I was just watching the Sixers vs Spurs summer league game and I noticed Okafor wasn’t getting deep post position a lot.  I’m not posting to say he stunk because he had 20pts and 9 rebs on 10-22 shooting.  I just think if he got better position he would have been more efficent and could have dominated the smaller Spurs bigs.

He got better position in the 2nd half but early in the game he was posting up but stepping out to catch the pass.  He didn’t get deep post position even when matched up with smaller defenders like Jean-Charles.  Okafor was also catching the ball at the elbow and taking it off the dribble.  A few times he scored but he mostly got stopped by either his man or the help d.  I’m not sure if that was part of Philly’s game plan or if Okafor wasn’t fighting for good position.  In the 2nd half he started to get the ball on the block and got a lot of easy buckets.  He also had a rim run where McConnell hit him for a dunk.

I was just wondering if anybody else saw the game?  I just thought it was strange that he was stepping out to get passes instead of burying his defender in the paint.  I think he looked good out there and needs some shooters on the wings to open up the floor.  That way if they come to double he can kick it for open 3s.

I agree I thought they should of found him deeper in the post. He had a good spurt in the 3rd quarter but most the game had some problems. Mishandling passes he got blocked I think 3 times by his man who was Livo Jean Charles I think. He is listed at 6’9 230 pounds Struggled from the line was 0-4. Expected him to dominate down low his man a bit more but maybe just a bit of nerves his first game. Has potential and his good low post footwork is there.

I think it had a lot to do with the Sixers guards being clueless, more so than anything else. They just couldn’t get him the ball at the right place/time.

Oak looked solid in first outing. He will score a lot easy.

He was fine once he settled in, but the free throws worry me.

First half he struggled some finding his way but once he got comfortable he did his thing. He missed some layups and got a few blocked. He will want to try and dunk those open layups as the NBA athletes will gobble up layups in close.

Also, I would like to see him rebound more out of his area and sprint harder in transition on defense.

But this is summer league where you learn. He has post moves and even caught and faced free throw line area and in. I have no doubt he will score in the NBA solidly.

He barely even try, still put good numbers, game comes so easy and natural for him, his presence alone can wear out teams, a beast…

I watched the game and was thingink that as well. He was posting up wherever the defense allowed him to. He never really put pressure on his defender to guard him beofre the he got the ball. It’s not a red flag though. It’s just something that comes with experience. After watching guys like ZBO  abuse their dfender for position before the ball comes inside, he’ll become aware of how much of a difference that makes. I was always taught "Do your work early."  The harder you work before you get the ball, the easier it will be once you get the ball.

    – The kid has confidence, a lot. I think he simply felt that they couldn’t guard him no matter where he caught the ball.
