I was looking at some numbers from the past, in this case the efficiency (according to nba.com). Although it is not the best metric, I was curious to see which players were top 5 in the past 25 years. It turned out that Karl Malone was top 5 in efficiency in 12 consecutive years, wow! Complete list of the number of times a player was top 5 in efficiency over season below, starting at 1980-1981 until this season.

    K. Malone (12)
    Jordan (10)
    Barkley (10)
    Olajuwon (10)
    O’Neal (9)
    Garnett (9)
    James (9)
    Bird (8)
    Johnson (7)
    Robinson (7)
    Duncan (7)
    Bryant (6)
    Webber (5)
    Nowitzki (5)
    M. Malone (4)
    Dantley (4)
    Howard (4)
    Ewing (3)
    Paul (3)
    Durant (3)
    English (2)
    Brand (2)
    Stoudemire (2)
    Marion (2)
    P. Gasol (2)
    Love (2)
    Lee (2)
    Erving (1)
    Abdul-Jabbar (1)
    McHale (1)
    Cummings (1)
    Ruland (1)
    Vandeweghe (1)
    Thomas (1)
    Drexler (1)
    Hill (1)
    Kidd (1)
    McGrady (1)
    Wade (1)
    Bosh (1)
    Boozer (1)
    Griffin (1)
    Harden (1)

(Seeing James at 9 top 5’s in efficiency is mind-blowing as well)

Amazing that Lebron has 9 years at the age of 28!

Wonder what that list would look like going back to the 60s using basketball reference for PER
