He was really sucking it in summer league, man i was very wrong about him, I thought bobcats got a steal before i saw him in action in Vegas, he looked so timid with no feel for the game, he can be a player like this, he look a lot like Jeff Ayress, i think he can challenge him to be the worst big in the nba…

     Give him time!

He is only 18yo (19 in august). He has amazing size, I thought he could become like Bosh within 3 to 4 years.

I’m not a Hornets fan, but they have a bright future with Kemba, Lance, Vonleh & Zeller. If they keep this group for the next 4 years, they will be at the top of the eastern conference.

      "Give him time!"

Appears as if you’ve already wrote MKG off. He’s not mentioned above, so "give him time".

Actually I did, they waisted the 2nd pick big time on him.

I’ve never been a fan of MKG, he will be a Thabo Sefolosha 2.0, 30-35mpg, 7-12ppg…

        Nothing more.

I’m a big Voneleh fan but you’re right he was underwhelming in SL. That said, he’s one of the younger guys in the draft and has a lot of potential to be good. In SL I was impressed with his ability to make moves in the post and get good looks. He uses a variety of up-fakes and pivots to get where he wants to go but he struggled greatly finishing. He seems like he needs to take an extra second gather himself and go up strong.

I had him in the top 5 on my mock draft and I’ve always been a fan of his as I like his defensive potential. I think it is clear that the Hornets see him as very much a long term prospect as when they lost McRoberts they moved to sign Marvin Williams despite needing to give Cody Zeller more playing time in due course. If they had thought that Vonleh was ready to pick up the slack behind Zeller then I don’t think they would have signed Williams.

I expect that the Hornets thought that Vonleh would be off the board when they drafted and so when he was available they either took BPA or their own first choice pick may have already gone.

I’ll happily admit he didn’t do much in the Summer League but I never judge a kid on a few games and we honestly need to give him a year or so to allow the Hornets coaches to work with him. He’ll have a good mentor in Al Jefferson and I’m sure that Patrick Ewing will be working one on one with him a lot. If Patrick Ewing cannot pass on some good tips to a raw big man how to improve his game then I don’t know who can.

I’m not worried about Vonleh. Might be better in a structured NBA setting than a sloppy summer league setting

I watched him yesterday, and he’s just raw. He’s a 247 lb kid and his "man strength" hasn’t quite caught up with him. He made plenty of nice spin moves, and up and unders, but he just kind of lacked that extra strength to finish through contact.

That’s not something that worries me much, as a lot of that is just natural maturation. He gives guys problems in the post as he is so long, and has great timing on the boards and altering shots. Yeah, he went 2/12 and missed some bad shots, but a lot of his banks and post ups were barely off. He could have just as easily went 6/12 if the is shots were placed just an inch in any direction on the bank.

I think his game will be much tigher by the time we see him play in early October in the pre-season. Still 10 rpg in only 27 minutes by a 19 year old is a nice sign, and in reality, I think he has one of the higher floors in this draft class, because of his rebounding and defense.

Was getting double doubles. Had 18 rebounds against the kings. Should be a work horse.

IF he gets playing time – which he probably won’t get a ton of behind Al Jefferson, Zeller, Marvin Williams and Biyombo

the thing is that the Hornets view Vonleh as a project and I still feel that his main NBA worth will be on defence. If he can develop his shooting and get some mid range then it will be a bonus. Kemba will feed him a few dunks and put backs to keep him interested and the likes of Al Jefferson, Coach Clifford, Patrick Ewing and even MJ himself will be around to pass on shooting tips.

The summer league is not indicative of much of anything. Noah Vonleh was a middling player on a bad Big Ten team. He got off to a nice start in the non-conference, but his draft stock was not reflective of his play or readiness. It shouldn’t be controversial to say that he is not ready for a significant NBA role right now. For Charlotte, however, it is a worthy gamble given where they were picking. Vonleh has the physical makeup of someone any team would want, but they have to be patient and develop him. It is a gamble. Some guys never develop, but Charlotte has guys who can fill out a rotation.  If they are going to make a step in their long-term building, they need guys who can cause havoc on both ends. With both Zeller and Vonleh, they need those two to be ready in a few years when Jefferson is either gone or on the decline. I think Charlotte’s hope is that Jefferson opts out next summer and re-signs for a similar two year with an option for three. This would give the Hornets the full rookie contract of Zeller and three years with Vonleh to know where they stand. Whether this plays out, or another team with cap money jacks up the years in their offer, I have no clue. Still, in an ideal world, they pack on weight onto Zeller and develop Vonleh so that three years down the line they are not in a position where they have to start over again.

What Al Jefferson bought Charlotte was time to be patient with their young guys while playing somewhat respectably. With the addition of Stephenson, they could possibly be good (insert all the caveats that come with Lance Stephenson’s trustworthiness). It will be interesting to see how the team changes some of the things they do offensively as Marvin Williams and Cody Zeller are plugged at the 4. So long as they are committed to Mike Kidd-Gilchrist, and by not drafting another wing their commitment to him is known, they cannot have another 5th option. It means that they need their power forward to be a real scoring threat inside and out. Neither Williams nor Zeller are cut from the same mold as McRoberts. Still, if Stephenson can handle some of the creating, then Williams is a similar shooter. They should be one of the more interesting teams to follow.

I hope Vonleh won’t be a bust. He’s very raw. Didn’t shoot to well in workouts nor in the Summer League. Give him time though, he won’t be much this year but maybe next year he will. I still have faith in him. He’s young, and has the confidence and work ethic to figure it out. Have some faith in him. It will him time to figure it out but he will. Hornets did get a steal in Vonleh at 9 but that steal won’t come to fruition until about another 2 or 3 years down the road.

he was generally mocked to go in the 8-12 range. From what I saw and read anyway. It wasnt until Chad Ford commented that a lot of GMs preferred him to Randle did his stock start to jump. Then he had the good measurements on top of that. Really he was taken I the right spot and will probably be a 2 year product in terms  of consistent production. although his percentages were terrible as mentioned he was getting the rght type of shots. I think he struggled trying to live up to the stretch 4 rumours but his rebounding proved that he belongs in the league.  Strength and experience which will come with age will benefit him incredibly

Ok, let’s compare Noah Vonleh to a guy I compared him to earlier (without looking at his stats) named Allan Henderson.

Noah Vonleh at Indiana: 11.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.4 blocks

Allan Henderson’s freshman year at IU: 11.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.87 steals, and 1.52 blocks.

Regarding Vonleh, the good news is that Charlotte doesn’t have to depend on him right now. He will learn and get better. As somebody mentioned earlier, he was boarding the rock pretty good. The Hornets did a great job of filling needs this summer. They addressed shooting and playmaking. They lost Mcroberts but did a great job hustling to get Williams. He isn’t McRoberts but if they didn’t snag him, they would have nada! Zeller and MKG will improve alot this year. Not meaning they will drop 20-25 a game but meaning they will learn their roles and start to master them. With Kemba, Al and Lance, we have go to guys..With Taylor and PJ we have shooters who can also get to the whole off their shot. Nel and Pargo can shoot as well. Charlotte is on the way up. The bad news is, in basketball due to contracts and ect, the window can be small. Next year, 4-5 seed at worst, win a playoff game or a round and go from there. The following year, time to make a run.
