STATnMeloParticipantLooking at the current roster I see 8 guys who should be rotation players. Melo-STAT-Billups-Fields-Turiaf-Douglas-Williams-Brewer but to win a playoff series you need true depth
During that trade they gave up 4 rotation players which was fine but only got 2 back hurting their depth. They needed and extra guard back in the deal someone who could space the floor. JR Smith was a no no…so was Afflalo but the guy they could have gotten was Gary Forbes who showed signs of improvement throughout the year.
With 2 Days left in the trade deadline they said they were active but I dont think active enough as Nazr Mohhammed was attainable since Jordan dealt him for DJ White and Morris Peterson and you would think Kelenna Azubuike and Bill Walker would have gotten the deal done. As they are better than White and Peterson.
New York got Melo and Billups but could have gotten 2 key rotation players if they really were eager enough to get them.
The Knicks could have looked like this
Mohhammed-Stoudemire-Anthony-Fields-Billups
Douglas-Williams-Turiaf-Forbes–Brewer
This team would have
Speed(Douglas-Brewer-Forbes)
Strength(Stoudemire-Anthony-Mohhammed-Turiaf)
Shooting(Billups-Fields-Douglas-Anthony)
Defense(Mohhammed-Brewer-Fields-Billups-Douglas-Turiaf)
That team would jump to top 4 out East

CodySLCParticipantTheir gonna have to wait intell next year, but should be able to add some good depth. I think their biggest problem is not having a true center.

NYK2010ParticipantGood point about Nazr
The Knicks really need to add some rebounding and size in the offseason.
Maybe don’t pick up the option for Billups and go after some big men.
No shortage with Tyson Chandler, Deandre Jordan, Marc Gasol, Dalembert and potentially Nene too.

Mr. 19134ParticipantYou made some great points but then you basically summed everything up by saying Gary Forbes and Nazr are the difference between the Knicks and the 4th seed….um……you really beleive that?
Gary Forbes can be gotten in the D-League. And Nazr would of been a great addition but I don’t know how much he would play considering he is a slow and old and has never played in an offense with that tempo so I don’t even think he would of been a great fit.
The Knicks need a center tho in the worse way. But look at Chris Johnson and how he is playing for the Celtics. I see no reason why they can’t get somebody from the D-League to clog the lane.
The Warriors just got Jeff Adrien who would of been a good fit.
Byron Mullens to me is better then Mozgov and might of been able to get relatively easy off the Thunder especially after they got Perkins and Nazr.
Courtney Sims is availible. Sean Williams, Joe Alexander, and Jamerrio Davidson just to name a few are players who can come in a give the Knicks some minutes and rebound, play defense, and get after loose balls.

Meditated StatesParticipantIs having no defensive minded players. Next season they will add more to this team. They are hoping for a playoff spot this year, no more than that. Defensive players and 3 point shooting is what they will need.

knicksfreakParticipantThe Knicks actually added some good defensive presence in Brewer and Balkman in this trade.
Balkman played strong D in limited minutes yesterday. He also rebounds well for his size and possesses good athleticism and ballhandling skills.
As a knicks fan i liked getting Brewer back in the deal. He is still a good young playe with potential and is worth taking a look at after the failed Anthony Randolph experiment.
Some guys to look at for the Center position may be:
Marcus Camby is the perfect complement to Amare Stoudemire. Great defender and rebounder with a solid jumper. Too bad he is so old but Portland was shopping him and Camby might not mind returning to New York to a contending team for next year.
Cole Aldrich has seemingly become expendable for the Thunder after the acquisition of Perkins and Mohammed. He is still developing but he would fit well next to Amare. He struggles when fed the ball on the block and he is expected to create his own offense but he can grab rebounds and get alot of buckets off of offensive rebounds or easy feeds with Amare and Melo being doubled.
Greg Oden may no longer be in Portland’s plans. His recurring injuries may really be turning the Blazers off. They seem to be cursed. He is a restricted free agent this year and it remains to be seen if Portland would match an offer sheet.
Samuel Dalembert could also be a good fit if he can be had for the right price. He is a good defender and solid rebounder.
Other free agents I like for the Knicks this offseason are Earl Clark, Alexis Ajinca, and Chuck Hayes.

sheltwon3ParticipantNew York are trying to get Jeffries who should help. Also Earl Barron should be picked up. That should be good for this year. Next year they have plenty of free agents and they have a young big man playing overseas in Jerome Jordan. He is athletic and should be a decent shot blocking. he blocked a lot of shots in college and that seems to be part of his skill set. Also how is Gary forbes better than Brewer, Williams, or even Bill Walker. Last night Cleveland a team that has been together for a while and playing pretty good went against a team that was trying to come together.
Denver beat Boston because Boston was out of it. It was a lie that Boston was shorthanded because Perkins was not going to play either way and Boston has played good without him. Cleveland beat Lakers before the break. Cleveland was also at home. New York defense woes in this game is something that has to be worked on because of chemistry. Team defense is not the same as one on one defense. Melo and Amare may be terrible one on one defenders but with better Chemistry, they should be able to have decent team defense.
I notices that Amare, Melo, and Billups played pretty well offensively but the rest of the team did not. Douglas went 0 for 8 after playing great at home. He makes 3 out of 8, Knicks win.

Raef LaFrentzParticipant"Why is Corey Brewer so underrated?"
Answer: Because Corey Brewer sucks at anything basketball related aside from trying really hard on defense(which makes no difference when you are 180lbs).

NYK2010ParticipantChicago has no depth?
Taj Gibson, Kyle Korver, Watson, Asek thats pretty good.
Also they have the best Center of any of the top 3 teams.
Miami definately has no depth and at PG/C there pretty weak too.

NYK2010ParticipantBrewer won’t be back next year, Knicks don’t need help at the wing positions anyway.
Once the team gels some they’ll be fine but still lack a shot blocker and rebounder.
Turiaf can’t play more than 20-25 mins he gets in foul trouble a lot.
Jeffries and Ear Barron if both signed would definately help.
The Knicks will really struggle against Dwight Howard. They do matchup well against the Heat esp. if they can keep Wade in check.

STATnMeloParticipantForbes is a better shooter than…Walker, Brewer and Balkman….a better defender than Walker…..He is faster than all of them…he is 6’7 and stretches the floor and defends well. D’Antoni would make him a a solid 8th/9th man of the bench.

NYK2010ParticipantForbes isn’t a better shooter than Walker.
Forbes has played 49 games in his career, averaging 11 mins a game. His career high is 19 against the Knicks of course.
Walkers is a career 42% shooter on 3’s and 50% shooter for his career overall.
Balkman is a not an offensive player really. Brewer isn’t either.
Shawne Williams and Fields are better shooters than Forbes too.
Where are you getting your info. man, if Forbes is so good he’d get more than 11 mins a game.

NYK2010ParticipantThats not what you said though and Forbes scored his pts probably in garbage time anyway.
He’s probably faster than some of the Knicks I’ll give you that, but knowing D’antoni he wouldn’t get much time anyway.
Don’t be nieve and believe Walsh was behind the trade it was Dolan. Walsh is too smart of a Gm to give up that package esp. if Mello says he want to play for NY. Dolan met with Mello and made this trade happen and thats why the trade went down like that. Walsh learned from his one bad trade and that was the Tmac trade with Houston last year he regretting trading Jordan Hill and the draft pick next year with is only top 5 protected I think.
