Lotto StudParticipantWhy do the follwoing players have multi-million $ contracts when they have not proved themselves?
Marvin Williams 7mil 4yrs
Boobie Gibson 4mil 3yrs
Jarrett Jack 4mil 3 yrs
Charlie Bell 4mil 2yrs
Ryan Gomes 4mil 3yrs
Luke Walton 5mil 3yrs
Darko Milicic 4mil 4yrs
Luke Ridnour 4mil 4yrs
Francisco Garcia 5mil 3yrs
Beno Udrih 6mil 2yrs
Tiago Splitter 3mil 2yrs0 - Posted on: Thu, 08/12/2010 - 7:57am #373896
Da1potParticipantThe only ones on here that I really think are bad are Marvin Williams, Luke Walton, Fransisco Garcia and Beno Udrih. Jack is a very valuable player defensively and Splitter will be an absolute steal at just 3 million dollars for what will likely be the starting center on a playoff team.

NYK2010ParticipantMarvin Williams as a starter 7 mill isn’t bad but they have to pay Horford still and JJ makes max.
Atlanta will have a lot of cap problems.
Boobie Gibson 4mil 3yrs – way too much becaz of that one playoff game or series he had, trade him already.
Jarrett Jack 4mil 3 yrs – Raps paying 3 Pg’s 20 mill with Calderon, Banks and Jacks crazy
Charlie Bell 4mil 2yrs – not that bad and they took him in a trade for Maggette
Ryan Gomes 4mil 3yrs – he’s a decent player this isn’t an awful contract
Luke Walton 5mil 3yrs – pretty bad he’s always hurt and won’t be used much with Barnes on the team.
Darko Milicic 4mil 4yrs 3 yrs guaranteed, the guy was headed to Europe why overpay for him.
Luke Ridnour 4mil 4yrs – Trade Sessions, cut West so only natural they give Ridnour big money since Kahn loves PGs.
Francisco Garcia 5mil 3yrs – Kings need some wing men but yeah this is too much for Garcia.
Beno Udrih 6mil 2yrs – Another guy who is making big bucks becaz he excelled as a back up.
Tiago Splitter 3mil 2yrs – Who knows how good he is but its a 2 yr gamble not too bad.0 - Posted on: Thu, 08/12/2010 - 8:04am #373927

TyroberParticipantTiago Splitter for 3mil isnt bad. I thought he was making around 6 lol. 3 mil is nothing if he is even half of what people expect out of him.

Lotto StudParticipantI feel as though Marvin Williams,Boobie Gibson,Luke Walton & Darko Milicic especially do not deserve the contracts they have.

I remember Darko was looking good in Memphis.

YSUFan10ParticipantJarrett Jack has a reasonable contract. Udrih and Ridnour also are proven NBA players, but i do believe they are both overpayed. Also, Ryan Gomes is a decent player, 3 or 3.5 mil would be better suited though.

Lotto StudParticipantWhat about Marvin Williams & Boobie Gibson contracts????? I believe they are over paid!!!!!! Marvin had promise written all over him coming out of UNC, I was even on the bandwagon. Boobie come on man he has never showed any of us that he was worth his contract. Just because he hit a couple big shots in the playoffs didn’t mean a thing to me. He’s an undersized shooter who can’t run a team.

ChewyParticipant10 mil this yr up to 13 mil in the last year. I think his mind moves to Tahiti when he crosses back into the defensive half of the court.
I think Luke Walton provides just what the Lakers want him to: a solid player, consumate professional, and gifted passer to hook up Odom, Kobe and Pau.
Darko really deserved his… haha jk. Can the NBA sue Darko for stealing money from NBA franchises?
Marvin Williams is young, long and athletic which apparently is all that matters to ATL and their continued goal of trying to start 5 wings. He has chemistry with the guys on the team and has his niche in the team… that counts for something right?

Lotto StudParticipantI did not add vets to the list because you would think their $ is owed to them, & others they just recieved their new contracts & haven’t played yet to see if they deserved it.

the I in winParticipantMarvin Williams – I agree very overpaid but he did seem to have a lot of potential, a jumpshot away from being a valuable player.
Boobie Gibson – He started by getting 35 on the Pistons in game 6 of the ECF when the Cavs went to the Finals (07 maybe). The next season he started the first 40 some games and averaged about 12 ppg and good effort on defence but got hurt and never regained his starting spot and never was on the court when they got Mo Williams.
Jarrett Jack – Has been solid where ever he has been even in his early years in Portland. He earned it.
Charlie Bell – Don’t know on this one, just a undersized shooter. Very similar players can be found all over the D-League.
Ryan Gomes – He is a big body which is worth money all by itself but he does provide a little scoring and strong rebounding. Shouldn’t start though.
Luke Walton – Played ok back before Bynum was anything and Pau was stuck in Memphis.
Darko – Same reason they drafted 5 PG’s in one draft, David Kahn.
Luke Ridnour – Was consistent and solid all last year for the Bucks and on some nights out played the little rookie.
Francisco Garcia – I think he can be much like John Salmons, once he gets moved he will be a solid contributer (not as much scoring) to a good team.
Beno Udrih – Sacramento was trying to steal a young prospect at a time when they didn’t have much going on. It didn’t work so great.
Tiago Splitter – I’ve never seen him play but from what I’ve heard he sounds like and athletic big and that would be great next to Timmy D. If he is a good cutter and finisher he will be good on weak side drop off’s from Manu of Paker/Hill.

JNixonParticipant“Marvin Williams – I agree very overpaid but he did seem to have a lot of potential, a jumpshot away from being a valuable player.”
Marvin Williams’ jump shot is the strongest skill he has, with his athleticism/strength being his best trait. Williams has a chance to live up to his deal, hopefully Coach Drew will get him more of a role than Coach Woodson did. Williams can score at all 3 levels (especially at the rim and in mid-range), and he has the post game to be a threat against smaller SF’s. He also has the ability to defend the Paul Pierce’s and Lebron James’ because of his athleticism and great size at SF. I think Coach Woodson did a rather bad job of getting Marvin Williams to be the threat he should be. I personally feel Williams would be a near 20 ppg scorer if he was given at least a FEW plays to run through him. He’s not overpaid, more like underused.

sheltwon3ParticipantMarvin Willliams deal is not bad but just a bad deal for that team since they have so many guys who can play the 3 spot and not many who are true big guys. They should move Marvin or Josh Smith for a legit 5.

PlatypusParticipantSmith needs to be a 4 he doesnt have the range or the dribbling to be a 3.
So either Williams and Horford need to be traded or Smith and Williams need to be traded
