Alot of Tayshuan Prince comparisons but Porter has an all around game reminiscent of the great Scottie Pippen. Not saying he will get to Scottie Pippen level as that’s a tall task but both were point guards who had 6-7 inch growth spurts so retain their ball handling and passing ability.

Prince is more of a specialist, 4th or 5th cog on a team. Porter like Pippen, Dwayne Wade and Kobe has the ability to be one of the best complementary players.

Porter has some potential… but to throw names around like Pippen, Kobe, and Wade is not only unfair to Porter, but it’s down right disrespectful to those players. Obviously Kobe skipped college, but I can’t imagine he would have disappeared in the biggest game of his life against Florida Gulf Coast. And D-Wade was too busy carrying Marquette to the final 4 to think about letting his team lose to a 15-seed. Porter has some talent but scale down your comparison.

LOL at disrecpectfull. Just saying he’s a complementary type player like Wade, Kobe and Pippen. In other words you still need that franchise player like Shaq or Lebron or MJ to do well. Wade hasn’t done squat without Shaq or Lebron who are considered the two greatest players in the game.

thats still giving way too much respect for porter…. go watch some film of him and please explain your reasoning behind this. he seriously plays EXACTLY like tayshaun prince, down to the jumpshot style. and while thats not bad.. hes not ever going to be a second option on any team.

people really dont understand how bad this draft is…

I guess its not as fun to be completely realistic about this draft.Personnally ive watched college basketball since 1999,and I wouldnt be surprised if the 2000 draft ends up being better…and back then plenty of people were hyping up those players too.Honestly I hope not, there are a few prospects that ive really enjoyed watching such as oladipo and Burke to name 2 ,but I wouldnt be surprised.

Kobe isn’t a complimentary player. He has 5 rings… 2 without Shaq. You’re an idiot. He’s not Robert Horry.

I like the Pippen comparison in that I think a lot of their skills are similar coming out of college. Definitely not saying I expect Porter to end up as good or better than Scottie Pippen by the end of his career. I do see the attributes that they share where they could compliment a superstar with all of the little things they do to win games. Both players showed in college that they could move well without the ball, pass, rebound, set good screens and get open off of screens, get deflections and steals, and block shots. Both were still raw in a lot of areas after leaving college, both have very long wingspans for small forwards, both had great work ethics. Both players were very cerebral athletes and allow the game to come to them. Neither player needs the ball to have a big impact on the game.

The differences are that Pippen was unbelievably gifted athletically but Porter is no poor athlete by any means. Pippen also improved so much over the course of his career, it remains to be seen if Porter will dedicate himself to that sort of level but Porter by all accounts has a tremendous work ethic and already improved by leaps and bounds after his freshman year. He needs to get in the weight room and I think that will help add more explosion to his game.

I don’t see Otto ever being an elite defender like Scottie was. Otto just doesn’t have the lateral quickness to be that type of defender IMO. Not to say Otto can’t be a very solid defender, but like the last comment stated Scottie was in a different league athletically than Otto.

Otto does not have a the athleticism to ever touch scottie, I understand from a length statement but what made scottie such a good all round player was is combination of length and athleticism. I can kind of see otto being either a tayshaun prince or a luol deng type player due to those players lengths and skills, but both lack good athleticism

I don’t know about that. otto porter is no where near the athlete pippen was, and his passing is not anywhere near as good. also pippen was an elite defender which otto is not. pippen was a superstar, he just happened to play on the same team as the greatest player ever. also shaq never would have won an nba in la without kobe.

Maybe if you learned to write in english (instead of jibberish) people might understand what you are trying to communicate.

I actually have compared him to the young, raw, unknown Pippen coming out of college not the HOF Scottie Pippen who got better through practicing with MJ.

Pippen’s scouting report was that he could do a bit of everything but was never super dominant at Central Arkansas.

Will Porter develop like Pippen ? No and would Pippen ever had developed if he didn’t have MJ ? No

I think Pippen is better defensively but you could compare Porter to the raw Pippen straight of colllege, not the HOF Pippen….
