I dont know why everyone keeps thinking this draft is so weak. I think people underestimate the Euro talent. Everyone gets compared to Darko unless they prove themselves it seems. I think there are more busts in American born college stars than Euros. Just look at the draft history, Greg Oden, Corey Brewer, Joe Alexander, Adam  Morrisson, Shelden Williams, Branden Wright , Marcus Williams( uconn),

Its about depth and star value. There are players in this draft, but no Superstar talent and not very much depth. There are players in every draft, the 06 draft had Bargnani, Gay, Roy, Aldridge, etc. and people always bring that draft to shame, but quite frankly it was a weak one. It doesnt really matter altogether, if they scout corectly they should be able to add talent and grab a good player for their system as long as they are in the lotto.

No one says that foreign players can’t play. Just look at the international talent on NBA rosters today.

Dirk, Pau, Scola, Bargnani, and Parker are beasts.

Ginobili, Nene, Gallinari, Beno, Calderon, Marc Gasol, Diaw, and Varejao are above average players.

Kirilenko, Turkoglu, Gortat, Batum, Delfino, Ibaka, Barbosa, and Kleiza are all solid starters.

There is no shortage of international talent in the league.

For every Adam Morrison there is a Nikoloz Tskitishvili.  There happens to be a larger sample size for American players so naturally there will be more "busts."

I think percentage-wise, there have been more busts from Euro than America.  Not exactly sure but I would believe so.

Sometimes it is also up to the organization not to overate a player they saw Internationally. If you dont know the players ethics, consistantsy, how he responds to physicality, how he will behave in North America, etc. Tskitishvili was taken that high for his skillset, teams learned alot about him fast.

The weakness of this draft is not the Americans, it is everyone. The problem with this draft is that Enes Kanter and Kyrie Irving could have a combined eleven games and still might go 1-2. Tristan Thompson is a fast riser not because he is in any way skilled, but because he plays hard. Kemba Walker is a 6-foot scorer was a 41 percent shooter in the Big East and lacks point guard skills, yet there are those who think he can be a top ten pick. Greg Smith regressed at a WAC school in a year where the conference was as bad as it has ever been, and now NBA teams think there is something there. Willie Reed can enter the draft after playing two years of unspectacular basketball at an A-10 school and could possibly be drafted. Josh Selby and Jereme Richmond can be unimpressive boobs at their respective colleges and still have people thinking they could possibly go in the first round. Kyle Singler did everything short of hanging a sign around his neck that read “Not an NBA small forward” this past year but in this draft will get taken. Bismack Biyombo can be out of necessity be elevated to a cash-strapped Spanish club and because he blocked shots off the bench at a Chinemelu Elonu-like rate the rates at which he turned the ball and fouled are not regarded as being inhibitive of his draft chances. Jonas Valanciunas is a twig who averaged 8.2 personal fouls per 40 minutes in Euroleague competition, but he is regarded as one of the top centers. Donatas Motiejunas kills bad clubs and does very little against decent ones. Nikola Mirotic doesn’t want to come over to the NBA anytime soon, and has said so multiple times.

To steal a line from Marc Spears’ column, “It’s horrendous. Every year we always talk about how bad the draft is. This year we really mean it.”
