JamesPG5FowlerParticipantIm going out and saying this now….. Perry Jones will be the next Tracy McGrady, he is just 3 inches taller then T-Mac, but has the same kinda skill set. Look him up if you haven’t seen him play. He even looks like him, same body structure in high school. Its kinda crazy, like a clone but just 3 inches taller. He will be a monster next year at Baylor.

gregoden08ParticipantHere we go again…Seen him play numerous times. He was unimpressive in all of them. He has a great amount of upside, but he is still very raw. I really don’t think he has the killer instinct to be Tracy McGrady. I project him as a combo forward…Anthony Randolph type player.
Let’s not forget, T-Mac averaged 30+ ppg one season and was one of the best scorers in the league before injuries came along.

sheltwon3ParticipantLet’s not forget that T Mac started off slow in the League and he was like his 3rd or 4th year where he took off but he showed promise in his 2nd and 3rd years as a robin to Carter’s batman

sheltwon3ParticipantI will say this if Perry works on his game he can be more like Durant because to me Durant is like a tall T Mac. It is funny how people have Durant as being 6’9″ when he measure over that without shoes and is closer to 6’11” I think he is 6’11” and some change now with shoes.

QUINCEYyeah but that was in the leauge..perry looks unimpressive at times in highschool. hes not as good at the same stage…not even close. he has potential but he’s not ready to be a three yet. he cantake it coast to coast sometimes with no hard pressure but he has alot of trouble with pressure and a harder time in half court or in a system. alot of people who watch the youtube clips only see apart of it. once you watch a whole game then you understand what im talking about

sheltwon3ParticipantAint it funny how Durant was terible at defense his first two year but because he was a great scorer and played for a young team he got opportunity to play through mistakes and grow but this is not happening with Beasley yet people think he is a bum because his coach does not play him through mistakes. This has nothing to do with this post but it is interesting. Also Randolph is on the wrong team. Sometimes the team can be the different in a player looking good and developing versus not. Portland has been good at developing players yet they dont know how to stay healthy. Every one of their young player tend to be great of good over time. They have trouble building a complete team though. Some teams like GSW have trouble developing players and need ready made players

QUINCEYbut if he works on those things(like i expect he will) he will have a very good year and be a top 3 pick off of that but mostly potential
0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/13/2010 - 8:43am #265596
QUINCEYhe’s also no where near durant. right now he is a pf that can lay some three when not pressured or in a aau setting/open court. not the hardest of workers either and tends to disappear during games. jumper is far from consistant as well. could become alot like josh smith with better handles and a lil better jumper

JNixonParticipantBaylor may be a Final 4 team next year…..They are going to have a big time roster. Perry Jones and Anthony Jones are both 6’10” wing players with good scoring potential, they return LaceDarius Dunn, who’s one of the more crafty scorers in the nation and the athletic freak show that is Quincey Acy. George Walton should develop into a decent starting PG and if Ekpe Udoh returns……..They will be a scary, scary team.
Also, I’ve seen Jones twice and I thought he had some decent skills. He’s more Lamar Odom than Kevin Durant though. He’s not quite the scorer Durant is/was, and he doesn’t pick his spots or have the basketball IQ Durant does. He’s also a poor defender, much worse than Durant is or ever was. He does have some scoring punch though and should be a 15 ppg scorer as a freshman. He’s got a nice and indefensible jump shot with good handles…

QUINCEYi agree except the 15ppg as a freshman but thats becau7se baylor will be bringing back so many good players

BasterdInABasketParticipantIf dunn and udoh return they have to be the favorite in the big 12 and a championship contender. Jones isnt going to have the impact durant and beasley had as freshmen because of the teams talent but hell end up right where kd and beasy were as a top 3 draft pick next year.
Comparing jones to odom an insult though. They both have ridiculous length but jones has way more skill and potential and will be a nightmare to match up with on the wing.0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/13/2010 - 10:15am #265608
LeroyJenkinsParticipantafter this freshman class(im lookin at you john henson) i dont believe the hype about anybody anymore until they set foot on a college court

QUINCEYinsult?…you must not have watched jones play in actual games and just watched his highlight clip…hes actually not as good as odom was at the same level. handles not as good or his jumper.. hes a better athlete though at the same stage

