Both are clearly making Billions so take money out of the equation….but which organisation is putting out a better product?

    Use any criteria you like.

Who’s season are you more invested in?

What is the ‘storyline’ that keeps you coming back for more?

Who has more exciting players and matchups?

I’ve always liked college basketball more than NBA.  This is just my opinion and I’m sure there are people on here that love the NBA and hate college so it’s okay to disagree with me.  I remember reading an article, I don’t remember where but it was a good article as to why college is better than the NBA.  One thing I remember the article talking about was comparison of the arenas. The NBA has corporate arenas, like the Air Canada Center, American Airlines Arena, and the United Center.  College has Cameron Indoor, the Dean Dome, Phog Allen Field House and Rupp Arena.  The NBA has luxury suites, pumped up dance music and fairweather fans whp show up to the games at halftime.  Most NBA arenas are half empty the entire season.  College has student bands, kids at courtside screaming their head off and guys camping out for days on end to see their favorite rivalry games.  I believe college has more exciting players and matchups.  Duke-Carolina, Oklahoma-Kansas triple overtime game this year.  The NBA has…..Cleveland-Golden State.

I know people will say the one-and-done era has killed college basketball and I understand that.  I know people believe college guys should be paid and that the NCAA corporation is a joke and I agree with that to some extent also.  College basketball has seen it’s share of scandals recently with Carolina and it’s academic scandal, Rick Pitino at Louisville and of course a lot of people think Cal pays guys to come to Kentucky.  I understand college basketball has lost a lot of it’s luster recently.  I still believe in the purity of the college game as a whole.  Great coaches like Calipari, Coach K, Bill Self, Roy Williams and Jim Boheim who returns this weekend patrol the college sidelines.

Are there issues within the college game?  Of course there are.  College basketball is more fun to watch also in my opinion.  There is more ball movement and teamwork than there is in the NBA.  The NBA employs a lot of one on one throwing the ball into a guy as his four teammates stand around and watch him.  I love march madness, the brackets, the trash-talking between fans of different schools and the passion that college basketball is.  I know college basketball has been through a rough patch, but I will always pick college over the NBA.

NBA. The one and done practice has ruined the NCAA for me… I used to watch NCAA because I enjoyed watching guys fight it out over their four years in school, but it has turned into a spiral where schools garner up players that really don’t have a reason to be in college other than play basketball for a year. The practice has turned it into a constant ‘David versus Goliath’ scenario where there really isn’t any balance. Don’t be too harsh on me here, it’s just my opinion, call me disenchanted… Just let people get drafted out of high school so they don’t have to fake college for a year and the problem would go away..

Worth mentioning too that the NBA will always have the extra shine on it that ‘these are the best of the best’ that will keep me coming back.

The one and done era has really helped college basketball in my opinion. It really adds a extra sense of excitement when your school lands those types of players even if it is just for a year.

the one and doneera especially helps the nba. Even that one year of college does a ton to help develop these kids and give the teams a better idea of what they are getting with their pick. I shudder at the memories of the straight from highschool days. And no KG, Lebron and kobe were not the norms.

Shelled out a pretty big penny the other night to take myself and my son to the Wizards and Cavs game to see Lebron. From an entertainment standpoint it was good.. Lebron got rolling.. Kyrie got rolling dribble moves and all.. and IN the middle of the crowd fired up as the Wizards made a come back My son looks at me and says" I still like College hoops better" And i agree…No matter what the names on the back. for teams like UNC and DUKES its always about the name on the front of the Jersey..Something about playing hard and playing more for your team then yourself.

Give me UNC vs DUKE tickets over NBA Game 7 Finals tickets  anyday

Speaking of UNC vs Duke tickets, I shelled out and got my old man and I some tickets for Christmas this year.  It has been a childhood dream of mine, and I agree, wouldn’t trade them for any tickets in the world.

Give me college ball 10 out of 10 times.  There is nothing like being in NC during March.

College basketball is a niche sport.  A cult classic.  The NBA is a well-oiled circus.

The NBA has THE STARS.  Probably better marketing.  I mean, their top guys are GLOBAL ICONS.

But, I think that college basketball has a better business model.  March Madness is AWESOME.  The Final Four is a little gimmicky but it works.  Good in person, good on TV.  Great history.  The COACHES are the STARS and you get them for 25 or 30 years, unlike NBA pros where you get them for 10-15 years TOPS (ok, maybe not Kobe and Duncan).  The kids play for free.

I ACTUALLY think the top basketball franchises are Duke and Kentucky.  By far, more elite than the other programs.   The coaching is there.  They are basketball factories.

In terms of fans, college basketball has a built-in fan base: college students and alumni.  Each year the potential fan base grows like clock-work.

The college basketball season is the perfect length.  Not too many games, but enough to figure out who the BEST teams are.

Then, the conference tournaments, March Madness, and the Final Four are the best events in sports.

In terms of scale, college basketball wins.  Only 30 NBA teams.  68 college teams make the tourney every year.  34 teams win at least one game.

Also, the NBA depends more on superstars to carry the league.  College basketball does not.

A fun thing about sports is watching the young stars play.  In basketball right now, the Knicks have Porzingas, and there are some other really, really good NBA rookies right now, but Ben Simmons is THE top young superstar in basketball if you really think about it.

The way that the NCAA game is officiated this year is trash.  They’re handcuffing these kids defensively in the name of "freedom of movement."

I can’t count how many times a player has gotten a quick 2 for innocuous plays in the first half and is forced to sit for an extended period of time, often times the rest of the first half.  It’s not like the coaches completely distrust their players to commit another foul, but rather, they distrust that the refs might call another BS foul.  There is NO consideration for the defender when the offensive player creates the contact.  There is no incentive for a player to NOT put his head down and barrel into a defender or ride him into the paint, bc there likely will be a foul called. Also they sought to eliminatte bumping of cutters, which has been a defensive tactic since the beginning of the game.  The defense is just supposed to allow the cutter to go wherever he wants to go without re-routing him at all?  That’s stupid.  So is seeking to eliminate the physical battles in the post.  College big man defenders are lucky that kids these days are inept in the post bc the defense is at a huge disadvantage.

The defensive end is neutered in order to give the false impression that the scoring is up and to me it creates a garbage, unbalanced game.  A lot of these kids who are legit NBA prospects are done a disservice as well bc they’ll eventually have to relearn how to play defense, among other things, like fighting for position in the post.

If I ever got as hold of Duke-Caroloina tickets, I wouldn’t trade them for any other sporting event on the planet, not even the Super Bowl.  Hope to one day get lucky and score some of those.

Traveling to March Madness games is ridiculously fun especially if your team wins both games.

One year the opening rounds were in New Orleans during St. Patrick’s Day Weekend.  Awesome!  Seeing half our front line on Bourbon St. was fun too.

One year we went but we lost the first game.  Obviously it wasn’t as fun but it was still a really good trip.

Compare this to ESPN having to give advertisers some money back due to lackluster ratings for their NYE games.

only thing that would top it would be a mid-season college basketball All Star game, dunk contest, 3 point shoot out, and Rookie Game.  Ok, that would break the universe!

We have to get on this College Basketball All Star Game!
