I think Lebron has 3-4 more years of being the overall best player.  He will be 35 after 4 years.

After 4 years, Steph Curry will only be 31.

    Kevin Durant will be 31.

    Russell Westbrook will be 31

Kawhi Leonard will be 28, playing in SA (which is a plus for the system, a minus for the media attention)

Anthony Davis will be 26 (damn thats scary).  To this point, Anthony Davis has had injury questions and also I dont’ know if he has the Admiral of the ship mentality and makes everyone around him better.

So when the Lebron Era ends, whose league will it be?  Maybe one of the up and comers not mentioned?

    the MJ –> Kobe –> Lebron torch…….

As Lebron gutted it from an aging Kobe, maybe its Curry, maybe its Durant that will surpass him in a year or two.  Or is it Davis in 5 years that establishes himself as the best above Durant and Curry both.

It is already Curry if you look at popularity. Fans all around the country like the way Curry plays and his swagger or whatever it is more than Lebron. So yeah I think Curry takes the torch next

I am going On the Record:  It will NOT be Ben Simmons.  I don’t like his game much after seeing quite a bit of it.

Let the record show, as a Sixers fan, I want them to take Brandon Ingram, and I think ultimately Brandon Ingram will be the better pro.

Putting all my 64 points on the line.

Super funny putting my 64 points on the line…people don’t like you talking about their golden boy ben simmons but honestly if he does not get a jump shot he will not be affective on a star level in the NBA. I like Ingram for the sixers as well.

I would disagree that he has 3-4 more years. Lebron is still in the discussion for best overall player but its definitely a discussion now. You could make a strong argument that guys like curry and Durant have not only caught up, but actually surpassed him at this point and lebron is not getting any younger. Lebron had a remarkable run as the pretty much the undisputed best player in the world ( longer than anybody since Jordan) but those days are over now.

Absolutely agree. There’s a few players that are fighting for that label right now. Lebron might be the best all around if you’re looking for scoring/passing/rebounding/defense but Curry is the most unstoppable scorer I’ve seen since MJ and is also a dynamite passer, and KD is a highly efficient and volume scorer with good rebounding and an improving all around game who can play off the ball better than LBJ and Curry.

As for the OP, I know I’ve been riding him for a while but I have to mention KAT. I think he’ll be in the discussion for best player in the world within 4 years.

when Anthony Davis, and Kawhi will definitely be in their primes,

and Steph and KD will be 31.  You think KAT will be the best player in the league?  I don’t think he has enough of an impact.  He’s a very good player, but I can’t see KAT just taking over games, he’s not dominant enough.

After reading a lot of these posts I am surprised everyone agrees Lebron is declining.  I agree he is declining but I thought he was losing his athleticism.  The guy is still an overall force.

I would have to think Curry will still carry the mantle at 31.  He’s just too skilled.

But AD will be 26 at that point…will he ever get help?  I don’t think he makes everyone better like Steph Curry does.

My gripe with KD was, Steph is doing everything KD does better than KD (who is essentially a perimeter player), and they still have a 4 on the court that is brillaint (Draymond).

I clearly said steph was #2 in the league before this season started.  Obviously, that stands today.  I think Lebron does too much for his teams.  He is the ultimate teammate that raises everyone’s game around him.  I don’t think Steph could’ve taken the Cavs to the finals last year.

I didn’t say the best I said he’ll be in the discussion, I think he’ll be on the shortlist. I’ll admit I’m higher on KAT than most people on these boards and I’ve felt like that for a while. His all-around ability, his size, skill level and defensive potential give him sky high potential .

Keep in mind that KD was in the best player in the league discussion by his 3rd year, Lebron was in the discussion by his second, Duncan by his fourth, Garnett by his fifth, Rose by his third, and AD was getting consideration last season in his third year in the league.

By his fifth year in the league KAT should be entering his prime, if he’s not among the best in the league by then he probably never will be.

As far as endorsements go and money goes it’s still Lebrons league he took it from Kobe a while ago. The question is who’s gonna take it from Bron.

Right now the answer seems simple. Curry. Watch out for Leonard and Durant though. Maybe Westbrook.

..he’s got too many miles on his legs and doesn’t have ‘old man moves’  that kept guys like Jordan and Kobe at the top after their athleticism faded.

There will be plenty of talent and I think it’ll be quite well spread with guys like Davis, George, Leonard, Cousins, Lillard, Wall, Harden, Drummond, Griffin, Butler, Thompson etc all entering their prime.

The league is in good hands as their are still some I have left off along with the current rookies and sophomores coming into their own.

The thing about the MJ –> Kobe –> Lebron thing is, aside from maybe Timmy Duncan and Shaq…there is no doubt that these are the flagships of the NBA, the faces of the NBA, the agreed upon #1 players in the NBA, its amazing how in each sport someone is always best of the best, best in the world….

