    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba–nets-near-contract-agreement-with-brook-lopez.html

"Nets president Billy King and Lopez’s agent, Arn Tellem, are finalizing the length of the deal – four years for $58 million, or five years for $78 million – and ironing out protections on the back end to account for a right foot that Lopez broke twice in the past year, sources said.

As close as the Nets and Lopez are on a deal, several sources wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Lopez still signing an offer sheet with another team for the full four-year, $58 million maximum contract if the final details are unable to be worked out. The Charlotte Bobcats have shown the most interest in signing Lopez to a max sheet, sources said. The Nets would undoubtedly match, but signing the offer sheet would be a way for Lopez to avoid any partial guarantees based on games that the Nets might want in his deal."

Wow. I guess i shouldn’t be surprised because of all the other crazy deals being given out to big men this off season. But now with the acquisition of JJ and extensions to gerald walace and lopez i think its impossible for them to sign howard outright. so does this takes all the leverage away from howard and the nets right?

If nets dont get the proposed for howard done you think they would be better with a core of Dwill and dwight or dwill JJ walace and lopez? i think its more eminent that there is a howard for bynum deal then howard to nets now. what do you guys think?

Wow, Mikhail is just throwing an enormous amount of money at all his players, including taking on JJ’s ridiculous contract, he absolulety just wants to win at any cost. It’s like he’s playing 2K12 with no salary cap!

You have to understand that for a big market team, which Brooklyn is, even all this money really isn’t that much. I think the Knicks made something like over $200 million last year. The Nets won’t make as much in Brooklyn, but even if they are at half that rate, a team salary of $75 million a year is going to be doable since player salaries are most of a team’s expenses.

I think the Nets are still hoping to include Lopez in a sign and trade for Howard. I hope they do trade the guy because he is vastly overrated.

It’s hard to find seven-footers willing to limit themselves to 3 rpg these days, so I guess it makes sense…

Brook Lopez is offensively talented, but he has done nothing to prove he’s worthy of a max contract.

I guess we get to see who players would rather sign the minimum to play wtih Lebron, D-Wade, and Bosh or Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, and Brook Lopez.

Jesus him and eric gordon are going to be making the same amount? I know brook is limited defensively but if I HAD to pay a center max dollars.. it would be to an Elite big man defender and rebounder even if he’s limited defensively… not an above average scorer who will get cooked on the other end

I like both howard as the center and lopez at the center their good teams no matter what, but maybe better with howard. He led a subpar magic team to the playoffs and helped make ryan anderson most improved  player drawing defense to clear ryan up.

I’m also saying i’m really tired of the circus everyday we wake up amazed how nothing is done.I would let the magic and howard pay the price and walk away from the deal all together. There’s other and  another particular  player on the market thats unhappy his name is JOSH SMITH. Nobody wanted to touch joe johnsons contract, the nets didn’t have anything to lose but the money to spend. If I were the front office of the nets and i couldn’t get howard im calling the hawks back up trying to put an athletic stat sheet stuffing allstar to the mix of my team.We have seen the nets pull of magic this past month why not go back to atl and see if they can get josh of course they will want way more  for josh then they did joe but houston is willing to do multi team trades sending off young players and vets. I dont know why they aren’t getting called by the nets or any other team. They are the ideal trade partners for a rebuilding team  and going after another player besides dwight allows the nets  to keep lopez and move kris and maybe brooks thats good.

His contract gives him one year per rebound. So if he goes crazy on the boards this year he will get FIVE years instead of four.
That’s a lot of money for the BROKElyn Nets to shell out on one more overrated guy.

If I am Orlando I want none of that. Especially if it’s $78 million over five years.

The Nets do have the best Mediocre Big Four in NBA history. Rest assured that the Heat and Celtics will be laughing all
the way to the Eastern Conference Finals.

This would be one of the worst max deals ever. I’m just not sure why this would happen. Imagine trying to sell a Brook Lopez max contract to Orlando.

its funny, first hibbert is overpaid now lopez. i guess the nets overlook the fact that lopez cant grab a rebound for anything and his defense is sup par at best. theres no way you can win a championship with lopez as your center who yes has offensive talent but it does NOT make up for his lack of defensive capabilities. the nets have taken on joe johnson’s horrible contract, and then an extension with Gerald Wallace, leaving them little flexibility and they are going to find it tough for any other team to be stupid enough to take on these contracts once they realize what a mistake they’ve made with the current players they’ve signed. the nets just love mediocrity and the city change really didnt change much.

Lopez is really not that good…he came onto the scene looking good but since then he has regressed. He is a 7 footer that averaged 6 boards a game 2 years ago and in the 5 games he played this last season he mananged to score 19 a game but grabbed an embarassing 3.6 rebounds per game…I know Humprhies was gobbling some of them up and it is only a 5 game sample size but that is still terrible…Orlando is better off letting Dwight walk then signing Lopez to a max deal.

If Orlando agreed to a trade last year for an expiring Brook Lopez, while taking more losses to get into the lottery, I would have been more okay with it than now. I can’t see any reason a team looking to trade a superstar and rebuild would take on an above average center on a five year max contract. Takes away a lot of flexibility with the cap.

It’s not a horrible contra t when the Owner has Billions on top of Billions.  Take in account the money he has,w money he makes from owning the Nets and the money he makes from other businesses and you’re talking about him paying the equivalent to me and you having a good job and paying 100 dollars a month for something.

The bad thing about this for Howard is if Lopez signs the contract he can not be traded till December
