valentineAround this time a year ago, Chase Jeter showed up in the 2016 mock draft as a top five pick. Has there ever been a more far off projection than that? He couldn’t even get off the bench despite the fact that Duke had no bench to speak of.

ChewyParticipantfirst mocks of any year. Cliff Alexander was top 3. DeAngelo Russel wasn’t even on the first mock his freshman year, but James Blackmon was. Perry Jones was top 10 one year. Sullinger was top 3 for a good stretch. I’m sure there are plenty more examples, but as far as I know, the old mocks are deleted when they update them.

ph90702The difference between those guys and Chase Jeter is that they all saw meaningful minutes as freshmen. It’s pretty sad when you’re a McDonald’s All-American and can’t even get off the bench.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantDwight Powell was projected as a #1 pick when he was a Junior in highschool

GBeeParticipantTop 5? When? I don’t remember that at all bc if I saw that, it would’ve stuck out like a sore thumb. Ignoring returning college players/ int’l players and just focusing on his class, he was barely top 15 in the final composite rankings (check RSCI). Now players can leapfrog higher ranked players when projecting them out to the next level, but Chase never fit the mold of the type of players who have done that. That’s usually reserved for players with exceptional physical tools, but were more raw coming out of HS. Top 5 one and doners are usually players with prodigious skill for their age, the aforementioned physical/athletic standouts or some combination of the 2. Chase was none of things coming out of HS.
Word is that he has made some strides over the offseason, so I wouldn’t call him going to Duke a mistake quite yet. He never struck me as a 1 and done type talent anyways. IMO, it was always going to be a multi year process for him whether he stayed home or not, but if the supposed improvement he’s made turns out to be a farce this year then you can start talking about him being at Duke a mistake.

flybobbyflyParticipantJames Mcadoo was projected number #1 over all before his freshman season

McDunkinNemanja Aleksandrov probably had the hardest/fastest fall from grace I might have seen from a prospect since I started following this website

Skeating12345ParticipantOut of Xavier was a projected lottery pick for most of the summer going into his sophomore year, and even was in the top 5 for some time. I’m pretty sure ended up getting picked up at the back of the 2nd round, but probably ended up overseas.

WrecklessParticipantThis site loved Ian Miller, even comparing him to Westbrook at some point in time lol

EspressoParticipantI thought a bunch of these players mentioned above s.ucked and expressed it. I constantly bashed Mcadoo, Ian Miller. We cannot forget about that super overrated PG from kentucky who ended up transfering, I can’t even remember his name, bashing that guy earned me at least 300 negs.
Semaj Christon on the other hand, I thought would be a complete stud and was one of my favorite players in CBB.
It’s pointless bringing mistakes by the site because we all do it

JoeWolf1Chase played well at the Adidas Nations this summer. I don’t think he’s going to necessarily be a top 10 pick, but I think he can do a few things that with continued growth (physically and as a player) will render him an NBA player.
I think in the all time misses of projected 1st rounders, Chase Jeter won’t be all that high. I could definitely see him being a legit NBA role player after 3 or 4 years at Duke.
