leppyParticipantpeople talk about potential like its the end all be all. all potential means is that the kids physical attributes to be one of the best players in the league. just becuase a kid is phyiscally gifted doesnt mean he will even become a smart basketball player, or have a passion for the game, the work ethic, hand to eye coordination. People need to realize potential is high risk. Players who know the game tend to get passed over by players with "potential"

SwatLakeCityParticipantBBIQ plays a huge part in whether or not a player will reach his full potential. It tells how smart a player is, whether he has passion for the game. That is why I look for both potential and love for the game. If I can’t find both than I choose love for the game. The player may not have high potential, but love for the game often trumps that. Just look at Paul Millsap. (Not much potential, but if the 2006 draft were done over, Millsap would have been drafted in the first round.)

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantMichael Beasley should read this. LOL.. Maybe learning how to rebound from Kevin Love will help him

Mr. 19134ParticipantThe Magic would be kicking themselves right now if they didn’t draft on potential and wound up with Okafor.

esperanzafleet69Participantbeasley was in a bad situation i think in miami.. he’ll be a LOT better on the wolves

Mr. 19134ParticipantWhat do you people think that if a team passed over Dwight Howard to draft Emaka Okafor they wouldn’t be upset? That’s how I feel about Evan Turner being taken Over Dwight Howard.

durantula83ParticipantI’m tired of people sh!tting on Beasley. He’s only been in the league for 2 fuccing seasons. Give the kid a break.

mj23mj23besteverParticipantyea if orlando didnt draft the potential on that one wow but that actually is the exception so many based on potential guys dont make it maybe we could just call this the darko lol cause he supposedly had the potential to be the next big foreign break out player

Toronto16ParticipantSpeaking of Beasley, does he know he is allowed to pass the ball?

NJHooper95ParticipantBeasley will be fine, I think some of you guys are jumping the gun on Beasley, its way too early. Potential is important in most cases, but not all. Charlotte passed on Rudy Gay and took Adam Morrision who is barley in the league now. You can be a great college player but that doesnt mean your pro potential is good. If you didnt draft potential we would have Kobe, Garnett, Howard, and other great players who were not developed as other players but had so much more potential. Yet you still have to have desire and passion to fulfill that potential. You have to consider potential because you cant teach the games and skills, but you cant teach 7 feet you cant teach speed or athleticism. But like I said you have to evaluate wisely based on the choice of players and your team needs.

stanford hoopsthe differemce with howard and okafur is that howard had the drive and worth ethic on top of having potential. you never heard any one question his motor
perry jones and anthony randoplh should read this
with beasley every says hes works hard and watching him you can see he has a high motor so i dont worry about him. he is tremendously skilled offensivly and i see at least 20ppg from his this year and 5-7 rebounds would be perfect from the sf position

stanford hoopswhen you shoot 8-10 you arent suppossed to pass it much just like webster. you pass it more once you start missing youre shots. i doubt a coach is gonna tell a guy whos hot to pass more

Mr. 19134ParticipantBeasley will be atleast top 3 player from that class you will see this year he is a scoring phenom and he can pass better then you think. He made a lot of great back door passes in Miami to cutters.
And some players game are better suited for the NBA and not college. Derrick Favors is going to excel in the pros.

stanford hoopsim still skeptical about favors. i think he can end up being chris wilcox because right now his skill level is low and hes just a athlete but i can see the potential there. another guy who needs to improve his motor
