Now I am a big Pacers fan and I really like Myles Turner, but I just don’t see him being a franchise level talent.
He is a really nice defensive player and I think his ability to block shots is his best attribute by far, but I truly see him as a solid 3rd option offensively and defensive anchor on a winning team. By that I mean 15-16ppg/9-10rpg and 2-3bpg on a solid winning team. I don’t see him hitting that KAT, Jokic, Porzingis level at anytime in his career, there is something just awkward about his play style.

Sabonis when he was out there although no where near the defensive player just offered more offensively as he would be more decisive with his roles to the basket, finishing strong with dunks, making fantastic passes and also reading the D taking those mid-range shots on offer (Really plays similar to Jokic in Denver)

Now I am not saying Sabonis is better, but I’m not ruling out the fact that he could become the better player and I really want to see them get time together because I believe Sabonis is more than mobile enough to guard most 4’s in the NBA.

Do you think this duo will work or do you see a Jokic/Nurkic situation coming?

Turner moves like he is running on stilts, very awkward style. Still though, he is a plus defender as you say. He can stretch the floor. He can’t create with the ball in his hands but same goes for a lot of bigs. Sabonis is a nice PF. He is not defending anyone but he can put himself in good spot for rebounds. He kinda reminds me of Saric. Less flashy but maybe the same skill level.

Turner and Sabonis are already one of the versatile frontcourts in the league from a offensive standpoint. Turner is only 21 yo of age while Sabonis is 20! Myles Turner is already a 20 10 threat.

 He may not be a KAT or KP but those guys was picked top 3 in their draft respectively while Turner and Sabonis slipped to the end of the lottery. But both are outperforming their draft position game by game. Turner is like Lamarcus Aldrige but actually plays D and Sabonis is like a PF version of Jokic. The pacers are in good hands going forward.

 I wouldn’t say Turner can’t be the focal point of an offense, remember he did just come back from a concussion after having an excellent debut. The concussion was more serious than a lot of people thought. He may have suffered an injury too. I think in time he’ll get back to what you would expect him to be, and let’s be honest, no one thinks he’s like Porzingis or Towns. 

I think the pairing of him and Sabonis will work but Sabonis isn’t a 3-point shooter and that’s what the Pacers mainly want out of their 4. So for now you will see the Pacers mainly use Thad Young, and Turner upfront, but I do expect plenty of playing time for Sabonis just not necessarily at the 4, he may be used at the 5 a lot as well. (once he is healthy of course) Sabonis will be used a lot with Turner but for now off the bench. Once Thad Young is either traded or he leaves the Pacers then you can expect the pairing of Turner and Sabonis released full-time. I wouldn’t say we have a future Jokic and Nurkic situation in Indy. Let time brew, we will see what happens when Thad Young is either traded or signs a contract elsewhere.

 Given Sabonis’ skill level I fully expect him to work on his 3-pt shot and I believe he will.

Guys like Vucevic, B.Lopez, Gasol’s have all learnt to extend their game from that mid-range to the 3-pt line so no reason Sabonis can’t do the same. I just don’t think that was his focus this season, he is proving he can play and deserves minutes, he has proven that so I expect him to stay adding things to his game.

 He can shoot the 3 and I believe he will get that skill level, but so far in his young career he hasn’t shown that ability yet. And the Pacers need that now, which is why they have leaned toward starting Thad Young with Turner instead of Sabonis. I do think he can get there, this is only his sophomore year, but asking him to shoot the 3 consitstantly, right now is not realistic. That kind of improvement comes in the offseason, when he has been with the team for more than just a couple months.That’s what I was saying. 

I am not a pessimistic fan, like so many people on this site seem to think. I am optimistic about young players, but I’m maturely optimistic. (If that makes sense) I’ve learned to curb my enthusiasm with young players because at the beginning they can be very inconsistent, and at times very frustrating to follow. 

Now, Sabonis has been consistant while Turner was out with a concussion and whatever apparent injury he had (2-3 weeks is a long time to recover from a concussion.) but he’s (Sabonis) shown that can score in bunches from midrange and inside the paint, but he hasn’t been able to extend his range beyond midrange yet. Do I believe he can get there?, yes, but he’s not there yet. The Pacers need it now, not in a year or 2, and thus Thad Young is starting. And don’t be suprised if Thad Young cntinues to start with Turner this entire season. But I don’t expect Sabonis’ production to taper off either. He will come off the bench, and will probably used as a 6th man this season, but don’t expect him to show he can shoot the 3 this very season. That will come later in like year 2 or 3 with the Pacers not in year 1.

However, let’s not forget that Dipo & Boner were in OKC for an entire year together Including Practice together on the 2nd team Every day.The point is let’s allow Turner to get a few months of practice time in w/ these new Indiana players & Turner will look will look Just as good on that P&R I bet!

I like Myles Turner a Lot ! Don’t forget that that MT just returned from a 10 game absence where he suffered a severe concusion

Embiid drafted 2014 & he Avg 20.3 Pts; 8.3 Reb, 2.4 Ast 48% FG%

KAT drafted in 2015 he Avg 21.7 Pts; 11.3 Reb; 2.2 Ast 54% FG%

Porzingus drafted in 2015 he Avg 17.2 Pts; 7.3 Reb; 1.4 Ast 44% FG%

M. Turner drafted in 2015 he Avg 12.8 Pts; 6.6 Reb; 1.0 Ast 50% FG%

Greek Freak drafted in 2013 he Avg 15.4 Pts; 7.0 Reb; 3.6 Ast 50% FG%

As you can see Myles Turner is right in the Mix w/ these recognized Big Time Bigs. I concede that Myles Turner does not look like a Super Star scoring threat but Turner can Really score & his scoring ability to Score is Perfect for the modern NBA. He is a Beast around the Rim, Very aggressive & an a Very good 3pt shooter! 

And outside of Embiid who statistically is at Rudy Gobert’s level, Myles Turner might be the 2nd best Rim protector after Embiid – Porzingus is excellent too so maybe put Myles in tie w/ Porzingus or right behind. But you get my Point, Turner is one hell of a Player!

I think that Turner and Sabonis are talented enough and young enough to be able to play in tandem long term. There are 96 frontcourt minutes so they haven’t got to be on court together all the time and getting the right complimentary bigs around them will be useful.

Both guys already have a good 3 point range and if guys in their late 20’s can develop a reliable 3 point range then these two 21 year olds are well ahead of the field.

Turner and Sabonis were both 11th picks so if either reaches superstar level it will be a bonus. The Pacers have often been a good collective team in recent years rather than having one superstar player and with Turner, Sabonis and Oladipo a similar scenario is again developing.
