lisergxParticipantWho is the better coach Gregg Popovich or Phil Jackson? Both have multiple titles and coached some of the greatest of all time. Who would you want to coach your team?

ReekoParticipantIn terms of legacy, Phil Jackson is arguably the greatest coach of all time. However, in terms of who I’d rather have coaching my team it would be Popovich. For all his Zen philosophy, Jackson still seems to have a considerable ego. There’s always a bit of drama surrounding Phil, as he has taken to writing books and calling out former players. I love that Pop stays out of the limelight and just focuses on his career as a coach. Also, the thing that I respect most about Popovich is the extreme loyalty he seems to receive from his players especially Tim Duncan, all of those guys leave it all out there on the court because Pop demands it. They respect Pop the way soldiers respect a great general.

llperezBoth great. Both very respected by their players. Biggest advantage for Phil is his ability to control the biggest of egos. Pop is more likely to say do it my way or leave town. Phil finds a way to make the rodmans, jordans, shaqs and kobes mesh and get it done regardless of if they got along. Plus Phil went 4-1 vs pop in the playoffs.

frogmanParticipantThe best thing about Pop is that he changes his coaching style dependent on who is on the roster. They have changed from a slow half-court post-up team when Duncan was in his prime to a quicker fast break team now that he has athletic, spot shooting wings. Some coaches cannot for the life of them change the way their teams play as they only have one philosophy

Afactor4ParticipantIf I wasn’t a super-GM or a generous luxury owner capable of building the best team in the NBA year after year, I’d take Pop.
