Lotto StudParticipantFeel free to list a comparison for a prospect that isn’t your typical comparison, meaning go outside the norm and don’t list any Top 10 prospects.
I’ll gladly start off with…
Joe Jackson = Aaron Brooks
LaQuinton Ross = Robert Horry

Memphis MadnessParticipantJoel Embiid — Ralph Sampson. Embiid looks like a composite of the old Rockets Twin Towers. Lanky like Ralph Sampson with finesse and everything else.
Andrew Wiggins — Richard Dumas. Should be a SUPERSTAR. Does he get it?
Julius Randle — still like the Z Bo comparison. Can bull his way to the hoop and get boards.
Chane Behanan — Jerome Lane. Was going to call Chane a poor man’s Charles Barkley, but that is basically Jerome Lane.
Marshall Henderson — Pistol Pete Maravich. A gunner with tons of range and no conscience. Possibly even worse shot selection and even more of an oddball.
Shaq Goodwin — Kenneth Faried. A high energy undersized power forward who can score some and rebound. He can be a high level role player in the right system.
Geron Johnson — Shannon Brown. Good athlete and energy guy who can throw down some really good in-game dunks. A tweener/combo guard who isn’t your main ball handler or your main shooter.
Jabari Parker — the Carmelo Anthony comparison is too easy. Nor, does Parker have Paul Pierce’s leadership and intangibles. I will go with Bernard King as my comparison. A guy who can really fill it up, has range, and can beat guys inside around the basket. Not a super athlete but can dunk and finish strong. Solid rebounder too. Can dominate when on. A great scorer/shooter but not a guy like Michael Jordan or Kevin Durant (best two wing scorers ever?). Jabari Parker probably won’t win as much as he should, but he is a guy who should be able to carry a midlevel team.

hbomb3300ParticipantI don’t understand the Zbo comparison… Randle is an elite athlete, Zbo is below average, also I think Randle will extend his range to 3 point and drive more in the NBA, Zbo uses skill and shooting in the mid range area. I would compare Randle to Larry Johnson.

Memphis MadnessParticipantJulius Randle’s athleticism isn’t in the same range as Andrew Wiggins or Aaron Gordon. His game looks like a combination of power and craftiness inside. Watching his highlights reminds me of Z Bo. I have seen Z Bo in beast mode IN PERSON against the Spurs in the 2011 playoffs. Z Bo can play. Z Bo used to have better range (what happened to his jumper?) and used to be able to dunk, but nowhere near Prime Larry Johnson.
From what I remember, Prime Larry Johnson was more of a Lebron type athlete who mixed strength, power, explosiveness, and hops. … I don’t see Julius Randle in the same category although he might get there if he gets better weight training.
Best case scenario: Julius Randle is a blend of Z Bo (rebounding, offensive scoring inside, putbacks) and LJ (all-around skills, turn around jumpers, passing, ball handling, dunking).
I will admit though that Julius Randle has great college stats and is closer to Larry Johnson’s stats at UNLV (Two years after a stint in JUCO) than Z Bo’s one year at Michigan State.
I think that either comparison though is a touch better than a comparison to Chris Webber. Webber looked more freakish and versatile than Randle. I have also heard someone comparing Julius Randle to Derrick Coleman (basically the other really really good power forward from that Nineties-Early 2000’s Era). DC was a load too.

Lotto StudParticipantCan we please forget about the whole Randle/Z-Bo comparison because it will kill this thread that was specifically made for prospects outside the Top 10.
