Lebron’s HairlineParticipantI don’t know how i feel about this, Deron Williams sucks bad this season, Joe Johnson has been inconsistent, they allow teams to kill them on the inside look at how Boston who is not a good paint team ate them on Christmas Day. Lets hope the nets can rebound in the future. I wonder if Deron played a part in this

Wavy BagelsParticipantI wouldn’t be surprised.

TallmanNYCParticipantYeah, but it is Avery Johnson who decided not to play Reggie Evans for more than token minutes. So he didn’t have to allow the Nets to get killed on the boards. He has the personnel to prevent that. Heck, Lopez and Blatche can play together at the same time. It is actually allowed. Avery refuses to go big.

Wavy BagelsParticipantThis firing was way too early. The Nets were winning before Brook Lopez got hurt, and their backcourt (D-Will and Joe) have not been shooting the ball well. The only thing I blame Avery for is his lack of halfcourt plays and bad rotations, which were still decent at best. I think this all points to SVG getting the job now. Hewould have a big man in Lopez to work with and shooters to compliment him (Brooks, Joe, Stack, Teletovic) in orderr to run that offense he had in Orlando a few years back. Just a thought, though.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantAvery had lost the respect of the veteran players..It seem like every week someone different was in his doghouse, including D Will……And once that happened,D Will started complaining about Avery’s game plan….Williams was right, becuz it seemed like they didnt know their roles and didnt have any chemistry…..You kind of figured things werent going right, when the only player Avery was getting along with was ”Blatche”’?

JNixonParticipantDeron Williams really might be the reason Johnson got fired. He’s been playin turrible recently

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantThe Nets have a really manageable schedule coming up where a new coach might look really smart with nothing really changing.
Charlotte, Cleveland, @ San Antonio, @ OKC, @ Washington, Sacramento, @ Philadelphia, Phoenix, Indiana, Toronto, @ Atlanta, Atlanta
Now, my guess is that Deron Williams wants someone who will allow them to get up and down more, and it stands to reason that a great point guard would want more opportunities and freedom. It might help, but it depends on whether they bring in a new coach (or interim PJ) who lets Deron pick up the pace.

Wavy BagelsParticipantWelp…According to sources, SVG is not interested in the job

ilike.panochasParticipantThe expectations for this Nets team is just way too high, considering they did not make the playoffs last year and the only key addition they made was Joe Johnson (who has been passed his prime for about 2 years now). This is essentially the same team last year, with a different logo and city.

TallmanNYCParticipantBrook Lopez played five games last season, Wallace played 16, and Blatche wasn’t on it (as well as most of the other role players). It is absolutely a completely different team. I think only Williams and Humphries got significant minutes last season and are playing on the team this season.
But I totally agree with you that expectations were way too high. And the team hasn’t been given much time to jell.

anthonymatthew24Participantbut he lost his players respect… I never liked the rotations he was using either, using guys such as Reggie Evans and Keith Bogans over Humphries and Brooks! Theres no way he was gonna get away with not playin such a great talent as Brooks .That was unexcusable… He wasnt a good fit for D-Will either cuz he would micro-manage the game, which is not nesesarry when u have one of the best PG’s in the league… He is pretty much a clone of Mike Brown… Defense no offense…

BasketballJunkie224Participanti dont think the expectations were too high, i mean i think by calling dwill and joe johnson the ‘best backcourt’ in the nba is a little overexagerated but i mean the nets looks very good on paper, i wouldnt be suprised if they grow and get a good seed in the playoffs
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/27/2012 - 2:42pm #735664
BasketballJunkie224Participantfiring avery johnson certainly didnt help tho, hes a good coach!

HitsterParticipantThese rich Russian owners don’t tend to hang around with changing coaches/managers if results don’t go there way but with SVG and Phil Jackson apparently not interested, I wonder where the Nets look from here Jerry Sloan would not seem likely given his history with D-Will and P.J Carlesimo is probably more a good senior assistant these days.
I could see the Nets maybe making another run at Phil Jackson with a huge offer but I doubt he’d want to uproute to NJ. I would personally figure they will look for a guy with proven NBA Head Coaching record so could maybe Mike Brown or Nate MacMillan be options?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/27/2012 - 3:18pm #735674
TallmanNYCParticipantGod if they go with Mike Brown that would be a mistake. That guy couldn’t get four hall of famers to figure out how to play. He won’t be a good fit with the Nets. But I do agree that the Nets have to stick with a head coach with experience. They are in “win now” mode. PJ might not just be the interim coach. We shall see.

aamir543ParticipantAvery Johnson is a great coach and deserves to be a coach somewhere, but he was not a good fit for this team. He is a defensive minded grind it out sort of guy, and although he was successful in coaching a fast paced Dallas team, he ideally likes to slow down the pace. This Brooklyn team doesn’t really have any one-on-one players other than Joe Johnson, and Deron Williams is a guy that thrives in a high pick and roll, and Gerald Wallace is guy who likes to drive off penetration from the other guys. I feel like more ball movement and movement off-the ball would help the team get some more rhythm offensively. They’re a really good team, they just need D-Will to get back to doing what he does best and they’ll be fine. If Jerry Sloan goes there to coach, than personally they’re my favorite for the third seed in the east.

aarondsonixfanParticipantWhat about hiring Nate McMillan as their head coach? I feel like he would be a really good fit for them
