Ahkasi ClayParticipantNBA TV is doing a Past Draft marathon today!

MagikKnickParticipantCrazy to hear them talk about Olwuakandi so posititevely…

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIts funny how back then alot of teams thought Kobe had the most potential ,but were afraid to take that GAMBLE….
They just showed the 1996 draft, i think anyone of the 1st six picks of that draft could’ve been number 1 this year….

MagikKnickParticipantPoor Rashard Lewis…

JNixonParticipantThe 76ers could’ve had Paul Pierce but they took Larry Hughes over him. Hughes didn’t live up to his potential until he went to the Wizards, and even though he was a solid player Pierce would’ve solidified the SG/SF spot for over 10 years in Philly!

WizardofOzParticipantI remember when I was watching the 2003 Draft last year on NBA TV, and I can still remember Jay Bilas calling Drako a FREAK! And he said that Darko would’ve been the #1 pick in any other draft. LMAO!!!

akhan786ParticipantI’m watching the 2001 Draft and seeing Kwame Brown at the draft just baffles me at how much a bust he became.
He looks like he has all of the physical tools to become Dwight Howard before Dwight Howard.
Dreamers will dream.

JNixonParticipantThe difference is Kwame Brown has the hands of a 12 year old girl.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWatching this draft and seeing how well they speak about Kwame, you almost expect him to be a multiple time All-Star by now.
But remember,

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantLMAO at Eddy Curry laughing at Charles Barkely’s conditioning!

scoutguruParticipantRemember when Jay Bilas said Josh Smith had the best to be a bust outta that draft… Can’t really blame him. When you just see a raw athlete with such a low skill level, coming outta the high school ranks nonetheless…and combine that with the fact that every year there’s a bust in the draft, so he tried to make a call on it and he was wrong. But that’s not due to a poor evaluation, thats because of how hard Josh worked on his game and has gorten better every year and his a high level starter now.
I bring this up cause a friend of mine who’s a casual fan, always says how Jay is stupid and doesn’t know anything, and I just want to disprove that point in that scenario.

apb540ParticipantLooking back at what my Sixdogs did in those two drafts makes me want to walk into oncoming traffic. Van Horn over Chauncey and Larry Hughes, Larry fucking Hughes, over two HOFers in Dirk and Paul Pierce.

goneParticipantI think Jordan is to blame for Kwame Brown for being a complete bust. Kwame could have been a solid starting center but the pressure of Jordan being on his back so much destroyed his confidence. Jordan did the same thing to the rookie the bulls drafted after he retired the second time (cant remember his name)
Fun Fact: When the Wizards traded Kwame for Caron the Lakers wanted the wiz’s 2010 draft pick unprotected. Just think the lakers couldve had john wall

aamir543ParticipantI dont have nba tv, but my cousins house did, and I was wathcing the 2001 NBA draft. Things I noticed… Ernie Johnson looked waaaaaaay different… if you didn’t tell me what year it was from, and you paused on Kenny Smith’s face, I would say that it was from this year… What the f*** is up with Charles Barkley’s voice. He sounds so squeaky, its annoying… Eddy Curry never looked like he wanted to play, he looked like he wanted to go to sleep… Stealing a line from Bill Simmons, Joe Dumars is hit or miss… if Joe Johnson had stayed in Boston, and Antoine Walker could have kpet his prime for one more year, then Boston would be in contention the year they had Gary Payton at point… Atlanta continued going down the ladder, as they made a pretty bad trade… Did Ernie really say Pau Gasol played the 3 in Spain?… David Stern changed the rule about having to go to college because i think he felt intmidated by being up there shaking hands with kids 40 years younger than him and almost 2 feet taller than him.

I thought it was Doug Collins that killed Kwame’s career.
I read somewhere that Collins was VERY hard on the kid and pushed him until he broke him. I read it in an article or a thread. I’ll try to find it

Ahkasi ClayParticipantAre they going to reapeat, or have different years tomorrow?
I would love to see some more!!
Loved the Hat trade between Jamison and Carter, forgot all about them being interviewed together, at the time their trade was announced!

scoutguruParticipantWatching these old drafts got me thinking like damn, I miss the good ol days of guys coming into the league after accomplished collegiate careers. Don’t get me wrong, there were still busts obviously, but a lot of the guessing game thats played now, wasn’t there before. Guys like Kyrie Irving would never even think about coming out after missing all those games and after one year. Guys like Hassan Whiteside, Deandre Jordan, BJ Mullens who came out after being so underdeveloped and after not accomplishing much, is real tough to watch. The way I look at it man, if Shaq and Duncan can spend THREE and FOUR years respectively in school, then everyone can stand to stay in school.

cward23ParticipantI knew Bilas was wrong when he talked about Josh Smith. Remember saying ” Jay you’re a dummy if you think this kid is gonna be a bust”. Josh worked hard like most player but he pretty much got better just by playing more and practice. Bilas was just completely wrong on that one based on nothing.
Watching Gary Payton get drafted number 2 in the 90 draft.
Just think back then top players played in the predraft camps against each other and they even had a one on one competition ( Bo Kimble beat out Payton for the one on one title)

MagikKnickParticipant2001 is on right now…
They were talking about Kwame so well, compared him to Webber/Garnett, and Barkley said "hes the most NBA ready prospect in this draft right now"
Teams wanted to trade up to get Eddy Curry, aaaaahhh, this is comical to me

cward23ParticipantJay Bilas ” If it wasn’t for LeBron Darko would have been the top pick and would be considered a top pick in the last 10 drafts, He is a freak athlete with range and a future star”
