I was thinking and Blake Griffin reminds me a lot of Antonio McDyess back in the 90’s. They both are undersized 4’s with crazy athleticism and if he can develop his jumper like McDyess did later on in his career he can be unstoppable.

He’s more like a Shawn Kemp. Both insane rebounders and they dunk everything or get most points close to the net. Both have insane hops. McDyess has a jumper. Blake doesn’t. Jordin Hill is more like McDyess.

Yeah but McDyess didn’t have that in the 90’s, he developed that once he got injured and couldn’t rely on his athleticism anymore.

In the beginning of McDyess’s career he was a Kemp type athlete maybe a notch below Kemp, he wasnt far off in terms of athletcism and he was a 20 10 guy for a few seasons. If Blake Griffin plays like pre injury McDyess he would be a successful pick.

I wouldn’t say McDyess is under size 6’9 is not a small power forward

Blake Griffin is the next Kenyon Martin, nothing wrong with that.

Mickey D is more on the 6’8″ side than the 6’9″ side just like Blake

I am a fan of the Mcdyess and Kemp comparison. I don’t understand why people don’t think Griffin won’t develop a jumper. From all acounts he works his tail off, and he was never forced to shoot a jumper in the college game. I would just dunk on people 24/7 if I could. And he in my opinion will be better than Martin. I realize Martin dominated the college game in a similar fashion, but he didn’t average 14 rebounds. And I mean, Griffin’s stats in the NCAA’s were just ridiculous. I truly believe whoever he goes to next year, with the exception of the Kings and Clippers (Please God don’t have him go to the Clippers), will be a playoff contender. I would love to see him with either the Thunder, Knicks, T-Wolves(Him and Jefferson could be nasty), or the Grizzlies. Him, OJ Mayo, and Rudy Gay is as solid as a young foundation as you’re gonna get.

i wouldnt consider Griffin or McDyess to be undersized 4’s at all. i think 6’9, 6’10 is prototypical and Griffin will certainly be listed at least 6’9. i know you probably assume he’ll measure at 6’8, but in actuality, most 6’10 NBA power forwards are really 6’8. dwight howard measured at 6’9 and no one considers him an undersized center. none of this is important, but i think NBA roster heights are very misleading.

You took the words right out of my mouth (or the letters right off of my keyboard). I think the term undersized 4 is a misnomer especially since there in no dominant 6’10” to 7′ powerforward in the NBA right now other than KG. L. Aldridge is in that size range and he has nice game but I wouldnt consider him dominant.

Keep in mind, Kemp was a very dominant and popular player for a short period of time. He had character and work ethic issues from day 1, but his body and athletcism were similar to Griffins. On top of all of the amazing attributes of Griffin and in my opinion the very few large or uncorrectable flaws, He has what to me is the most underrated attribute. He is a good kid and an unbelievably hard worker. This season, nobody talks about it, but I noticed, I dont think I’ve ever seen a College big man in better shape than Griffin was. Things like that are what carries over well, especially considering how much room for improvement he has. IMO, Griffin is the in the Company of only Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant as the only locks to be stars ive seen comming in since Lebron.
