joe2324Participanti’m sorry, but Mike D’Antoni’s system is god awful to watch. This team has the worst ball movement of any team in the playoffs. How on earth did they make it this far? Its just dribble, dribble, dribble some more, 3 pointer, hope for a rebound, pass back to the top of the key, more dribbling isolation, 3 pointer. If they lose, he needs to go. This team is too talented to play this horrible style of offense.

SportsNinjaParticipantToo talented? I don’t think they’re that talented on paper. If they had CP3 you have to wonder if they would have made it to the finals. And if that’s the case it’s hard to fire him. When a team plays better than they are on paper, you have to give some credit to the coach.

joe2324ParticipantIf Dwayne Casey can get fired for the raptors having the best record in the east and losing to the Cavs, I think its fair game on D’antoni. Watching the rockets feels like i’m watching a bunch of guys who have never played with each other playing pick up ball on the street. Theres no motion, no cutting, no screens, nobody is moving without the ball, just standing around

SportsNinjaParticipantI completely understand, the only thing I’d mention with that is his offenses have always been predicated on (amazing) pg play.

BrentSuriaga01ParticipantThat there are some bad calls against Rockets (which I agree to some degree), there’s no excuse jacking up that many 3s and not making it.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantWhether you enjoy it or not, they play a style that fits and maximizes the personnel on their roster. It’s much different than d’antoni has played in previous coaching stops and it’s very hard to argue with the overall results. They were very likely one extremely ill-timed hamstring injury from going to the finals as heavy favorites. D’antoni has done a remarkable job and isn’t going anywhere.

whiteflashParticipantAnd if Iguadala hadn’t gone down the Warriors win in 5. "What if’s" are silly, and injuries are unfortunately part of the game. Both Paul and Harden have a history of choking in big moments, and it apparently rubbed off on everyone last night.
D’antoni’s rigidity as a coach has cost him in the past, but yesterday was unreal. He and Morey are apparently pretty close though, so can’t imagine he gets canned.
Heard somewhere that Phoenix offered Capela the max, and have a hard time seeing them match/give Paul what he wants. Think this was their best chance. Been saying for years that you can’t win with Harden as your number one option and D’antoni as your coach. Don’t think Morey’s great either. I’d honestly think about blowing it up.

BrentSuriaga01ParticipantI’m starting to get bored with the 3 guys (Mike Breen, JVG, Mark Jackson) since they’ve been covering NBA finals for a while now. I missed those times when NBC covers the Finals with Marv Albert together with the Czar.

BeastMode716ParticipantWhen they punished Marv for being a freak back in the 1990’s that Great Finals in 1998 between the Bulls & Jazz when Jordan hit that Classic game winner & hit the pose
Bob Costas literally Ruined the moment
Marv Albert was a Huge part of the Jordan Bulls legacy for fans
a lot like Cosell w/ Ali

cohenbc1ParticipantIs it D’Antoni’s system or Morey’s system? D’Antoni has to work within the confines of rule that basically says "No midrange jumpers allowed." D’Antoni’s old Suns killed teams with Stoudemire’s pick-n-pop jumpers and Marion’s crafty postups.
Morey doesn’t want that, but they really don’t have elite three-point shooters. I guess the theory is to compensate for a lower percentage with higher volume. Harden, Gordon, Ariza and Tucker were all 36-37% 3-point shooters on the season. That’s pretty good, but it seems to me that for Morey’s system to really work, you need a shooter like Korver or Ingles on the floor. And/or you need a 5th shooter, meaning Ryan Anderson instead of Capela.

mowestenParticipantYES!!!
I say if you’re going to but chuck 3s, lets get serious about it and go all in. Trade Capela, start Ryan Anderson at the 5 and stop shooting 50 3s, and start shooting 90.

2quick4uParticipantHow on earth did they make it this far?
actually that style is what has made them go this far…i totally agree with you that Houston and his star Harden play the most horrible basketball i’ve ever seen and they actually go against the tendency that the game is taking of movement and passing.
but that being said, that "horrible" style of basketball is the perfect strategy against this GSW team, as Houston plays very good defense (6th "Def Rtg"), they score like the best (nº1 "Off Rtg") and they have more triples than anybody (15.3) while because of that ugly style, they can adapt to fast pace teams like the Warriors dribbling more and playing longer possessions like they’ve done, making the Warriors play a slow pace that has almost made them lose the series even after shooting 7/44 triples and playing without Paul.
I think that in this case, is S.Kerr who really seems to not understand what’s going on here and because of that he almost makes his team lose the series…
Lebron might be playing for the worst team he’s played in the last decade but this Warriors team is the worst since their reign started in 2015.

Memphis MadnessParticipantNow I am waiting for a team to build an offense solely around finger rolls, turn-around fadeaways, sky hooks, and mid-range jumpers.
Oh wait, it’s called the Memphis Madness Offense.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantThey finally got another legit allstar level player to play with Harden and look how far they went..
I say give D’antoni a shot with a legit roster that can actually match GSW and if he lost then consider firing him.. Because Under Dantoni Harden seems happy,You got CP3 to come(which wouldn’t have happened under any other coach) and He had you one game away from the finals(which was an improvement on last year unlike Cassey).
So the question more so becomes what can you put into Dantoni’s system to help Harden,Cp3 and Gordon out?Capella sort of fits but at the same time sort of doesn’t,Nene and Ariza are getting up there in years and Luc bah moute would not start on a legit contender. Which leads me to the following:
They should target any of the following:
Mike Beasley(bench) Him and Harden have nice chemistry.
A legit stretch center-Maybe Nik V could fit there or Demarcus cousins-If you believe he can be ready and at least 80% game fit by starting season(also that he would buy in).
a 3 and D small forward-Ingles,Khris Middleton,Jae Crowder all spring to mind when I think of what they truly need.
figure out what you are doing with Anderson,Nene and Ariza- Do you move them to the bench sort of move?
and
Get at least one more 20 ppg scorer.
But the main thing I would seriously consider if I was the Rockets-Try see if CP3 would buy into a 6th aman role on limited mins so you can try get him to the finals as the guy can’t seem to stay healthy which unless he gets into legit lebron like shape and stay on the court full a run…This means you are starting Harden and Gordon instead.

HitsterParticipantHouston is the perfect fit for Mike D’Antoni – Harden and CP3 seem to love playing for him, so I’d guess he’d get and want another crack at it.
Mike is 67 years old now, so this will likely be his last major coachimng job I’d think.
