OhCanada-ParticipantWho are some early candidates for MVP? The usuals are either injured or losing. I know its early but who would you have up there.
Players with losing records or outside of the playoff picture dont get recognition like Lebron.
In the East John Wall has to be the frontrunner for MVP and possibly theoughout the league. Lowry could get a mention for MVP but part of what makes him so effective is all the attention teams put on Derozan. I think Toronto would win games without Lowry or without Derozan but Washington would lose games fast without Wall.
Another UK one and done star Anthony Davis is shredding up the competition is the West. He defenitely could win it but New Orleans has got to qaulify for the playoffs for him to recieve the award which could be easier said then done.
The West has alot more candidates. Gasol, Aldridge, Harden, Cousins, Gay, Curry, and Paul are all making a case right now.
Obviously Lebron is still a top candidate but as of now who would you say is leading the race?

TallmanNYCParticipantIs there a rule that says you have to make the playoffs to be MVP? Because if the MVP vote were held today based on performance this year it would be a two man race between The Brow and Lebron. The Pelicans are in a nightmare division with some of the best teams in the league, so that is going to hurt their win loss. Not to mention that it seems like the West is even stronger this season than it was last season. If OKC comes back strong and gets back to form, it will definitely take 50 wins to make the playoffs out of the West.

ropeParticipantIf the vote was held today, there is not a chance in Hades that LeBron wins it. That may change over the course of the season, but both he and his team have underperformed.
Davis, on the other hand, is a legit candidate who will finish very high in the voting even if he doesn’t win it this year.

Toronto16ParticipantJames Harden is probably the MVP front runner right now. Not sure how you can be a most valuable player if your team isn’t even winning, so that’s why you can’t win MVP if your team isn’t in a playoff spot, as it pertains to Anthony Davis.
As for Lebron, not liking his body language at all. In fact I think he is doing more to hurt the team than help. Not letting the coach do his job and always calling out the inadequacies of the team.

R-Dot-13ParticipantLowry in the East. Curry or Davis in the West.

TimeForNineParticipantI think the favorites (if the season ended today) would be Davis and LeBron.
The next tier would probably have guys like Harden, M. Gasol, Cousins, Wall, Paul, and Curry in no particular order.
Some dark horses could be guys like Lowry, Klay Thompson, Lillard, and Bosh

Rip255Marc Gasol if Memphis can maintain their league-best record.
Dominated DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin today.

nick5354ParticipantMarc Gasol started off HOT however bar today he has been a cooling off. He isn’t rebound as much as I thought he would only averaging 7.8 a game. I haven’t seen any of Memphis this year so I cannot really comment on his defence. If his defensive is still elite he would definitely be in for a chance if he finishes the year something like 20PPG, 8.5RPG, 3APG and 1.5 BPG with elite defence.

Mr. HookShotParticipantMarc Gasol’s game is not just based on stats, and definitely not based on pouring in points. He affects the game in such a variety of ways, both on offense as a facilitator (maybe he doesn’t give the final assist but he gives the pass before the final assist or starts plays in the high-post) as on defense as an enforcer (only his presence in the paint is intimidating to opposing players). Combine that with him being a good shooter who makes his FTs at a high percentage (and thus will stay in the game during crunch time) and you have a almost unique player in today’s NBA who is definitely one of the most valuable players for their respective teams.
If the Grizzlies can hold on to that top spot (or 2-seed) and other teams and stars keep struggling (Cavs, OKC, Bulls) his biggest competition RIGHT NOW for MVP comes from Davis, Curry and Harden in the West and Wall in the East.

MopgrassParticipantI thought Durant missing so much time would practically hand Lebron the MVP. I didn’t see Anthony Davis coming up this quick.

kanuflengParticipantDerrick Rose, for being a pussy, and thinking about his life 20 yrs down the road. He doenst want to feel sore in his future meetings and graduations.
Hating aside:
Marc Gasol has to be the MVP if given today. His stats might not be mind blowing (19.9 pts, 8.1 reb, 3.1, 1.5 blk) but he’s the most valuable part of the team leading the stacked West. Rebounding is down because he has Z. Bo getting all the rebounds. But he is the anchor of their defense and also facilitating the offense. Put him out of the lineup and the Grizz is out of the playoffs.

finneganParticipantcousins and brow davis is much more valuable to their respective teams. both players deserve on the mvp talks lists.
davis stats was the best so far. cousins isn’t far behind, cousins average 23/12/2/1/1 with 51% fg in only 31 mins and the kings are winning NOW.
I can’t imagine if davis and cousins are playing in the same team (cousins at center, davis at pf). Goodbye to all the big 3’s blah blah blah. this 2 bigs are the next big thing in the NBA. If they played together thats a total "FRONTCOURT DOMINATION"
3 calipari’s boys in the mvp talks….. davis, cousins and wall.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIf Marc Gasol won it (and why not if the Grizzlies continue to win and he continues to fill it up?), the he would be one of an insanely few who have won both a DPOY and an MVP.
You could take Anthony Davis though. Better stats. His team is worse though, but the Grizzlies core has been playing with each other for years.
Can’t argue with Steph Curry, Harden, or Chris Paul either.
I would go with Marc based on OVERALL stats with winning with intangibles.
DON’T LIKE LeBron’s case here. Lowest career rebounds, lowest steals, lowest scoring since his rookie year, and he is turning over the ball at a 4.0 clip. His T/O number has a great GPA.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantI’m pretty surprised that you’re the first person to mention Westbrook. A couple guys mentioned about 10 names and didn’t come up with Westbrook once. The guy has really shown his importance to the Thunder this year by carrying the load for them more often that Durant, and his stats are eye-popping. He’s averaging 26.4 PPG, 6.8 APG, 5.8 RPG and 1.9 SPG in just 29.6 MPG, that’s crazy. His PER is 34.64!
