CodySLCParticipantIf the deal goes threw and the Nets do get Melo (and others) will they be able to contend for a title? Two of the main players they will pick up are proven veterans and champions. But the questions remain about their age and effectiveness. But with a scorer like Carmelo and an inside presence like Brook Lopez they can defer and be strong 3rd and 4th options, and with their age should be the perfect situation for both players. The one problem with this team would be the lack of depth. But this would be a strong lineup and my guess is they could compete with anyone in the the east.
Billups- Getting older but still a great leader, and has the playoff experience.
Hamilton- On the decline but another scoring threat, and proven winner. His movement off the ball should help everyones game.
Melo- Ready to take next step and lead to team to the title?
Humphries- Over 9 rebounds in only 25mpg. Which is good because lopez isnt rebound well this year.
Lopez- 7 footer who can score in the post and has room to improve. With all the new threats on offence his scoring
percentage should only get better. What do you guys think?

GrandmamaParticipantOrlando, Miami, Chicago, and Boston are all easily still better than that team and that’s just the Eastern Conf.

Jlv2010what else can mean a championship? They might as well bring in Ben Wallace and make Larry Brown the coach IMO.

the lake showI actually think they will be much better. Humpries is balling, Lopez can score, Melo draws a double team, Billups and Hamilton hit open shots and play pretty good defense. Its definatly a major up grade and easily a playoff team considering whats in the east

CodySLCParticipantI think they could be a top 4 team in the East. Like i said they need to add depth and a good 6th man but i think they could be better than people think.

Sonny RedParticipantWould the trade make them better then the Bulls? A healthy Bulls I say no, but with Noah out, it gets a lot closer. I’ve only seen Denver play a few times this year, and Billups wasn’t playing. I was under the impression he was struggling this year, and looking a bit washed up, then I see on ESPN ticker the other day he won Western Conference Player of the Week. So how is Billups playing? Does he look washed up, or does he have some game left?

lbeboipinoyParticipantIt’s a possibility. The east is so much weaker then then the west division so he might bring the NJ Nets to the playoff. Look how New York is doing with Stadumire, there actually good enough to pull a magic in the playoff race.

lowryfoyerayParticipantway too much ground to make up to compete in the east this year, and am i the only person who thinks they should just absorb harrington too on this trade too? They are so shallow that they would definitely need his scoring off the bench. I say go for broke, take in harrington too to ensure the trade goes through. I still don’t think they’ll contend with or without harrington, but hell might as well do it if it means they get melo

TyrekeJonesParticipantHonestly this trade makes them in the playoff hunt but only for short term, I still cannot wrap my head around the idea that their starting PG and SG would both be over 32 years old and while both are still solid players, do not really have much left in the tank to offer longterm for them to even consider competing for a championship, New Jersey trades a way a big chunk of their roster and they would literally have no bench play and with the fact that Kris Humphries is your starting PF you can tell you will not make it far in the playoffs, he is good and efficient in the minutes he is given, as a bench contributor who brings energry and toughness, he should not receive starter minutes on a playoff caliber team. And the other factor is Lopez, he does not even rebound well for his size, and it isn’t like he is a great post defender either. I feel in the short term, the Nets get better and improve but long term there is no way with this roster they can compete with the better teams in the East.
