passes ahead better than any player I have seen in a while and with an uptempo team with athletic wings and bigs he could be an assist machine. He is never going to average 20 points a game but he has improved his shooting and does a pretty good job finishing inside. He leaves a little to be desired on the defensive side of the ball and does not have the pure quickness of a Ty Lawson but will be a good PG in the league with some improvements.

Well what do you guys think? Who are your 2-10 prospects?

    2. MKG

    3. TROB

    4. Drummond

    5. Beal

    6. Barnes

    7. P Jones

    8. Lamb

    9. This is probably too high but I think people are underating Sullinger, he will be solid in the NBA

    10.  Marshall or Zeller

I think both Waiters and Ross have a shot to jump in 10 or 9 spots depending on how they work out with teams

I am a big Perry Jones believer and base his 5th ranking on his potential which I feel is greater than anyone I listed below him. I admit he could be a bust because of his sometimes lackadaisical approach but I have a feeling he will impress at the next level. You still have him ranked 7th so 5th isn’t that far away. It isn’t like I ranked him second even though on potential alone he is in my top 3 behind Davis and Drummond.

Sullinger was in consideration for one of my last spots as well but I really see him more like a Brandon Bass or Big Baby Davis type player. He could start for you at PF you just better hope you have an athletic center to make up for it. If he slims down a bit, works on his explosiveness and extends his range he could be a future all star but see him more as a really good role player at this point.

Waiters was another player who just missed the cut off. He just looks like an NBA player when he has the ball coming off the pick and roll. He is a consistent shooter who could thrive in the a James Harden type role as a teams third scorer coming off the bench playing 1 and 2. Defensively he has question marks but mostly just due to the fact that he has played the 2-3 zone his two years in college.

    Thanks for the feedback.

See my Chad Ford tweet thread about Perry Jones.

Those are good top 10 lists.  In terms of upside/ceiling, I have MKG and Perry Jones as the guys with the most potential outside of Anthony Davis.  T Rob is next on the list depending on his height and length.  Drummond is next with maybe Jeremy Lamb.

Brad Beal looks solid, but his size limits his upside.  The next Eric Gordon would be great.  But the next OJ Mayo, not so much.  Beal wasn’t known as a dead-eye shooter in college either so take that into consideration.  Not sure he is worth a top 2 or 3 pick.  More likely in the 4-8 range.

I want to see who is picking where to make a legit top 10 list, but here is a preliminary Top 15 list now anyway:

    1.  Anthony Davis

    2.   MKG

    3.  Thomas Robinson

    4.  Andre Drummond

    5.  Perry Jones

    6.  Brad Beal

    7.  Harrison Barnes

    8.  Jeremy Lamb

    9.  Jared Sullinger

    10.  Tyler Zeller

    11.  Kendall Marshall

    12.  Terrance Jones

    13.  John Henson

    14.  Damian Lillard

    15.  Austin Rivers

I am worried about Drummond’s motor and his height.  If he is closer to 6’10 that might limit his upside.  I don’t like his free throw shooting either.  If those things are resolved then he looks more like the 2nd pick.

Perry Jones is the ultimate 2-8 guy since he could end up anywhere in that range, or even drop a bit lower.

Sully is a solid value pick, especially if he is close to 6’10 in shoes.  Nice talent with a low floor.  You kind of know what you are getting.

Terrence Jones and John Henson are also solid players in that 2-8 range or just past that.  You also know what you are getting with these guys.

Rivers and Lillard are two wildcards.  They could go anywhere from mid-lotto to late teens.

My top five in terms of guys I like and where I think they will go as Anthony Davis (number one), with MKG, T Rob, Drummond, and Perry Jones in some kind of order.  Then from 6-8 I have Brad Beal and Harrison Barnes.  Beal sounds good but he might be closer to 6’3 and not a dead-eye shooter.  Barnes is solid but there are some other guys with more potential.  Then you have the 9-15/20 range with everyone else.  … the other top guys in my Top 15 plus Arnette Moultrie and some others.  Fab Melo might also get into the top 20.

I already posted on your PJ3 thread and will continue to do so because he is the most enigmatic prospect in the lottery.

Drummond is hideous from the line but that didn’t stop the Cavs from surprisingly selecting Tristan Thompson 4th overall last year. He will never be a good ft shooter but if he gets over 55% that will be good enough.

Jones and Henson will both be solid but I can’t see either of them going in the type 5 or 6 spots. I would like my sixers to possibly get one of them right outside the lottery. Rivers I see more like an OJ Mayo type player who scores off the bench but doesn’t bring much else.

To be honest I did not get to see enough of Brad Beal to truly gauge his game and potential so he will be another interesting prospect.

I didn’t watch much of Beal either. But he sounds like Eric Gordon. His draft stock will depend somewhat on his
    workouts.

I respect this rankings. I dont agree with some but it is your opinion

I think MKG does have bust potential if he doesnt measure right and is forced to SG, cuz lets face it, not many teams will have a 6’5” SF. I like him so Im hoping he does measure at 6’7”

Rivers obviously has the potential to be one of the top 10 or even 5 players in this draft however I feel he is currently too one dimensional. He can score but he brings nothing else to the table. His defense is average and he never had to learn to set up his teammates. He could turn into a very good SG in the league because he does appear to have that killer instinct and he wants the ball at the end of the game…he just needs to develop a better all around game for me to put him in the top 10.
