NCAA Tournament Thread
Since we did the same thing last year, I thought we should have a thread to discuss whatever games people may be watching since they are all on different stations and whatnot. I'm surprised no one has started one. All games are welcomed! lol
yeah i logged on and thought for sure ther eowuld be a thread already for all the games like last years.
I'm 9-3 right now. 2 of the 4 playing now I have winning. Overall not too great or bad.
I'm 10-2, but three of my current teams are losing by double digits.
Mizzou and St. Johns are about to mess my 1st round up. I haven't watched Gonzaga since the nonconference slate when they played OK State, but they've obviously got better. I saw an NIT team when they played back then. I was never a fan of St. John's, especially with Kennedy out, but I expected them to beat the Gonzaga that I expected to take the floor.
Mizzou on the other hand I thought would wreak havoc on Cincy, who has mediocre guards. But Mizzou hasn't been as scary with their press as in the past 2 seasons, and they are more offense-oriented than they used to be. They were a boom-or-bust team no matter what, but since they don't defend anymore they are very beatable.
malcolm lee has locked up kalin lucas
Yeah I had Saint Johns and Mizzou too. Not doing well for me.
I got the ODU and Louisville games wrong.
L-Ville was in my Final Four :(
I'm 11-1 right now, and I picked UCLA, Gonzaga, Kansas State, and Cincy to win today. So I've done good so far, but Louisville hurt me a little since I picked them to go to the Sweet Sixteen.
What I've seen so far:
If a team matches up with Jimmer and gets a long guy who makes it a point to lock down and make him inefficient (he'll get his points no matter what), then BYU will leave. I'm not sure Gonzaga has that kind of defender though, unless Demetri Goodson is the pest.
Ashton Gibbs out at Pitt is CASH as a shooter. My heart literally drops when he misses shots.
Kemba Walker might be able to will UConn to the Final 4 like Vince Young did with Texas in football. He has some refuse to lose in him.
Taylor Battle is probably one of the 2 most underrated players in the nation. He is fearless as a shooter and aggressive, with nice quickness to match.
Michigan State's top players have been playing like their too good for college all season. They continue to struggle against a UCLA team that isn't even more than mediocre on D.
Florida has ALOT of weapons offensively, but Chandler Parsons might be the most pure talent on the wing in the country. He can do a bit of everything, and he has a sweet shooting stroke and great passing ability. He's not polished all the way, and he's not really tough or strong, but he has big upside, even for a Sr.
Richmond's Kevin Anderson has been good, even in HS here in GA. He made some big shots for them in their win over Vanderbilt.
John Jenkins has a pure jumper, but Vanderbilt doesn't rebound. And they lost because of it.
Butler refuses to lose. They have marginal talent, but they don't lose.
Kentucky has alot of raw talent, but they don't really play unselfishly. Jones, Lamb and Knight sometimes get tunnel vision. I have them losing in the 2nd round after barely beating Princeton today.
Morehead and Louisville was the best game of the day. Faried has nice hustle player potential. This was my 1st time watching him this year, and he's a GREAT rebounder who's always around the ball.
if ucla blows this im gonna dissapear for a while.
Here comes Missouri!
Kim English has disappointed me. I expected him to break out this year, and I even went as far as to say he'd be a 2011 1st round pick prior to the season. He's not as good when he doesn't have the freedom to shoot whatever mid-range shot he pleases. Coach Anderson obviously told him not to take as many bad shots, and he has been less effective this year
Crap, Missouri and Michigan State are making a comeback.
As my high school PE teacher would always say; Comeback City!
OK wake up now Jacob Pullen! Times like this are when we need you to do that thing you do where you make every shot!
Miss a bloody free throw, UCLA!
well there are your missed ft's ron swanson
Now miss a few more please.
wow, cant make a ft, that 1-6 from the line in the last minute for ucla.
Turn the ball over...
4.4 seconds left. UCLA killing any good feelings i had.
I need this!! Damn u Honeycutt and your deron Williams like hair!
yessss!!! thank you
This is less than ideal.
UCLA, please beat Florida.
Someone blow up that region.
UCLA has never struck me as a tough team. They aren't good on D, but against Florida they could win (I have them beating the Gators) because Florida also isn't a tough team either, and they have small guards (I think Lee's length could bother Boynton or Walker). That will be a high scoring game.