So who takes it?  It sems to be Steph Curry…are you all surprised?  Before this season started it was undoubtedly Anthony Davis.  Last year there was issue over MVP Harden LBJ or Curry.  Now it seems inevitable its gonna be Curry.

Do you think Joel Embiid in 4 years could surpass the likes of hte guys listed, Porzingis, Wiggins (no shot), for BEST in the GAME.

I don’t think Wiggins is favored to take over the league after Lebron but her certainly has the potential. Especially if him and KAT can put Minnesota on the national stage with some deep playoff runs.

I think Ant Davis or Curry – whoever can stay healthy the longest out of these two….

Right now, the league is in GREAT SHAPE.  But, I think it could be peaking.  Either now or in the next couple of years.

There is the torch and then there is the TORCH.

Steph Curry will grab the torch, if he didn’t already do so.  He is one of those great little scoring guards that when they are really good can be a headliner for the league.  Not just like a Jerry West but also like a Allen Iverson.  I think Steph take the best of West (clutch, winning, pure fundamentals, good public persona), and Iverson (fancy, will take on ANYBODY, kids love him).

But, a guy who can carry the TORCH?  The one that Magic and Bird had?  The one that Jordan took?  The one that Shaq-Kobe-LeBron took turns taking?

    I don’t see it…

Porzingas looks good.  A Knick.  His upside could be a poor man’s 7’3 Larry Bird.  At least that is what the league’s marketing big wigs can hope for…

Ben Simmons: Going to the Lakers would help.  Going to some obscure team won’t help as much.

Hey, I think PURE TALENT wise and energy wise, Russell Westbrook is the best guy out there.

So, I think you have the rivalry be Steph vs. Russ.  Steph is the league’s front man and Russ is the league’s Anti-Hero.

I don’t see Anthony Davis being THE GUY.  I don’t see Kawhi being THE GUY either.  Duncan wasn’t THE GUY.  Neither was David Robinson.  And those guys were FANTASTIC.  A little too unassuming.  A little too small market.

The league better hope that the current batch of superstars hangs on for as long as possible.

but Lebron just took the league by storm.

Right now its def Steph.  He is the player the camera focuses on, he has his little tongue out/headband thing going on iwth the mouthpiece.  He’s a very good looking guy.  AND, he has amazing shooting and his handle is the best in the league, along with vision.  His handle is way better than Kyrie, who does and1 stuff on the court.  Steph dribbles in and out of trouble, he’s amazing.

He’s the guy, he already has a ring.  I just hope he stays healthy, and I guess this question also implies being in contention because all of the guys listed have multiple rings.  Steph already has 1.

I think he’s going to get at least 3 the way his team is playing if they keep everyone together.

I HOPE the Spurs get the chip this year just because I love Timmy and Kawhi.

But I also really like Steph.  I hope he gets at least 3, and more than Lebron.

Cavs need to make a deal man.  Gotta get rid of Love and bring in a real 3 and D guy.  Maybe they can trade Love for Bledsoe and Warren/Morris.

A quick follow-up on my own response: after this year’s NBA season, the final year for Kobe, the final All Star Game for Kobe, what SHOULD BE an EPIC Western Conference Finals, a great Finals which will probably feature a LeBron rivalry matchup (either Warriors or Spurs), THEN watching TEAM RIO which should be ABSOLUTELY LOADED go after the gold, I think this could be the PEAK for awhile.

LeBron isn’t getting younger.  Steph and Russ and KD aren’t really "young" either.  Kobe is calling it quits and Dirk, KG, and some others are probably on their last legs, too.

We really need to see some good rookie classes.

Porzingas is a bright spot.  Jabari Parker (so far) is not.  Wiggins is a great dunker and a good young player — that helps.  Towns and Okafor should be a decent minor rivalry at worst.

Gotta hope that this draft really nails it.  With not only Simmons and Ingram, but also Kris Dunn, Buddy Hield, the Kentucky kids, and even the legacies like Sabonis and Gary Payton II.

If I were running the league, I think I MIGHT try to help bring back the bigs.  Use Porzingas for all he’s got.  Help Okafor.  Andre Drummond is a special player.  Flawed, but a guy who can do lots of damage.  There are some pretty skilled young bigs out there.  I would help these guys out marketing wise.  Holding out hope that Tacko Fall at the very least turns into an NBA cult hero.

This would be even MORE important if another wing player like Dr. J, or Bird, or Jordan, or Kobe, or LeBron, or even Durant comes around soon.  Kawhi, Jimmy Butler, and Klay Thompson are GOOD but not on that level.

The league is in good shape, and will be fun to watch as far as I can see, BUT it is peaking.
