slash787ParticipantHere is a breakdown of day one of the NBA summer league.
http://www.beforethescore.com/nba-summer-league-2014.html
Some of the surprise rookies were
NICK JOHNSON – DARYL MOREY GOT ANOTHER LATE DRAFT STEAL. JOHNSON WILL NOT LIKELY HAVE AN IMPACT THIS SEASON BECAUSE THE ROCKETS ARE CHASING A TITLE BUT HE WILL BE A D LEAGUE ALL STAR AND IS A MUST OWN DYNASTY PLAYER. A LINE OF 18 POINTS, 5 REB, 3 AST, 1 BLK, AND SOME ELECTRIFYING PLAYS SHOW THE FORMER PAC 10 PLAYER OF THE YEAR WAS WAY UNDER DRAFTED. GIVE ME JOHNSON OVER SHABAZZ IN A DYNASTY LEAGUE ALL DAY.
JORDAN ADAMS – I WON’T LIE. I WAS HATING ON JORDAN ADAMS AND MADE FUN OF SOMEONE I KNOW THAT DRAFTED HIM. WELL ONE SUMMER LEAGUE GAME IN I WILL ADMIT MY MISTAKE AND MOVE ON. ADAMS IS BETTER THAN I THOUGHT AND WAS THE BEST PLAYER ON THE FLOOR AGAINST THE THUNDER. THAT INCLUDES JEREMY LAMB. ADAMS DROPPED 22 POINTS, 4 STEALS, 3 AST, 3 REB, AND 1 BLK. THE GRIZZLIES NEED A SCORER AND IT LOOKS LIKE ADAMS CAN CARVE OUT A ROLE TO BRING SOME OFFENSE TO THE GRIZ. HE IS USELESS IN A SHALLOW ONE YEAR LEAGUE BUT IN A DYNASTY LEAGUE THAT IS DEEP HE IS WORTH A LOOK.
There is a full breakdown of each game. Obviously Nerlens looked like he was back, Olynyk and Plum sauce dominated, Oladipo was nice.0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/06/2014 - 4:29am #932394
OhCanada-ParticipantEverything Johnson was able to do at D-1 he should be able to do in the pros. He has elite athletisism, above average shooting, good length at 6’7, he is very tough, quick first step, and most of all he owns a tenacious mentality and is constantly in attack mode. Should be a great backup PG/combo gaurd and I think he fits well in Houston as a complimentary piece to replace Beverly off the bench.

Cardinal_FanParticipantIts laughable to say Shabazz sucks after 1 summer league game. There are very few rookie that come in and just completely tear it up in their summer league debut. I bet he gets better as the schedule progresses.

JoeWolf1I think Jordan Adams could be the ultimate test of analytics…
A shooting guard who tested a shade better than ESPN anchor and 40 something, Andy Katz , but who’s Hollinger rating is among the best.
I’m curious to follow his career, if he is indeed a diamond in the rough, then I think it’s a testiment to the accuracy of basketball’s version of "moneyball." He had a hell of a SL debuit.

slash787ParticipantI agree. As I said I was down on the Adams as much as anyone. Then he comes out and lights it up. Obviously it’s only one game but there are some players you just need to see once and you can say ya I am wrong he can play. I did the same thing for Steven Adams. I figured he wouldn’t be very good and after I saw him play once I said well he is an NBA player.

celtics1982ParticipantI also agree. I remember thinking Anderson was the hardest player to grade, then I got to Adams. The classic debate of the eye test and number debate. He doesn’t look the part, but he just puts up numbers.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantI wouldn’t count anyone out after 1 bad game, I’m also not jumping on anybody’s bandwagon either.
Let’s watch these guys grow over the next few weeks…

RUDEBOY_Participantnapier’s shots werent falling and flip pressey made him look bad on that nasty crossover….but its too early to count out shabazz…even though i think after that great tourney performance, some might have him higher than he should be…
he’s going to be a solid player,he only needs to get comfortable on the floor and use to playing with this set of players..he’s going to get better as the week goes on…it seems like he has picked up the team’s system….

Cardinal_FanParticipantBelow is his review on Shabazz that was in in the link, thats what i was referring to….SHABAZZ NAPIER – WELL HE SUCKED. LEBRON JAMES IS THE NEXT MICHAEL JORDAN. BOTH SUCK AT EVALUATING TALENT. SHABAZZ SCORED 12 POINTS ON 3-15 SHOOTING. OUCH. OH AND HE HAD 8 TURN OVERS. OUCH. SHABAZZ IS THE CLASSIC BIG NAME COLLEGE PLAYER THAT DOES NOT SUCCEED IN THE NBA. IF YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN A ROOKIE ONLY DRAFT PLEASE DON’T BE THAT GUY NAMED LARRY IN YOUR LEAGUE THAT TAKES HIM. HE’S A FOOL AND SO ARE YOU IF YOU TAKE HIM.
MIKE MOSER – THE UN-DRAFTED FORWARD OUT OF OREGON HAD A GREAT GAME. HE DROPPED 17 POINTS AND SHOWED HE CAN BE A STRETCH 4. HE WILL LIKELY SPEND MOST OF THE YEAR IN THE D-LEAGUE AND PUT UP NICE NUMBERS.

OhCanada-ParticipantSmart is going to be a monster. He is very physical and is defenitely a game changer. Shot will be fine but dont expect good percentages this year. He is very creative in creating passing lanes as well.
Shabazz Napier looked like a NBA role player. He struggled creating his own shot and looked alot better in the fourth when he let the game come to him. When the offence had some flow he found his spots on the court to take open shits. He will be a good floor general and role player but I dont expect any Allstar votes. Reminds me of a less strong Jarret Jack with morw quickness.
James Ennis showed why alot of posters on this site have been raving about him. He has great perimeter skills and looks about 6’8-6’9 with good size for the 3-position. The announcers kept saying James Ennis is "Rileys guy". Seems like they found a gem there.
Tyler Honeycutt also played on Miamis SL. He was extremely active as he played more of a forward position then SF. He had limited minutes but showed he can be a good pickup for a team needing some energy in the lineup.
Kelly Olynyk once again seems to have improved his quickness and overall athletisism. Looks stronger too. He is on my shortlist for Most Improved this year. Played great scoring from everywhere and rebounding well.
Mike Moser scored 17 points and showcased his potential abillity at PF if a team wanted to go small. Good shooting range knocking down 3-3pointers. Versatile with 3-assists.
Davis Bertans showed he can stretch the floor and shoot with the best with them.

MattP31ParticipantI watched the whole game and Marble was good but I wouldn’t go as far as saying that he was the best player in the league yesterday when he wasn’t the best player on his own team(Oladipo)
