The NBA regular season is finally here!

Boston vs Miami… The old Big Three vs the new Big Three

Lakers vs Rockets… Lakers open up their title defense hobbled while Yao returns for the Rockets

Blazers vs Suns… Blazers thinking playoff revenge vs the Stoudemireless Suns

Who are your opening night picks AND why?

Miami over Boston: This is a tough pick, but I do not think LeBron, Wade (hopefully) and Co. will let them lose their first game. LeBron got beat by the Celts last year in Game 1 and of course in the play-offs, he will have something to prove. I would not be surprised if he goes for 40.

Rockets over Lakers: I say the Lakers take an early L this season, not that they will have too many. I am still guessing the Lakers are close to a 60 win team, but the Rockets always play well against them, and Yao Ming’s last NBA game that counted was against this same team, and he more than held his own. Aaron Brooks also gives them fits, Blake and Fisher can not keep up with him. Does Kobe shake off the rust from his knee injury to bring them back? Well, even if he does, it might not be enough, so my upset pick is the Rockets.

Blazers over Suns: Well, I may be biased, as I love the Blazers, but I also think they are a flat out better team than the Suns. With a much healthier bunch than what faced Phoenix last year in the play-offs, plus no sign of Amare Stoudemire to pound them inside, I see the Blazers winning this game. The Suns will have a very new style going on, and ultimately I do not think even switching Grant Hill onto Andre Miller will help them as Brandon Roy has had plenty of time to rest from surgery. LaMarcus Aldridge can really be the key here and should try to use his size to kill Phoenix in the post, but lord knows if he will. Still, I am saying the Blazers still don’t like Turkoglu, don’t like what happened last year and are ready for this game. Nicolas Batum hopefully really steps up here too and puts on a show, as similar as he is to Pippen, he should takes notes from Grant Hill as well, and I think he has been.

and the Rockets and Blazers open up 1 and 0…The Suns may have a rough season and Drafting Kyrie Irving or Brandon Knight is in their future…

I honestly can’t see the Heat being that great with that bench…If Wade,Bronor Bosh go down(very likely) they may struggle more than people expect them to…I don’t see them challenging the Bulls 72 wins…not with that cast of role players…

Or does he become an RFA…I have an eye on the situation as a Sixer fan…I’d love to sign Oden in Philly and Draft Jared Sullinger(if we suck and get a top 5 pick)

I’d honestly trade you guys Iggy for Oden and Batum…maybe even that draft pick you got from NO or Your Draft Pick(likely in the mid 20’s)  would that be fair…Oden and his injury woes, Batum and his Raw ability and a Pick in the 20’s for an all around player in Iggy…could be the Pippen to Roy’s MJ( very lite MJ of course )

    Boston over Miami

    – Wade hasn’t played nor had the opportunity to get that on court chemistry with LeBron and Bosh during the pre-season. LeBron will go off, but I think it’ll be the same thing we saw in Cleveland. LeBron isolating at the top of the key while his teammates stand around and watch on the perimeter. I expect Rondo to win the point guard matchup easily and KG (who has looked VERY good) to have his way against Bosh. The Celtics take this one. I expect this game to be really competitve… A lot of trash talk.

    Rockets over Lakers

    – I know it was just the pre-season, but the Lakers didn’t look very good. Kobe isn’t 100% and is still shaking off the rust. I like the Rockets to steal this one behind good games from Brooks and Scola.

    Suns over Blazers

    – The Suns want to run… The Blazers want to slow it down. I think the Suns have a big game offensively and take this one despite a great defensive/rebounding effort from Camby and offensive output from Roy.

boston over miami-honestly, i will be watching this game and recording the laker game. Should be awesome. But im gonna go with boston getting after it defensively.

lakers over rockets-i just think the lakers are the better team and will want to send a statement on opening night.

suns over portland-i think they will have a little better chemistry in the early going and get their offense going while portland gets comfortable with each other.

