Perry Jones has out of this world potential and I have been looking at videos for him the past 2 days if he play with half of skills he will be a solid pro this guy handles the ball great has a decent jumper and i think he can be the tracy mcgrady 2.0 he even looks like him but he sometimes half the tendacy to be lazy in games and not take over which he is more than capable of doing.

Do you think he will reach his potential?
Is he good as advertised?
Is he sf or pf in the nba?

He reminds me of Rudy Gay but with 2 more inches of height. He’s not going to be an All-American next year, and he’s not nearly as good RIGHT NOW as some people say. I’ve seen people say they “have never seen a player like Jones before” as if he’s going to be the best player ever or something, but he’s not all that. He’s got special talent, but he sometimes is a little soft and reserved. I’ve watched some of him over the past year and I think he needs polish and intensity. He has the overall potential to be the leading scorer in the NBA, but I very seriously doubt he’ll reach that level.

I see him being a 12 ppg scorer who gets you 6 rpg, around 2 bpg and a steal as a Freshman at Baylor. He’ll play both forward spots at Baylor, but he’s more of a natural SF to me especially at the NBA level.

Perry Jones looks really good…in highlights. From what I have read about him, he seems to be too passive though. His high school team does not have a good record and he hasn’t been leading his team to victories. The T-Mac comparison maybe pretty accurate as he got the talent, but not sure if he has the will and the heart.

He probably has the highest upside among all players in the 2011 draft, but it is hard to say if he will ever reach his high ceiling.

I would like to see what he can do at Baylor before making a serious judgment. I think he said he tried to model his game after Kevin Durant, so let’s see if he has the work ethic to be on that level.

When both Durant and Thad Young went to college, I think Thad Young got more hype and was ranked higher than Durant at some point as Thad Young had a few great showings for team USA. Durant really worked hard the summer before he went to college and became one of the best college players of all time. Perry Jones has the potential to do the same if he puts in the hard works.

Trust me, Perry Jones may have all the potential in the world, but he doesn’t show much on the court, he had a horrible senior season at HS, Horrible. He will get picked in the top 10 no matter what next year, just because of his potential though. He’s one of those high risk high reward type guys imo.
And I think he’ll play a little Center next year also, but he might get pushed around in the paint a little to much.

This guy on paper is the best player in the whole 2010 class but just does not bring it against comparable talent. He is so big and skilled with real bounce. Has NBA superstar tools but needs to be assertive. He is every bit as skilled as Harrison Barnes but 6’11 230. If he doesn’t live up to the potential he would be the biggest bust i would had ever seen. He could be Johnathan Bender or Kevin Durant , it’s up to him?

Yeah i hope he dont end up like jonathna bender with his skills he should average at the least 20ppg 8rpg in college but he probably wont his averages probably be like 13ppg 7rpg but he still going top 5 in the draft no matter what he has to much potential to play the way he does sometimes. but you only get by on potential for so long.

Looks like he can do a bit of everything. Being 6’10 and that skilled is very rare.

Do you think he will reach his potential? I’ve heard about him being lazy, if he or a coach can knock that out of him, he could be a very scary player.

Is he good as advertised? Hard to tell, just basing him off a highlight video where his opposition are highschoolers, he can pretty much steamroll any HS forward due to his skillset and being a superior athlete. Let’s see how he performs against better competition at Baylor and the NBA until then, he’s just another talented kid as far as i’m concerned.

Is he sf or pf in the nba? I think he’ll start out at SF and eventually move to the 4 unless the team that picks him likes to play a run and gun style then he could be playing PF from the get go. It really depends on how his natural growth turns out really.

He would be difficult to guard, he would be too tall and strong for a SF and too quick and skilled for a PF.

He’s not the competitor he is, and never will be.
Just because he is long and lanky doesn’t mean he is Kevin Durant.

There are plenty of guys who are gonna be super lanky in the up and coming years

I don’t know I think the best comparison is Rashard Lewis although Perry has potential to be an even better pro just based on his superior physical gifts.

Randolph has bulked up, but does he not remind you of a maybe slightly more athletic/less physical version. I mean, Randolph can drive and put the ball on the floor, though I think Perry has more athleticism and may be quicker. But I think Jorye is right on line with his expectations for next year. He has tons of potential, and I think in some tournaments he played quite well, but he seems very inconsistent. I know he averaged 13.6 and 9.2 last year in HS, and those numbers do not really impress. It seems like he needs to be much more assertive and maybe get better at playing off of the ball. Kevin Durant played all 5 positions in college and was handed the keys to the team, and delivered big time. Jones has a bunch of other solid players at Baylor already, and no doubt LaceDarius Dunn will still be first option. He is obviously a great prospect, and his ceiling is super high, I would say even higher than Randolph seeing them at the same age, but like Randolph, he at this point just seems to be more potential than anything resembling a day-in day-out star.

Wreckless- Kuran actually has the potential to be Durant-like..his jumper is so pretty and so effective and he’s only gonna be a sophomore…reminds me of when Laquinton Ross was a sophomore, now Ross is being scouted as a face up 4 man at 6’8 210, when he was reportedly a SG before that.

The likely hood of Perry Jones reaching his potential are slim to none. Only a handful of guys ever reach their true maximum potential, and Perry shows no desire to do that from what i see. His HS had him playing C, so he was out of position i guess. Even then, he should have used this time to work on his low post game on offense and defense.

You see a HIGHLIGHTS video. Truth is Jones had several awful outings in HS, not managing to dominate aginst opponents several inches smaller. Now he’s very impressive with his set of skills, his physical and athletic assets, and his versatility. He coule be a mix between McGrady and Garnett if he gains consistency

He reminds me of Jonathon Bender. Long, can make some amazing highlights and an amazing leaper for the size. Hard to say how good Bender would have been without injuries, so it isn’t really a knock on Jones. He doesnt have that killer instinct and you can’t teach that, So I would say Rudy Gay is his cieling and Dorrell Wright is his floor.

Jones is my favorite player in this class and I think he could be an amazing player at either the 3 or the 4. I think he will be best at the 3 because of his slashing ability, his athleticism, and the fact that he can really handle the ball all while being 6′ 11″. Because he still is a little rough and has a tendency to be unaggressive he is going to need to put the effort in to become an elite level player but the raw tools are definitely there. I’m really excited to see what he is capable of at Baylor next year.

Knew I saw it somewhere, I am not crazy. I believe MaxPreps, they are pretty up to date with that kind of thing, and when I looked up otherwise, the only confirmation I got was from a post on here that said he averaged 15 and 11 or so from March. I could be wrong, I do not know his exact statistics, but if you find a better source to back it up, than I am all ears.

He isn’t as skilled as barnes as someone said. And he’s much more comparable to johnathan bende then anyone else. He doesn’t or didn’t play sf in hs as fluidly as he did on. That crappy aau. In which he really didn’t play sf there either. He has no prob looking like a sf against other pf or c but the problems start when he is being guarded by a sf who is used to checking sf. Tmac in hs could play sg and sf. Same with gay Perry can’t. Be prepared to see a kid who you always say “shouldn’t he be doing more”
