HitsterParticipantAs I mentioned him in another post about 2018 draft and he looks a legit top 3 or top 5 at worse prospect for next year, I wondered what other people’s thought’s about him are and which college he might go to.
Duke has been mentioned and the chance to play on a powerhouse team under Coach K would surely appeal to him. Michigan has also been mentioned and John Beilein is another quality coach who could help develop him.
If he really wanted to go to a coach who could specifically help him develop then maybe Patrick Ewing at the Hoyas but that would be a real leap of faith.
I said I hadn’t seen much of him, so have spent a while watching some of his games. He is very quick on his feet for a near 7 foot guy and seems to have a good fundamental basketball IQ so will be very coachable. His size and wingspan mean he can be a monster defensively both in the paint and having to speed to get out and mark midrange and perimeter shooting bigs.
He is still very skinny only being 216lbs but he has added 20lbs aprox over the last two years and with his NBA debut being at least 18 months away and the availability to him of top college and NBA training programs, he should be easily able to be nearer 230lbs come NBA debut time and could get to 240-250lbs if required in the future.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantIt would be a great story if he went to the Hoyas but if I am him and the goal is to be the highest possible pick in next years draft. I am going to Coach Cal. History has proved that having a bad-average year at the center postion more than any other postion is determental to your draft stock. I wouldnt stake millions of dollars on an unproven coach even if he is Patrick Ewing.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantReally good kid, just dont know about him in the NBA. May be a solid rim protector. He reminds me allot of Omer Asik but he has Gobert potential…

mowestenParticipantI think he is one of the few kids in which academics will truely be a big part of his decision. Most kids will say that, but at the end of the day, for most, it’s a basketball decision. For Bamba, I could see other things factoring into his decision.
I like the Rudy Gobert comparison, actually.

esperanzafleet69Participanti think you’re right on the academics part of this. In which case it put him at either Duke or Michigan, with kentucky in there too.

Dog_ShammdogParticipantI don’t see the Asik comparison at all but can see the similarities in his physical and athletic profile with Gobert. I cant compare him to Gobert but think he could be a mix of Rudy and Anthony Randolph, which COULD be a fantastic combination. He has a fantastic head on his shoulders and a good motor to go with it. His college development is going to be huge for his pro prospects as people will be monitoring his development in real time which makes it more difficult to romanticize his potential as a prospect. I think he’s going to wind up at Duke, unfortunately because I’m a UNC fan. Their frontcourt is thoroughly depleted after the transfers of Bolden and Jeter, graduation of Jefferson and Harry Giles entering the draft. I believe Bamba will welcome the pressure of playing for duke and would be a great fit with Coach K as Bamba expects very much from himself and takes well to being pushed.

JordanC20ParticipantBamba is waiting to see if Bam is staying in the draft if he does he’s coming to Kentucky without a doubt

OhCanada-ParticipantTheres really no comparison that does him any justice. Maybe Thon Maker who I am extremely high on but just to put his length into perspective his arms are half a foot longer than Thons. Bruno Caboclo got drafted in the 1st round because of his 7’7 wingspan and jumpshot with literally no info about his character and no abillity to speak enhlish. Bamba can actually play and like Maker despite his slight build he is solid and holds his own against much bigger guys.
His potential has to be thought of similar to Giannis Antetekoumpo because of the way he moves with his length. When he gets drafted I hope he goes to a good organization.

ChammesParticipanthis ceiling can be AD because of his mobility and his shot blocking, he’s so freakishly long it’s hard but AD comes to mind. Bamba is a little better offensively than AD was at this age but bamba has everything, he needs to gain weight and work on his offense but that’s basically it. His floor could be Gobert and ceiling as AD or maybe something better if he puts it together
