Someone needs to put together a deal for this guy.. He is being misused in Memphis..

This kid would be the perfect compliment to a PG like Paul, Williams, Rondo, or even Nash.. Would be amazing with a great big man like Howard, Amare, Jefferson or even Duncan.. Put him with a great coach and he will be a stud.. Play him with D’Antoni and his system and you have a 25-4-6 guy.. Put him with Phill Jackson and you get a Kobe-like player… Instead, you get to see a Mayo that is frustraded with his role in the offense and the chemistry on his under-acheiving team.. IMO, the Knicks, Jazz, or Hornets should try like hell to get this guy.. A possile look on this

    • Knicks give up:
    • Gallo, Walker, and a filler like a second roud pick or something..
    • Grizz give up:
    • Mayo, Haddidi

That lets Chandler or Randolph move into the starting lineup and moves Fields to the bench, where he belongs, and gives the Knicks a great player that is willing to play almost any role you ask him to.. He would be best suited as a 25 point scorer on this team and is a perfect outside compliment to Amare..  For the Grizz it lets Gay move to the 3, where I think he is best, gives them a lights out shooter that doesnt need to ball to be effective and opens up more shots for guys like Henry, Conley, and Randolph..

Am I way off base here?? What do you all think?

I like him an he has a lot of skill, but I just don’t like undersized two guards, look what Jason Richardson did to him last night, he’s small but also pretty skinny which doesn’t help.

Knicks have Douglas, why would they need Mayo.  Knicks should focus on trying to get Melo or another big man.

Conley finally starting to rack up assists and Gay running on all cylinders has prevented his numbers from improving this year…I too would like to see him somewhere else. I agree that the Jazz would be a good fit; he would be a monster in that offense. With Zach Randolph’s contract expiring, would this be a ridiculous deal?

    Grizzles get:

    Paul Millsap and C.J. Miles

    Jazz get:

    Mayo

Millsap is a proven 18 and 10 guy when he starts and Miles will get you 11 points off the bench and is still just 23, and that team needs shooters.

    You’re overrating Mayo.

He’ll never be a 25, 4 and 6 player. The only way he averages 25 is being a high volume jump shooter because he doesn’t finish well around the rim or get to the line. He’s also not a good enough passer to average 6 assists either.

Mayo isn’t this great combo guard… He’s a tweener. He doesn’t have the vision or decision making to be a point guard and he isn’t long, strong or athletic enough to defend bigger two guards. People talk about how good of a defender he is (he’s good at pressuring the ball and being active), but he gets punished by bigger two guards.

He’s still the same player as he was during high school and USC in my opinion. I don’t think his ceiling is as high as people predicted.

I agree Indiana, I would never wan’t him on my team, tweeners never seem to succeed unless in an uptempo offense but even then they never win championships.

I doubt Jazz trade Milsap but Mayo can score and could be a big help to the Jazz if they could get him.

I dont get he size thing.. He is 6’4, 210..  Manu is 6’5, 205, Ray Allen is 6’5, 205, Wade is 6’3, 220… Those guys have all won.. Mayo is right in between them as far as weight and height.. He cant win a championship by himself but neither did those guys…

Mayo is one of the best jump shooter in the NBA and games where he gets 15 shot attempts, he is scoring around 25 points per game..  In an up tempo offense or one where he shares the ball with his PG, he could easily average 5-6 assits.. As for rebounding.. He gets 3 per game playing with 2 guys who kill the glass…

I believe that on another team, where he was option number 2, this kid is a 25 point scorer… He could even be a second option on a championship team.. Put him with Dwight Howard and watch them go to the Championship game year after year.. Put him with Amare and watch them win close to 45 games…

Guy needs to be somewhere else to truly be great..

I would trade Millsap and Miles for Mayo but not until Memo comes back and he has proven that him and Jefferson can play well together. Right now I’m not quite sure. If Utah trades Millsap and AK, who they gonna start at the 4 while Okur is in rehab? The only possible lineup I could see is this: Dwill, Mayo, Hayward, AK, Jefferson. I don’t think Hayward is ready to start. Not yet. But once Okur comes back, then I think Utah would be interested. Also I think Utah should try and get Darrell Arthur in this deal as well. Utah could use a backup 4. Right now they have Jeremy Evans, who is injured and Francisco Elson who is more of a 5 than 4. Losing Millsap is alot to Utah especially when he is averaging 20 and 10, and trying to replace Boozer. Arthur is someone that I could see having a role like Millsap and would flourish with it too.

Oh mayo isn’t undersized. I also don’t think he’s a number one option like a Kobe,Wade etc. He’s not someone you build you’re team around he’s a second option or share the first option type player like the other guards in his class ( Eric gordan, rose, Westbrook) all of them are good and can be allstars but you don’t build you’re team around them they are a major part of the team and can be first options on a good team but on a title team or serious contender they are best as second options or maybe sharing first option duties

Mayo isn’t as long as Manu, Ray and especially Wade (who’s 6′ 4, not 6′ 3").

I’ve always thought this and it’ll probably be soon since Memphis is just giving away all their money. If he went to the Hornets, he would be dropping 3’s with open looks from CP3.

Actually the perfect height for the 2 is 6’6. 6’4 isn’t a bad height, but it certainly isn’t ideal. With that small height other shooting guards who are bigger can just shoot over him. If you are 6’4 and a 2 you almost have to be athletic and be able to pass the ball somewhat well in order to succeed. I particularly don’t mind a 6’4 guard. I would love it if they were a little bigger, but I’ll live. It’s 6’3 when I start to worry.

    At the combine…

Wade:  6’3.75 in socks, 6’4.75 in shoes    6’10.75 wingspan  212lbs

Mayo:  63.25 in socks, 6’4.25 in shoes    6’6 wingspan   200lbs

And this nonsense about if Mayo averaged 15 shots a game he’d average 25 points… Mayo averaged 15.8 shots a game last year and averaged 18 points. Not efficient at all. His inability to get to the line and his lack of playmaking skills will only ever allow him to be a second option at best.

Just checked the trade machine and Miles, Millsap for Mayo does not work Memphis would have to include Thabeet in the deal as well. Utah would have to probably add a draft pick, especially if it ends up being a lottery pick in order for Memphis to even think about doing this trade. What do you think?

Jazz trade Miles, Millsap and first round 2011 draft pick to Memphis for Mayo and Thabeet.

This trade also saves the Jazz money!! (That is always a plus for Utah. Any trade that can save them money and add to their team, the Jazz all over it like mosquitos on a hot summer day.)

Actually the average measurements for a NBA shooting guard are: 6’3.49 without shoes, and a 6’7.9 wingspan.

According to the combine, Mayo is only .24′ below average height. I think the big issue for him is that he has short arms and although he tested out well, he doesn’t show very much in game athleticism.

@Stanfordhoops that was exactly what I was saying. He tested out to have very good athleticism, but he just can’t use it all that well in games. He is fast and has good handles, but he struggles to get into the lane. He can jump really high, but he rarely uses that ability.