Scarec’s my friend, finally hollering at me after leaving me hanging on the fantasy invite, lol, I do not think they will offer Greg an extension and I do think he is an RFA come next July. Honestly, if they offered Iggy for Oden and Batum, I would not do it if I am the Blazers. I may be crazy with my investment in Greg Oden, but I still think he is someone I am more than willing to take the risk on. I mean, Roy and Iguodala would be a great duo, but do they make the Blazers championship contenders? To me, you would still have to address the situation up front, and the only player on the Blazers front court that potentially (since I think we have seen near the best LaMarcus Aldridge has to offer) is Greg Oden. If I were the 76ers, I might be apprehensive in offering Greg a big deal, as that Brand deal has not really worked out due to the same concerns everyone has about Greg, but if they did offer I would think it were a good move. I have a feeling that the Blazers more than likely will save money if they offered Greg something right now, but another injury this season could just devestate them and lead them into the mindset of wanting to cut their losses. But, if Greg plays a moderately healthy and strong season, I see the Blazers matching any offer for him on the table. Even if he does get hurt again, I have a hard time seeing Greg Oden not being matched once he is an RFA. The new CBA will of course possibly effect Greg’s worth, but I see it being 8-10 million for his new deal, which some might think is overpaying (greatly), but for that one or two years where he is healthy, your team has a big chance to contend. But, the bottomline is, he has yet to go through a healthy season and has yet to show consistency (the 5 games before he got hurt does not really count considering he got hurt right afterwards). To offer him a deal right now, with all things considered, would be a gamble I do not think Portland is willing to take, and I honestly think Greg wants to bet on himself and prove what he is worth when he gets back on the court. The injuries have broken my heart man, I feel really bad for Greg and this is honestly like the worst case scenario anyone could have seen for his career, which does not help that Kevin Durant has had the total opposite seemingly. It kills me that no matter how hard Greg has worked, everyone clobbers him over getting hurt, which is something I do not think he could prevent. So, I think that November 1 will come and go, and that Greg Oden will work his butt off to show what he is worth on the market as an RFA. For the right price, it kills me to say this as he is my favorite Blazer and I will still be in his corner regardless, some team might be able to sign Greg Oden away from the Blazers this summer. If someone offers him near max money (which I do not think will happen, but it very well could), than the Blazers may indeed just let Greg Oden go, which I think would be an even more crushing blow to the franchise and its fans than even people pointing out that they should have taken Durant. I go back to that situation and 100 times out of 100 I take Greg. I have no regrets and really want to see him be a Blazer for a long time.

Boston over Miami; I think Celtics trail for much of the game but keep it close and then Miami struggle to execute in the 4th due to bad chemistry. Also, I predict Shaq getting 20+ points against the weak Miami frontcourt and as a bit of a statement against Lebron. Rondo will get picked up by Wade and be held back somewhat, but still be effective as a playmaker.

Lakers over Rockets; Yao isn’t playing full minutes and the Lakers will dominate when he isn’t on the court. Enough said. Artest will score a lot more than he was in regular season last year, and Kobe will struggle to get his shot off, but Lakers still win obviously.

Blazers over Suns; going to have to disagree with you llperez regarding Portland needing to get comfortable; Suns will have just as big if not an even bigger adjustment to make trying to fill the void of Amare, Roy will make a statement by scoring 30+.

I think Greg Oden getting out of Portland would be a good thing. He needs a fresh start… A change of scenery. It seems like a lot of the fans in Portland have turned against him.

I’ll try to join the league if I still can…and I think Oden is in need of some love in Portland…Injuries can happen to anyone…ask the Walking Hall of Famer Blake Griffin( this is what other people say not me…he’s Kenyon Martin 2.0 in my eyes…don’t see Karl Malone at all)

A trade to Philly would be Ideal for both Teams…Oden gets fresh start in a Defensive minded town that doesn’t kill players for getting Injured…Iggy would get to play in his natural role as 3rd option/glue guy and elite defende next to Roy and LA…

The Sixers could also take Rudy off the Blazers hands and run him big minutes either as a 6th man or starting this year over Turner…Rudy would provide us a legit 3 point shooter in the rotation…To Then the Blazers have a legit SF Starting in their Lineup…and Iggy could provide great D on Kobe or Durant…I’d want Batum too if I was the Sixers and gladly would give up Hawes to get him…I’d figure the Blazers would want Speights though…

The Trade in theory would be Iggy and Hawes for Oden, Rudy and Batum…with the Sixers maybe giving up a 2nd round pick this year or a 1st rounder next to make up for the Blazers including Batum…It’s risky for both Teams but the deal could also pay off big time…

