valentineIs anyone interested in helping me get accurate ratings and rosters for NBA 2K12? I want the rankings to be realistic and the players potential rating to be realistic.
In 2K11, the potential ratings were way off. I just want a realistic game, and with the new historic players, I want to be able to put them into the Association, and
see what there stats would be against today’s players. Here is what I have in mind.Michael Jordan
Wilt Chamberlain

DurantsWingspanI mean more potential to raise points in his overal ranking. At 86, Blake Griffin can not go up all that may points. 10 points and he would be best in the league. At a 60, if Tyler went up 10 points, it really wouldn’t even make him a solid starter. I think of potential for the game as how much a player’s rating can go up, because that is what makes it realistic for Association mode, but I see where you are coming from because Griffin does have more potential then Tyler. That is why Bismack has a high, high potential rating. He is also low. And I think potential goes down significantly each year as well. Griffin when he was a rookie before his injury I would say it was like a 98 and the next year like a 94 and this year a 90. And like John Wall 97 last year and 92 this year.

DurantsWingspanIf a few people want to do this with me, we can all say our opinions on a players rating and then average it out to get an unbiased opinion. It would work good to for uploading draft classes because we can all have a rating system on what we think players ratings will be when they are rookies. Maybe all the way up to Stephen Zimmerman’s class, atleast a few players from it to make it realistic. Maybe five to ten.
For instance:
Andre Drummond
Rating: 77
Potential:97
Shabazz Muhammad:
Rating: 77
Potential: 97
Jabari Parker
Rating: 76
Potential: 96
Andrew Wiggins
Rating: 75
Potential: 98
Stephen Zimmerman
Rating: 75
Potential: 96

mikeyvthedonParticipantIn past years of games, I actually find that if you find the right balance of where you project a player to go, as far as potential, than 2k does a great job. The thing with potential ratings in the game, is that they effect how a players career plays out. Hence, older players still have very high potential. Once a player gets to a certain age, they will still decline regardless, potential is more so effecting how good a player can become and the production hence forth.
Here are the rankings from last year, if you were to start an Association without changing any of the ratings (Living Rosters, as of when I made the post):
http://www.nbadraft.net/forum/how-nba2k11-rates-nba
Outside of Dirk Nowitzki being 22nd and Pau Gasol being 10th, they are really not that bad. The ratings you gave are not horrible, but your potential ratings are. You can dip them slightly, but realize that if Kobe or Dirk has a 99 in potential, it does not mean they are getting better, it just shows how their careers will progress. Same goes for every other player. It is why Shaq still had a 99 potential.
The cool thing about 2k11, that I find different from Live, is that they explain what every rating represents. I think a lot of people miss out on these descriptions, thus thinking the rating is ridiculous. I wish that there was an easier way of seeing the average ratings per position, maybe even having templates that show a positions average rating while you are adjusting them. This would be incredibly helpful for draft classes, as I find a lot of people who tend to create them have no real concept of where a player ranks in this category amongst position.
My bottom line is, the reason most of your ratings seem kind of crazy is that they lack the concept of what potential actually does to players. If you play an Association, the odds are that players potential ratings go up, I guess that is done through the off-season camps that are probably not visible to you. I also have found that if a player is given a certain amount of potential, the odds are, they will peak at that level (if John Wall stays at 92, he will not get past a 92, if that, unless his potential rises). So, Biyombo, a 99, is insane. Yes, he more than likely will not become a 99, but he is not going to rise at that rate.
What I have tried to do was form templates and averages for players. This was a long, boring process and a general waste of a few days. I am pretty much sorry I did it, but if you want it to be "realistic", than having a bunch of guys in this years draft class have potential above 90 would not be a way to do it. 2k luckily realizes that a players "potential", is not strictly based on age, but on where and in what way a player will develop. So, if you are indeed trying to make the game as realistic as possible, really read the descriptions and take into the averages per position of each rating. If you use the ratings you have suggested, the odds of the game being "realistic", decrease dramatically.

If you use the ratings you have suggested, the odds of the game being "realistic", decrease dramatically.

mikeyvthedonParticipantIn past years of games, I actually find that if you find the right balance of where you project a player to go, as far as potential, than 2k does a great job.

Jayhawks2011Participanti’m pretty sure potential is the best ability a player can get to. for instance if you are a 80 and have a 90 potential the best you can be is a 90. so if you are above like a 95 and your potential is 85 in a few years you will start to regress towards and 85

torontoraptors10ParticipantBismack Biyombo has a 99 potential? In NBA 2K11, I’ve drafted similar players in my association (from the downloadable drafts) and they would usually get 4ppg but like 12rpg. I think he is going to turn out like one of those players in NBA 2K12
