U not serious.
That is a horrible mock draft, sorry had to say it. Smart would never be No.1 and no way the Hornets would give up on Vasquez after this season and "rrrreeeeaaaaccccchhhhh" for Trey Burke.
I get what you are saying ... I am looking straight up at talent. Smart is lightyears ahead of anyone else in the draft based on talent. If he finished the year strong, there are few guys with as big of upside as he has.
I think Smart could go #1 if the right team wins the lotto. Cleveland or Washington won't take him, but Orlando, Sacramento, and some others could give him a serious look.
Smart is talented, I agree with you there.
But light years ahead of everyone in this draft based on pure talent?? That's just a dumb statement, from a TALENT standpoint, I don't know if he's even more talented than Archie Goodwin, who I think has just as much talent as anyone in this years draft class.
Smart is more physically gifted than anyone in this year's draft. Lightyears may have been an exaggeration, but athletically, he is better than anyone.
It depends on what we say is physically gifted, Oladipo and Mclemore are physical freaks. Noel is a specimen if not injured and the French kid Gobert has some silly combine numbers look at his wingspan. All of them you could argue are the most physically gifted it depends on position
Festar, compare trey burke and chris paul's stats in college, and get back to me ...
Go check Adam Morrison's college stats and compare them to Paul George's and then tell me what small forward you would rather have because on college success Morrison would be an all-star and Paul George who only scored 16 ppg at Fresno would be in Europe, but George's outstanding athleticism and feel for the game made him a NBA star. Also if you say college success is important Doug McDermott would be a top 5 prospect
Okay. Paul George had 8.7 rebounds per 40 mins 3.7 assists 2.7 steals and 1 block with a 48.5 2p% and a 35.3 3p%. While Morrison had 6 rebounds per 40 mins 1.9 assists 1.2 steals and .4 rebounds with a 52.3 2p% and a 42.8 3p%. In college Morrison was completely horrible at everything other than points and his lack of ability other than scoring was completely exposed in the NBA, but George shows a clear ability to, along with being a solid scorer, rebound and defend. Stop looking at only points per game and you will realize that with college stats it is much easier to predict nba success.
Maybe I made a bad comparison. Although it seems silly now but Adam Morrison was hyped, go to the draft archive on here and find who they compared him to, yes Larry Bird. Also my point was college stats do not mean everything for the draft, look at Thomas Robinson and his struggles this year. To compare Trey Burke to CP3, because of stats is silly, that was my original point. I have been following the draft about 10 years and CP3's feel for the game and understanding of it were miles ahead of any other point guard prospect including Deron Williams, Drose and Kyrie. Also CP3 affected the game through defense as well, Burke is nowhere that level as a defender or with his understanding of the game
I agree with you. I do not base my comparison completely on their stats. Their stats are similar, but i know better.
What i like about Burke is his ability to create offense, set up teammates, get into the lane, pull-up over defenders, create room to get good shots, and keep plays alive. Those characteristics remind me a lot of Chris Paul, and the stats can serve as confirmation. Against tough, and sometimes NBA level, competition, he scores points and gets a lot of assists.
I liked your draft. It seems unlikely that it plays out that way but who knows. Of course these guys are going to hate because you said something's that are different than what they hear everyday. The truth is that none of them have a better idea than you about how the draft will go down. It's cool that we have a contest on the site every year to see why was the closest.
I agree with you that if Marcus smart has a good showing in the tourney, and then does well at the combine he might b a potential number 1 pick. My advice would be not to base your mock so much after what you think a teams need is. Most teams draft whoever they think Will be the best asset for them going forward, as opposed to the player that fits their roster best at that time.
Are you seriously agreeing with this guy?
He had Ben McLemore going seven, I agree that alot of posters go off of what they hear and see everyday, but you know there's now way in HELL, McLemore will drop that low, and no way Trey Burke who stands 5'11 and doesn't have that extra gear is taken in the top 5.
I think that is the one mistake with this recent draft. McLemore is a sure NBA starter, and 7 is too low. The Mock is updated weekly, and that will be corrected.
Noel blew out his knee, he won't be in the 2013 draft.
Noel will still go Lottery THIS year.
You really think so? Not everyone is Adrian Peterson. Noel's youth will aid in his recovery, but I seriously doubt a team will waste a pick on a guy recovering from a serious knee injury. Certainly not the #2 pick. Injuries scare the &$#%#&@! out of teams, There is a long record of this.
The Mock is updated weekly. Adjustments will continue to be made based on Noel's injuries and McLemore's big game. Please check out the draft tiers to learn more information about how i came up with this mock.
Thanks flybobby ... I know some of what i said is against the grain of the 'espn current,' but fact is that espn sells some players high and other players low. They are not unbiased.
He's still top 3 according to scouts; his family is in poverty so he will leave. He's 18 and will come back better so the team that drafts him will have to go MLB style and treat him as a prospect.
Regardless of what Noel is listed.....why would he come back and possibly get hurt AGAIN?
Noel is gone.
Sorry bud this is a really bad Mock. I actually liked you putting Smart number 1 because like Irving, Wall, and Rose, Smart is that type of physically mature and fundamentally sound guard that could come in and change the culture of a franchise. This would depend on whoever get's the number one pick and Smart continuing his excellent play.
But then you went on to say that Noel's is the best player left on the board by a long shot, which is completely ridiculous. There is no consensus that Noel's is even the best big man in the draft as many scouts and such believe that Zeller, Len and even Willie Cauley Stein are all on the same tier as a prospect. I also belive Austin to be on that same tier but thats another story.
And Bennett would have to play SF for the Cavs because have you saw Tristan Thompsons recent play? This guy is finally living up to his potential and is putting up monster numbers as of late.
And the Sixers would never take McAdoo they already have Thad Young to play that role who is way better, and Arnett Moultrie has been showing signs as of late.
good thoughts ... i will consider some of those things in the next Mock.
I disagree with you about Noel. I think he is, even with his knee blown out, still the best big by a long shot.
I also disagree with you about Bennet to the Cavs. Thompson has been playing really well, but they need a true scorer who can create for himself and does not rely on Kyrie. They could play Thompson and Bennett at the same time.
Marcus is a great player and I see what you are getting at but, Cody Zeller is going go Top 5 and so is Ben. Trey Burke is out there I might cut you a little slack if he was 10 or 11 but how high you put him up. ALOMOST IMPOSSIBLE. You got a far out there draft.
I dont hate the mock. I like the originality tho i don't agree with a lot of picks.
I like Cory Jefferson to OKC, thought about putting him there myself before.
