A few thoughts on the NBA Combine so far in terms of Centres.

Dewayne Dedman: Had never previously heard of him before the combine, but from what i have seen so far, he looks like he could be a steal in the draft. I dont think he had impressed enough to be taken in the first round with the amount of other Centres that will be taken, but he could end up being a decent back up centre in the league for a long time.

Steven Adams: Ha, i knew it. Everyone has been giving him grief about his shooting, but from knowing him personally, watching training’s, games and from what we have seen today, he is actually a great shooter (in practise so far, we would have to wait for the summer league to really see what he’s like in full intensity games) Chad Ford and the other analysts have been very impressed with his stroke and his athleticism so far today, this could see him being taken higher in the draft, thoughts?

Rudy Gobert: Insane length, nice stroke, decent athleticism for someone his size! I can see him being a starter in the league, at worse, having a long career as a backup for a playoff team. I think he would be more suited at the 4, but if he fills out a bit more then i think he could play the 5 and defend some of the more dominant post players in the league. I am still not completely sold on him being taken in the lottery, but I think he could be taken between 16-22.

What do you guys think? Will add some more later on today!

I was looking up the center prospects in the second round and I looked at Dwayne Dedman some. He sounds promising. A guy with legit skills as a big man off the bench. He would be very good for the Grizzlies especially at 55 or 60. Can’t say that I know much about him though.

I am guessing we will be working out a bunch of players. Backup center is our biggest need I think, especially a center who can block shots and play above the rim.

There are actually a lot of good (even very good, but maybe not GREAT) centers in the league, but not that many good backups. If we could get a good one, I would be thrilled.

This may be a draft devoid of “names” but there are some big dudes. There will be a lot more size and length in the NBA next year.

I think teams in contention, like Memphis or San Antonio, or even the Thunder at 12 (more so in the second round) need to look at going BIG. Interior defense is so important these days with the amount of speed, and skill out there. You have to slow teams down.

Ive always thought Dedman was terrific second round value, and Ive recently became enamored with Gobert. I will like for him to fall to Atlanta, but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Dallas takes him at #12. Hes like Chandler, with better offensive game, when he was coming in.

I really hope Adams does well, would be awesome to see a New Zealander in the NBA and being a main piece. No offense to Shawn Marks, but I would prefer he wasn’t the best player to ever come from NZ.
