Here is a breakdown of day 6 of the NBA Summer League.

Elfrid Payton – ​Payton nearly had a triple double in his second game of the summer. Today he almost had another triple double with 8 points, 10 ast, and 9 rebounds. If you count the 7 turnovers he almost had a quadruple double. Payton is going to be the classic rookie that is useful fantasy wise because he gets a lot of minutes. He will be highly inefficient but will be owned due to the fact he will put up lines like this. Any player that can put up 8 points, 10 ast, and 9 rebounds is a must own player no matter how inefficient they are. The line is not pretty but the assists are very valuable. 

Nick Johnson – This sounds like a bold statement but it’s really not. Johnson will be better than Shabazz Napier. Shabazz is 2 years older than Johnson and Johnson is already better than Shabazz with more upside. Today Jonson had 22 points, 6 reb, 6 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk.

I agree about Nick Johnson. The more I watched him the more you just appreciate his game. He’s gonna do everything well. I really think he should get solid sixth man minutes in Houston if they get rid of Lin. He’s gonna guard people, he is going to score and he will set people up better than Beverly. I think he and Russ Smith will be the biggest second round steals.

 I’ve always liked nick johnson, but he just seemed like an undersized shooting guard to me. He did handle the ball alot of the time but he never really looked to set his teammates up like a true point should. Maybe it’s cause  he was asked to play the 2 alongside tj McConnell and maybe asked to play more of a scoring role, but 16ppg isn’t eye catching but he did win poy in his conference. 

He does look to be a steal though and looks as if he could play the point guard position role right now. Houston doesn’t like lin and johnson is a superior player to Beverly but they may prefer to be in  him off the bench. Also he seems like a much better shooter than I gave him credit for. He has good lift and form on his jump shot.

He looks good in summer league that’s for sure. I didnt watch a ton of him in college but he’s more athletic than I thought Rockets may have go another second round gem
