What can some one tell me about this Providence team? Specifically LeDontae Henton, is he a true wing or a tweener? I keep following the box scores but haven’t caught a game, but his size, numbers and big games have me very interested. Also fill me in on the other breakout players on this team if you can and what role they will play in the future.

Henton is a tweener who boxes out well and consistent with his 3. He’s left handed and gets a lot of garbage buckets as well. There PG is real good Vincent council great leader

I got my eye on Providence for next year cuz they already got a great recruiting class lead by Ricardo Ledo and IMO might be the front runners to land Nerlans Noel.  Noel and Ledo are really close and have been seen attending Providence games.

    Here’s my take:

Right now I think Henton is a four, he doesnt look that comfortable on the perimeter except when he spots up for three and he lacks the ball handling skills to really penetrate. He can play the three he’s just more effective at the four. Down low he is a beast… he finishes strong in traffic off put backs and dump downs as well as anyone ive seen this year and is an excellent rebounder. His main problem going forward is he will be stuck at the four next year with all the guards and wings coming in and he is a little too small at 6’6” 220 for an NBA PF.

As for the other guys… Council is a great passer but takes some bad shots, Cotton is an excellent shooter and defender but is very small for the two at 6’0”, Coleman can go left and is filthy in transition, Batts has underachieved soooo much this year. No one else really matters.

Ledo and Dunn wont put up the numbers that everyone expects of them next year since Providence still has a loaded back court talent wise but they will help a ton. I see around 8 or 9ppg next year for both of them and possibly a NCAA berth for Providence.

Guys to watch out for… I could see Cotton really thriving playing 25+ mins off the bench next year because he will be much more fresh and wont have to worry about being the back up PG. Deep sleeper… Josh Fortune i’ve been hearing that he has the talent to be a future pro from inside sources. Give him a year or two. A Stat to note is Cotton and Council lead the country, or at least last time I checked, in mins per game at around 38.5.

Wellthey are getting Sidiki Johnson right? He is a PF that could let Henton move to the Three, and IF you get Nerlens they won’t need him downlow.

No when you have Dunn, Council, Gardner, Cotton, Coleman, Fortune and Ledo who are all very talented and you need talented bigs Henton will stay down low with Batts and Johnson and whoever else they get.

Yeah your definitely right providencefriar1, Henton is pretty much a combo forward but leaning toward more of a 4’s skillset. His foot quickness on the perimeter isn’t that great to guard some of the more quicker forwards around, like earlier in the game vs Villanova, Jayvaughn Pinkston pretty much blew by him on every isolation opportunity, and he’s not even a speedster by any means. He’s a tough guy though who bangs out there and isn’t afraid to compete. Every program needs a guy like that. Surprised many with the year he’s having as a freshman…has the potential to be on an all league team as an upperclassman.