I do not see that deal paying off for the Blazers. They money they would have to pay Iguodala would be far too much for what he is worth, and while I too think he would be a great 3rd option/defensive guy for the Blazers, Batum’s upside there is off the charts. Switching Hawes and Oden at Center would definitely be a huge let down for the Blazers, and while I would love for the Blazers to find a place for Rudy, it would make me even more hesitant to do the deal as we are giving the 76ers basically 3 players with loads more upside and potential than both players they are receiving. Spencer Hawes is talented, don’t get me wrong, but he is not in that same category with Oden as far as possessing ability to make your team contend for a title. I already think that the Blazers chances of coming out ahead in the Bayless deal are slim, but their chances in this one are anorexic. Yes, Iguodala and Roy bring up Jordan and Pippen comparisons, and maybe LaMarcus was a better option than Jordan ever had past Pippen, but the league has changed and at the same time neither one of the two aforementioned players is near their compared counterparts. The only thing in my mind that makes the Blazers a possible contender to the Lakers or any other top tier team in the west is having a healthy Greg Oden. I think without him, even with Iguodala, they fall short. Roy, Iguodala and Aldridge versus Kobe, Gasol and Artest? I know there is more to the team than that, but I just feel that the Blazers hopes for being competitive come and go with Greg Oden, as much as people besides you might see that as being crazy. The trade would give the 76ers so much young talent, it would be a total steal in my eyes. Even with Speights, who would still not be what the Blazers need as far as a back-up for LaMarcus Aldridge, this trade in my mind would just full on be the Blazers admitting defeat in their rebuilding process, and to me would bring a window of opportunity slamming shut. Rudy Fernandez could be a very solid player in this league, but I think this would be a move of desperation that would also lose the Blazers two pieces that could make them competitive for a long ways down the road. I know you want your 76ers to win, but I think in this deal you would cannibalize the Blazers man, and I know there is no way in the world I would do this deal if I were Portland. The 76ers are taking more risk, but the Blazers have way more to lose.

Boston vs Miami… Heat win, lack of wing defenders hurt them, theyll miss Tony Allen.

Lakers vs Rockets… Rockets with the upset, with Bynum out Yao will have his way, BRooks is going to have a big game too, Rockets match up perfectly with Lakers, especially with Bynum out.

Blazers vs Suns… Suns, I think Hakim Warrick will have a coming out party, and Nash will torch the Blazers, i think Blazers start out slow, but once they get Oden back will be great.

I agree that a fresh start could possibly be great for Oden, but at the same time I think fans can be won back easily. I really think Portland wants Greg Oden to succeed, and if they will only dwell on the fact that he is not Kevin Durant, than that is there loss. But as long as Greg is willing to put forth an effort, which I think he has, than I see the Blazers fans being very accepting and encouraging. Rudy saying he wants out of Portland is one thing, because everyone loved him and it was like he was basically giving up on those who were cheering for him, but with Greg being injured, I do not think people have taken the same stance, and if people actively were saying to trade Greg, that is news to me (very unwelcome news). I just look at that starting line-up and I see no other Center I want more than Greg Oden to be in there. He has something different to offer than other big man in the league right now, and while I know he must be in a terrible place right now, I look to better days ahead, as I am sure Greg and Portland does as well. If Greg puts in the work, Portland would be ecstatic to receive the benefits. The thing with Greg Oden that is so different from most young players who have been considered busts is that no matter what team Greg goes too, if he plays he will be playing a big role. For people that say he is a back-up Center, than he would be much better than any back-up Center in the league. He is still 22 years old, he would have just finished college, and to trade him at this point I think would be more than likely forfeiting any chance Portland has at being a real contender, unless they get something MAJOR in return.

    Miami over Boston.
If they were to lose, I could hear the critics..

    Rockets over Lakers
I’m biased, but no Bynum will hurt. Hayes & Scola can hold it down on Defense, & I think Miller will have a surprise game. Kobe isn’t 100 percent so I’d expect Battier to have an easier time shutting him down with Lee’s help. Martin & Brooks looked great in Pre-Season against the slower backcourt of Blake and Fisher. I honestly believe the Rockets will win, only thing keeping Lakers in it will be home court and a surprise game from Odom. Hopefully Jefferies and rookie Patterson can keep up with him.

    Blazers over Suns
Too much talent to lose against a new Suns team. Nash is great, but he does his worst against Blazers as far as assists wise. B-Roy goes off and LA has no one to D up against him.

    Heat over Celtics

I think that Lebron, Wade and Bosh will win their 1st game. I probably will be a game in the mid 90’s, but I have the Heat winning this one by like 4 or 5. Lebron should have a big game, and put them over the top.

    Rockets over Lakers

I think the Lakers will depend on Pau Gasol this game, as Kobe knocks off the rust. I don’t think the Lakers’ offense will be as good with Pau and down low carrying the load. Also, they don’t have Bynum which would’ve made my prediction go the other way if they had him. I think the Lakers lose on the night they get their title rings, by about 6.

    Portland over Suns

I’m not excited about the Suns. I have the Blazers winning by about 8. Look for Brandon Roy to have a big night, and push them over the top.
