I really feel that if its possible for this team to stay healthy they will be in championship contention next season. if both pryzbilla and oden can stay somewhat healthy and at least be active for the playoffs i think they have one of the best and deepest teams in the league.if they could pick up damion james with the 22nd pick they are a team with no holes. their roster would look something like this

    1.Andre Miller/ Jared Bayless
    2.Brandon Roy/ Rudy Fernandez
    3. Nicholas Batum/ Martell Webster/ Damion James
    4. Lamarcus Aldridge/ Marcus Camby/
    5. Greg Oden/ Joel Pryzbilla

That team is so deep and versatile! especially if they could get sherron collins with their second rounder and get juwan howard to come back for one more year. plus the team is well coached and plays with alot of heart. i could see them being the 2011 champions possibly.

I thought they were going to contend this year and if Oden had stayed healthy I think they definitely would have made the conf. finals, seeing as they won just 7 less games than the Lakers with Oden Missing 61 games and Roy missed 17. How that team played so well in light of those injuries is a miracle, Nate McMillan really is a genius. If Roy and Oden can stay healthy, and Batum and Bayless continue to develop, that’s a really dangerous team, AND they had the lowest payroll in the league this year!

I think it’s going to be real tough to win a championship if you don’t have Wade, Kobe, LeBron, Durant, or Dwight Howard. The only exception is if you have a big 3 type nucleus like the Celtics do, and they even have a fourth stud. I just don’t know if Roy is quite the superstar to lead the team to a title. If Oden is a 18-12-3 guy next year, then maybe they have a chance because they can matchup with the Lakers size.

I’d be hoping Larry Sanders slips if not id take Alabi. If neither of them then a Terico white, Elliot Williams, or Willie Warren at 22. Then pick up Brackins if he drops or jerome jordan.

Then you’d have insurance for GO and another young gaurd to come off the bench and play off Roy or give him a breather.

You forgot to add Carmelo to that list we were a couple of inbound passes away from going to the Finals and we would of beat Orlando

they gave camby a 2 year extension, so they have even more depth up front and on defense, and more experience

what is even more amazing is that they had one of the lowest salary caps this season, if not the lowest

Portland looks good on paper but they need to make moves to improve chemistry. Also they need to let Rudy go. He could be a starter on most teams.

too bad the team front office is messed up. I don’t understand why they want to fire KP.

They are contenders already they just gotta stay healthy, they have a balanced starting lineup and a deep, consistent bench. As long as they stay healthy I think they can give any team in the Western Conference a hard time, heck they even took the Suns 6 games with Roy not even fully healthy and the Suns made it to the conference finals. They have a good amount of young players too though, it is all a matter of how healthy they can be.

The Blazers have enough depth to get through the regular season and get a good seed in the playoffs, BUT… Whether or not they win a championship in the next few years depends on the health/improvement of Greg Oden.

Right now… It’s not looking good. He STILL hasn’t been cleared for all basketball activities and he’s picked up some weight. This is probably the most important summer of Oden’s NBA career thus far.

They could do very well … if they stay healthy. They do not need a top 5 player, as they have a top ten who can create for others (Roy), and a few very good pieces around him. Thay could be a lot like the Pistons the year they won.
I have heard that their wings are good defenders, and they can lock the post down defensively.

All this being said, Bayless is going to take another year before he can make up for his dissapointing first year. Oden could need a full year of playing injury free before he can be the beast they need him to be.

The teams in championship contention are going to change in the next two or three years and OKC and Portland will be battling for that top spot in the West. As of now (if Oden gets healthy) I think that Portland will hold the inside edge. If Bayless and Batum can slow Westbrook and Durant they will have a chance.

OKC does have the edge (Westbrook, Durant, and the bench), because their young stars will be even better (barring injury).

The wildcard in the matchup is Oden. If he can overcome injury and become an interior force, they will have the advantage down low, allowing Aldridge to do what he does (stay out of the low post).

Greg Oden is the guy that needs to keep it healthy… He’s been a liability by not being able to remain strong… Whether or not he makes an impact on the offensive end, it’s the defensive end that makes him the most reliable threat out there… Luckily, Marcus Camby was signed an extension which I would say, a very smart move for them just to make sure that they have a "back-up" plan in case GO remains in the sideline…

The Blazers are deep… Way deep… Deep enough to contend for a championship in the next couple of seasons provided that GO remains healthy…
