I’m a pretty hardcore NBA fan, and i’ve been listening to the Lowe Post nba podcast for sometime now… and it’s good. Zach Lowe usually has guests that go into good detail on actual basketball related topics, Front Office news, rumors & analysis that are pretty entertaining. The only problem is that a new episode only airs, on average, once per week. I’ve tried others like the Ringer, the Vertical, and Open Floor, but the quality / format of their episodes vary from air to air.

So i’ve started looking for other podcasts too and from my commute to work that are good. And i’ve gotta say, I found a gem… and it’s called the Dunc’d on Basketball Podcast with Nate Duncan and Danny Leroux. No, this is not a plug or promo… as I have no attachments or motives tied to these dudes. But these guys are b@!!s deep in the NBA, and provide the most thorough professional basketball content i’ve ever seen. Plus they come out with new episodes every other day, which really appeals to a guy like me who keeps up with the NBA so regularly.

Just wanted to share this in case ya’ll felt the same way, and try giving this podcast a listen sometime.

I am listening to one of the ringer’s podcasts from Bill Simmons with him discussing the Celtics/Fultz and all that.

Haven’t finished listening to that one, and I haven’t listened to his recent ones, but I think that Simmons could be getting concerned soon.

Simmons might be a guy who has to fall in love with the C’s picks.  All of Boston’s fans might be like that…

I would think about going with Jonathan Isaac.  I really would.

You think that his "baseline" would be Robert Horry meets James Worthy.  Put that guy on a contender, just like Worthy went to the champ Lakers and Horry went to the sneeky stacked Rockets (ok, basically just Hakeem, some tiny guards, the retail end of one of the worst trades EVER, and Matt Bullard).  Worthy has 3 rings, right?  Horry has 7.

You take that.  Isaac might not be THE GUY, but he is A GUY.

Plug him in in different roles.

Then you look ahead to next year.  Could hit two home runs if the Lakers end up in the 2-5 range.  Otherwise, you get the Nets pick which "should" be top 4-6 at least, and highly probably a top 3 pick.  So, you look to get THE GUY next year.  And, you also have your own pick that you can use to get your backup 2 guard of the future in a guy named Grayson Ainge, err, I mean, Allen.

Boston is kinda/sorta in Win Now Mode, but it also looks like they need to do a Mini-Process over at least the next couple of years, that "peaks" next year, and starts to wind down if that 2019 Kings pick conveys to them.  By then, LeBron will be two years older, the Warriors Dynasty is more than likely either PEAKING or backsliding, so that might be the optimal Boston "window" to compete.  Also, gotta get in ahead of any possible juggernaut in Philly and/or Lakervegas.

I load up on high level role players.  Try to get Jordan Bell, too, as a third/fourth big.

You can run a second unit (minus the Win Now Combo of IT and Horford) of Smart, Bradley, Brown, Isaac, and Bell.

Ok, that lineup might not put many points on the board, but neither is the OTHER team.

But, it lets you rest IT, Horford (and Olynyk) for awhile.

You have a bunch of versatile, long, defensive weapons to throw at the Warriors, Cavs, and Spurs (as well as the Wiz).

Bottom line, if Ainge has a list of 2 or 3 guys in his head, and isn’t totally sold/in love with any of them, then it might be time to look at new players… I think that Isaac is the next guy on the consideration list.

Ok, suppose you tell Boston fans that within the next 3 years (from Traitor Danny’s collection of misfit toys) that one of the guy turns into a Horry-Worthy hybrid.  You take that right?  And, it is not a top 2 pick.  Worthy was actually the first pick that year.  Horry was a top 5 or 6 pick.  So, at 3 that would work.  Could be one of the better 3rd picks in NBA history — even if he never approaches Durantian levels on offense.

Can you win a title that trots out a team of one guy who gets you 30 and 8 guys who can get you 10?

Sure, if you can hold the other team below 110 a game…

Its hard to beat Zach Lowes podcast.  But try Locked on NBA for detailed analysis.  Others that are good are NBA Lockdown (ESPN), The Startes (NBA.com), and The Ringer NBA Show.

Not an NBA podcast but anyone who likes sports should listen to Pardon My Take.

2 of the first ones (and really the only ones I listen to) that came to mind when I saw this topic was The Lowe Post and Dunc’d On. I used to listen to the Ringer NBA Show but Chris Vernon is not good/his voice isn’t the best radio voice ever, and I used to be a fan of Simmons but I can’t stand him now. His Boston bias is unbearable, like in the one from today he was going off about Josh Jackson not working out for Boston and basically said he hopes his career tanks. Plus the Ringer’s draft coverage is awful, in their site mock draft they have Dennis Smith Jr. falling to 12. That’s insane

The only other one I can suggest is Mickstape, although it’s not for those looking for some in-depth analysis of stuff. Plus the white guy’s voice is more annoying than Chris Vernon’s so there’s a hurdle or two to get over, but it’s a pretty good one

EDIT: another gripe I had about the BS pod from today, he went off about how the term “combo guard” just means you’re not good enough at either guard position and started laughing, but conveniently didn’t say anything about Avery Bradley

Vernon has a screechy annoying voice.  Don’t care for it… A Grizz homer who is usually wrong.

Ironic how they make fun of "combo guards".  Not just Avery Bradley, you can call IT and Smart combo guards, too.  They also have a "combo forward" in Jae Crowder… it’s Tweener U in Beantown…

I want to see competitive balance — at least at the top.  Can’t really count on more than 4 or 5 legit contenders in any one year.  And, I usually hate "parity" which, to me, just means mediocrity…

Can’t believe this site doesn’t have a podcast… can’t do worse than most of the podcasts.  haha.

Any thing with Brian Windhorst, The Lowe Post, the Kevin Durant episodes of Bill Simmons, and Nate Duncan’s podcast

Sam Vecenie is really good (Game Theory podcast). I still listen to Simmons. Whatever you do, don’t listen to that moron Lowe. He’s terrible. Such a homer.

I’m not well-versed in NBA podcasts, but one that I always listen to is the Road Trippin podcast of RJ. Veeeeeeeeeeeryy funny and that podcasts gets you as close as you can get to an NBA players’ lifestyle.
