So lately, there have been a number of interesting and exciting point guards that have shined because of injuries to certain players of their team. Basically, these guards are the Reggie Jacksons (OKC version) of this season, and can be the Reggie Jacksons (Prime DET version) in the future, where they’d eventually get the chance of leading their own team.

How then would rank these 4 guards:

    1) Shabazz Napier

    2) Tyus Jones

    3) Terry Rozier

    4) Delon Wright

My ranking goes as follows: Rozier, Napier, Wright then Jones.

Personally, I’ve been most impressed with the offensive skillset of Shabazz. He’s the best shooter/shot creator of the bunch, and has the most crafty handles. That said, he is the worst defender of the 4.

Which is why I’d rank Rozier the highest among all the guards. He’s the most complete player on offense and on D of the 4. Hayward’s injury really opened up some PT for him, and he’s been showing off. I won’t be surprised if one day, any of these guards would eventually be the starting PG of a team. I feel Rozier has the best chance of doing it though.

    1) Shabazz Napier- Looking like Lillard lite

    2) Tyus Jones- Impressive 3 and D guard. Makes Teague expendable

    3) Terry Rozier- Super crafty scoring combined with elite athleticsm makes him so fun to watch

    4) Delon Wright- One of the most aggressive driving guards I’ve seen. Elite size and Bball IQ for a PG.

I like Rozier a lot.  He could be a starting PG on a team with a stud wing or super center.

Wright can’t shoot but at least he is aggressive and he plays on a good team.  Jones is ok and Napier is lucky to be playing in this league. His situation seems like right place right time to me…like Spencer Dinwiddie or anyone playing on the Hawks right now.

    Rozier

    Wright

    Jones

    Napier

I would hate for him to turn out like Reggie Jackson.

Maybe not the exact player Reggie is but overall skill…probably not far off.  I think the whole point is to compare all these back-up PG’s.  I would actually like to see Rozier in Chicago.  To me, he is comparable to Dunn.  Napier back in Miami is a good call. If Tyus Jones cant thrive in Minnesota then I dont see a point.  And wright seems like a guy that could be a solid backup on any team in the league becaise he is long and attacks the rim.  Maybe he becomes Elfrid Payton 2.0

I think I’ll go with Jones first, very tough and heady player, his team look better with him instead of Teague, remind me a more talanted Tyronn Lue… Second Napier, is the most skilled and smooth as scorer, Mo Williams type… Rozier and Wright is a toss…

If I had to rank them Id go.

    Rozier

    Wright

    Napier

    Jones

    Heres the stats.

    Terry Rozier 23 MPG, 40% FG, 37% 3PT, 1.6 3PTM, 9.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.8 TO

    Delon Wright 21 MPG, 51% FG, 36% 3PT, 0.7 3PTM, 9.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 2.5 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.6 BPG, 1.4 TO

    Shabazz Napier 21 MPG, 49% FG, 42% 3PT, 1.0 3PTM, 10 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 2.2 APG, 1.4 SPG, 1.2 TO

    Tyus Jones 19.0 MPG, 45% FG, 33% 3PT, 0.5 3PTM, 4.7 PPG, 1.9 RPG, 2.9 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.7 TO

None of these guys are currently starter qaulity gaurds.

Rozier shows the most starter potential because of his aggressive mentality but he has the worst shot selection.

Wright struggles shooting are overblown, he started the year shooting 1/16 from 3PT but since then has shot 19/40. He shoots the highest percentage but is turnover prone and lacks the aggressiveness you would want from a starter. He also has the most size, length and athletisism which is why I would probably take him first.

Napier shows the most upside scoring and would thrive as a high volume shooter but doesnt get that oppurtunity in Portland with Mccollum and Lilliard. Best off the bench instant offense guy but most limited defensively.

Jones is the worst shooter of the bunch statistically and to me brings the least to the table.

I’m aware that he was traded (by both Miami & Orlando) for financial reasons but it’s funny that Shabazz Napier would actually be decent fit on both those squads. As the eventual successor to Dragic (who turns 32 this spring & can opt out in 2019) considering neither Trey Johnson or Josh Richardson are natural PG’s. Walton’s a third PG.

Or in Orlando where he’d be a better version of their current back up one, DJ Augustine & would probably end up beating out Elfrid Payton. Despite the latters improvement this season.