For some reason I feel like I shoulda put SDST in my final four
Yes!!! I'm 15-1 and ranked 318 on ESPN!
I'm 12-4. Damn.
SDSU doesn't have a prayer to make it to the Final Four.
Having to beat Connecticut then Duke/Texas. No chance.
I think they can beat UConn and definitely whoever between Texas/Oakland/Arizona/Memphis, but I have them losing to Duke in the Elite 8.
Texas up early in the 2nd half by 10.
Jordan Hamilton showing his smooth scoring ability. Really a nice offensive talent at all 3 levels on the floor. Not much of a defender though.
Tristan Thompson playing well, doing a great job defending and "out-toughing" Keith Benson. Also making jump hooks at the rim. He's like Ed Davis 2.0.
Corey Joseph works hard on D and has a decent shot, but he lacks great athleticism and he isn't an intimidator.
Keith Benson playing a bit timid, which is a bad sign for Oakland.
Reggie Hamilton is keeping Oakland in the game with his energy, quickness and shooting. Sometimes he is a bit wild though.
Tennessee sturggling against Michigan, despite having more talent, physical ability and skilled players.
Melvin Goins is quick, athletic and strong, but he continues to be one of the wildest PG's I've seen this year.
Scotty Hopson is a good scorer, but he's not a leader.
Tobias Harris is solid and mature, but he's not a guy who will carry a team.
Darius Morris is impressive. He looks great slashing to the rim.
Michigan up 9 early in the 2nd half.
Akron sticking with Notre Dame early..
Zeke Marshall is huge, not very good offensively, but hes huge.
Michigan beats Tennesse by 30.
I wonder where Bruce Pearl lands. He's an amazing coach. Just had a rough year.
i now have two loses :( mizzu and tenn.
Tenn is a weird team to figure out. They lost to teams they should have beaten plenty of times and guys just don't step up. Tobias is there only constant player. Love the write up yahoo sports did on him about how he's there before everyone at practice and is always serious while his teammates goof around
I got the whole southeast right so far George Mason isnt looking good but as of now I got 15 of 18 right
"Tobias Harris is solid and mature, but he's not a guy who will carry a team."
Harris has been great for a freshman, but he probably needs to polish his perimeter skills and be able to play some 3 in the NBA. He is college big, not NBA big.
His father was a sports agent and like a month ago said that he has Tobias on a two-year plan to get to the NBA lottery. I wonder if the Vols fire Pearl whether that might change.
Yeah Harris has to develop his post game more or get better from the perimeter for sure. Right now he's a true tweener.
Tennessee collapsed really bad. I think Pearl's future was on their minds and they lacked focus. I'm sorry, but I don't see Michigan and their methodical style as a team that can beat any team in the tourny by 30 just by outplaying them. Tennessee wasn't focused.
Villanova vs. George Mason is a decent game. Villanova making GMU take tough shots for the most part, and they aren't settling for contested jump shots by Fisher and Wayns as much.
Fisher isn't a great prospect though, he's a bit wild and he plays a below the rim power game that I'm not sold will translate.
Wayns has GREAT strength and jets, but he pulls up from mid-range more than he should. He should be getting more looks at the rim than he does.
Dominic Cheek, aka T.I.'s little brother, plays bad D for Villanova when I watch them play. He's got a little talent offensively, but he either fouls or gives up baskets on D when he's in the game. Seems like an experience thing though.
Perfect these days since it seems like everyone in the NBA is a tweener..lol.
Kyle Singler is struggling to say the least
He's not a real mismatch though. He's a tweener, so unless he gets better from the perimeter or low post he won't be that effective.
Corey Fisher looking like the guy who struggled in the last 10 games or so right now. Playing wild, dribbling too much like always. He's not a PG at all.
yeah kyle needs to get better at both
Tobias is another who could do alot of what Al Harrigton does when he gets everything together
Does anybody else hate Lenny Elmore
Tobias Harris is such a tweener. Wouldn't touch him in the 1st round.
Man! Villanova waited until the last minute to fold...George Mason up by 2 with 55 seconds left.
Wooooo lets go GM!!!!
Proud to be apart of the CAA!!!! Congrats to Mason!!!!!
