There’s a great deal of uncertainty and caution surrounding Kentucky center Daniel Orton, who has cancelled several workouts in the final days before the draft, but has tentatively planned a visit with Indiana on Tuesday.

League executives say Orton has been out of shape and struggling with knee issues during the predraft process. Orton, a 6-foot-10 freshman, had planned to hire agent Raymond Brothers, but sources said an internal family struggle over control has kept him without formal representation. With so much uncertainty surrounding Orton, he could face a steep drop Thursday night.

Orton has been working out with former NBA coach Bob Hill. As one Eastern Conference executive said Monday, “There are too many red flags right now.”

this kid is a bust….It’s funny how being tall and killing it in High School can get you drafted….
NO ONE I REPEAT NO ONE SHOULD TAKE THIS GUY IN THE 1ST…He should go un drafted and earn his way into the League…Potential is another word for not good right now…With bad knees and no production to justify this guy getting pick…I say all 30 teams leave him alone…I think it would send a message to PuNks thinking they sneak into the NBA by going to BIG College and warming the bench for the Team’s star players….John Bryant deserves a spot over Orton….

If hes cancelling workouts, then he must have a guarantee……or an injury

But ever since the day he declared hes been one of my candidates for a freefall, I don’t think hes proved enough, and there were rumors that he was having disappointing workouts, I wouldn’t be surprised if picks 29, 30, 31, pass and Orton is still on the board…

I think the kid is smart. He knows he may have a recurring injury problem so he enters the draft when league executives scout him and give him some good news. He stays within himself plays 3 minutes a game giving hard fould and staying poise, worksout with the Drafts best C and the best C outside of the L,

I still do not know how anyplayer who plays 3 minutes oer game his freshman year could be drafted in the 1st round.Im very igh on Orton as well not hating, I thought he could be a Top 10 player in next years draft especially being the only true Cente. in the Drafts early stages.Leaving Kentucky will definitely make him less money in the long run. His ceiling drastically fell as a result of leaving.

I think Orton is underrated. He has the NBA body and just needs time to develop. I think he could be a very solid starter in the NBA.

Kendrick Perkins and Brandan Haywood come to mindd.

How can Orton be underrated??? He was a bench warmer in college and barely played yet people have him going in the first round… He would have to be scoring 20 ppg or blocking 5 shots during those 10 minutes of playing time for him to be underrated.

lol, Orton is the most overrated prospect in this class, how could you see him as underrated? But I guess I could find all that much in his 13 minutes a game

i don’t believe orton’s stock is dropping; just like i don’t believe the nets would draft wesley johnson over both favors and cousins.

orton has a guarantee from okc. he outplayed whiteside in one-on-one workouts. sam presci knows all about him from when orton played high school in oklahoma. you guys act like a late 1st round pick is going to do some awesome things and if he doesn’t, he’s going to be a bust. half the guys don’t pan out in the league.

    Daniel Orton is a joke.

He has proven nothing at all. 3 ppg and 3 rpg isn’t enough to justify declaring for the draft. For what? A rookie deal? He’s going to be a mid/late 1st rounder (for whatever reason) and get paid like 1 mil a season for either 2 or 3 years. If he stayed in college he would get better, have draft worthy production, and would be a better NBA player. The 2nd and 3rd contracts are where the real money is, and him developing in college would make him a better play, which vicariously would get him paid more in his 2nd contract.

I could be very wrong and he could do something in his 2nd or 3rd seasons that get him a big bloated contract, but I’d be surprised and I’d be the 1st to admit I was wrong. He seems like Kwame Brown or Erick Dampier to me, but Dampier got a ridiculous deal too so maybe Orton’s on to something LOL

i see some brenden haywood, haywood just seems a little bigger. this happens almost every year where teams that r undersized draft big and there arent any big guys out of the top 15 with as much potential as orton could have. i would say any pick outside the top 20 has question marks so why not take a big defensive presence. i mean some people say he is kwame brown, but kwame is only bad because he was drafted 1st, if kwame was picked at 20 or later he would be considered a solid player, dont forget he has had a 9 year career and will be playing alot more. if i can maybe get 10 to 15 years od solid post defense, a good rebounder and shot blocker at 20 or later, ill be happy.

He played behind Cousins and Patterson, that’s why he didn’t play much, and when he did play he wasn’t needed to score because Wall,Bledsoe,Cousins, or Patterson were all scorers. Calipari put him in to play defense and toughness, he rarely shot the ball.

If you watched him in high school you can clearly see his post skills, he has a nice jumper out to 18ft. and he is a really good dribble in transition. If he is picked late 1st he won’t be a bust since not that much is expected from him, and how can you doubt a guy to enter the draft when he’ll be making a guarenteed 5 mil at least.
