NBA Outdoor Games
the NBA used to Play one Preseaon game every year outside in palm springs, ever since I "retired" and moved away i am not sure if they did it last year or not.
It is very cool to look up and be able to see the moon in the middle of the game!
They had some games outside in the summer league a few years back. It was really cool! It gave a more pickup game feel to it, I liked it. The sun and wind can be an issue but its one game, I think it would be great for fans and a great overall event.
Iv'e thought about this as well. The playground scene is a pillar of basketball... I think an outdoor game would be a great way to tribute this other side of the game.
The issue with the outdoor games is that the venues would be limited. They could only do it in high-climate cities where there's rarely any rain, sleet, snow, winds, etc. The weather does effect the game, hence the reason professional basketball is indoors.
the venues wouldn't be that limited because you can do it in the baseball and football fields. And yeah wind can effect the game but think about the scene in white man can't jump where woody tells Wesley the winds picking up a bit. Just shoot it to the left a little.
I remember the Warriors and Suns played outdoors in a preseason game about 3-4 years ago, it was crazy, too much wind, 30% shooting......but it was pretty cool, lol. I wouldn't mind one game a year, but I'm pretty sure the players would be pissed.
It would be good for an exhibition game in pre-season but not really a regular season game unless you risked one in later regular season perhaps but then you have the play off equation.
The NBA should host an Allstar weekend outside! That would be the time to do it. There are issues with wind and sun but the allstar game doesn't really matter as it is for the fans (mostly). Its mostly fun and games so why not?
I enjoyed watching the carrier classic. Would be cool if NBA did a few games in some outdoor venues.
Have a game on a Battleship ala UNC vs Mich State

I think it would be really cool to see a couple games be played outdoors every year. Even just one game a year would be great, like the Winter Classic. I understand weather could be an issue though it would just be cool to see.