QUINCEYits actually more of an insult towards odom. maybe you are to young to remember him in hs but odom was a monster. he literally played the 1-5 against better comp then jones class. and he was the concensues number 1 or 2 player. while leading his team to a top 5 national ranking and doing work at every camp he went to. jones has had a couple of games where he drops 9,6,5 point. he puts up a respectable 17ppg and 10 reb but his team isnt very good and they arent playing top notch teams. he’s also had a couple of camps this past summer where he struggled alot. at the same stage its not close
0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/13/2010 - 10:59am #265615
QUINCEYas far as mcgrady at the same stage its even further from being close. tmac was a straight MONSTER. every single game. we played in a couple of tournaments with mt zion and against them in a scrimmage. tmac could also play every position and shoot but had dumb bounce. he ended up being the top ranked player that year and odom number 2 if im not mistaken. a bad game for tmac would be jones averages. and mt zions schedule was national

MkadozaParticipantThank you Quincey. Lamar Odom and TMac at the same stage was far beyond Jones at this point. They, while being raw in terms of what they could become, they were way more effective. They were superior athletes and defenders, had a better scoring acumen, and could handle the rock just as good. Not to mention both of them were and are better passers.
Milwalkee, you think Jones has more skill than Odom???? Odom could have easily been the top pick in the draft (most people though he should have been) and Odom’s current career averages of 15-9-and 4 are way behind what people thought he could do. One scout said he would be better than Garnett (O_O), and has already proven to be one of the best rebounders in the league. Perry Jones has nothing but Youtube hype and natural tools, but natural tools do not an NBA all-star make. Jones has a lot of development to do to be anywhere near as good as some people think he is already.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI’m iffy on Jones.
He is Mr. Inconsistent. He can have a 20-12 game then settle for 8 points.
I think he will be similar to Anthony Randolph. He will have flashes but it will take time till he becomes a great player.

Im Your FatherParticipantHow is his jumpshot, does he have legit range? And how is his ball handling? I’m hearing mixed things about his handles. As for his comparison to Randolph, isn’t he more perimeter oriented?

JNixonParticipantHe’s got a nice shot. He’s actually very similar to Gerald Green if you think about it.
He’s a pretty good shooter and has NBA range. Good accuracy and touch.
Has a good handle for his size. Some good moves, even though it’s not a tight handle because he’s so tall and long. He’ll be able to create for himself off the bounce with effectiveness.

Perry Jones Stats:
15.8ppg
11.3rpg

the first one is just dunks,
but shows some highlights of his ball handling and shooting
i would watch the other ones to see his skills better
hes a great ball handler, runs the floor well,
has a good range on his jumpshot, but still improvable
not that dominant, good unselfish passer
not yet at the level t-mac or Durant was at high school
Currently plays the Center and Power Forward position in high school,
when he becomes a better perimeter shooter, he will play the 3

Same mold =/

scoutguruParticipantI’m curious to see this guy play too. Lets just hope he’s more of Anthony Randolph than he is John Henson. Let’s see what he can do in college first before we call him the next T-Mac. If he’s T-Mac at the same stage of their careers he should dominate Division I basketball. But we’ll see, cause in this one and done era, you gotta prove you can play it this level, college isn’t a cake walk (see BJ Mullens).

QUINCEYhe doesnt haave nba range iggy..hitting one nba 3 out of 20 doesnt make someone have range
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/18/2010 - 2:58pm #267360
JNixonParticipantThat’s all he was shooting in the game I watched. He stood there and shot spot-up 3’s the whole game. He made a decent amount of them too. Doesn’t really matter either way. A 3 is a 3 from college range or NBA range right now and when he plays in college..
0 - Posted on: Thu, 03/18/2010 - 3:43pm #267372
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantJones could be a potential good player. He could be a BUST.

QUINCEYyeah but you judge a guys three point shooting by a season not a game. lebron had a hs game where he had almost 10 threes. didnt make him a 3 point shooter it just showed he got hot that game. the other games ive seen perry he made one and missed 7. 3 of which werent even close and 1 was blocked by that 6’7 all american jr who punished him and locked him down

QUINCEYim sure it doesnt but he doesnt have consistant college or hs 3point range. anyone who has watched a coupel of his games will tell you that
0 - Posted on: Fri, 03/19/2010 - 10:49am #267655
QUINCEYright now his range from out there is alot like landon milbourne…yeah he can hit some wide open ones once out of 3 times but you arent gonna run plays for him out there and he isnt a threat to hit it with defense on him at this point. eventually he will be able to but right now he doesnt
