Trey Burke is 1-3 against Aaron Craft in their meetings, looking to see if he can bounce back from the last time him and Craft met(Craft shut him down) and looking to see how he will bounce back after forcing the issue a little too much against Indiana and losing.
if not for mcgary.... don't know where Michigan would be
Yea McGary seems like he's starting to come alive, maybe one day he might live up to those high praises and draft status's he was getting coming out of HS.
He look real good tonight
Craft is really harassing Burke.
What else is new? LOL
Thats why I think Burke draft stock isn't as high as some think it should be, he really has a hard time shaking defenders in ISO situations, he just doesn't have that extra burst, lottery selection PG's have.
I am slowly agreeing, NBA caliber defenders(oladipo,Craft) have been giving him problems getting separation; I still think he will be a Jameer Nelson/Raymond Felton type of player at the next level, not Chris Paul.
Yea, he had 25pts 8ast 5rebs 2stls against Indiana.
Craft and Oladipo are elite defenders in college.
Suprised nobody commented on Michigans shoes yet lol....Super Bright!
Crafts defense is phenomenal seriously.
ohio state has athletes on the perimeter that no other team has... or maybe I cant think of any other team
Hardaway with two HUGE 3's.
Hardaway with FOUR huge 3's, dude's on FIRE.
@lebrons hairline.... I knew I was missing one lol
I would rather not play rather than have Aaron craft guard me lol he has to be so frustrating to play against
Trey Burke shot 24 shots to get 25 points, him and Beilein even came out and said the next day he was playing way out his element, dude never shot that many shots ever.....
If u not watching this game shame on you.
Wow what a shot!
Yes! More basketball!
I'm so upset my stupid sports package isn't working. The play by play will have to do. *sigh*
if u want a good play by play just follow me on twitter
Say what you want........
Trey Burke aint got nothing for Aaron Craft, that boy just has Burke's number.
Classic Aaron Craft game. Barely stealing it with his defense, and then giving it back with his poor offense. Twice in critical spots he made nice moves to the rim and couldn't finish, then on this last exchange first letting Burke chase him down and knock it out of bounds, and then getting blocked on the last shot. I see his defensive ability at the college level is great, but he isn't nearly athletic enough to guard ELITE nba guards, and his offense is beyond terrible.
I don't know why people say that Craft isn't athletic enough. Watch his feet. He's got some of the quickest feet laterally at any level of basketball. Him not being an NBA caliber player has nothing to do with his defense not translating. It has everything to do with the other end of the floor.
Can the refs just let them play ball instead of calling a flagrant?
...And then gets it blocked again on the last play.
Good game! I wanted double overtime
I'd still take Burke in the lottery... He has everything thats needed to BLOSSOM INTO a star at the next level. Not there yet, but you can see the potential anxiously waiting to be tapped! He's my type of point guard. We'll work on his Isolations, other than that he has it.
what a game......
Are you trying to bash Craft lmao.....
He was MVP of this game easily, they lost and came up short but you can't take anything away from Craft.
BigChamp, Burke is def a first rounder, but lottery...I dont think so.
Craft is a below average offensive player who took their last 3 shots and missed them, as well as two other misses in OT. I don't care how many steals he had or how great D he played, I gave credit where credit was do for his defense, but maybe if he let someone else touch the ball those last couple of possessions they would have won. You aren't the MVP of anything when your team loses.
I understand everybody's concerns about Burke and I cant argue them. But if I was a GM looking for point guard that I will want to run my team in the near future, I dont see a better one out there. Im comfortable with his size, his speed, athleticism, passing, jumpshot, IQ. One of my favorite things about him is how he responds to failure. He keeps his head even when he's not playing well or missing shots. I like pgs that lead. He's a leader on the court. Not the type of pg that just orchestrates the offense and gets out of the way. I think he wants it bad enough.
I agree with you on the offensive part down the stretch, Craft looked out of place, but defensively he did his job, Burke was shook the whole night, he was nowhere near aggressive, he aint want no parts of Burke.
Even Dicky V was saying Burke was playing timid he has to challenge Craft, Burke never did, he made a couple of 3's, but anything going to the basket Burke got nothing.
I completely agree with everything you said. Craft did a phenomenally job on Burke. But nights like that show why many don't believe Burke will be anything too special in the NBA. He just doesn't have the size, and the fact he was playing so timid was truly and indictment on him, but a good job by Craft as well.
And understand, my problem with Craft's offensive shortcomings aren't just from tonights game. Many times I've watched OSU this year and he just takes too many shots, tries to be the leader on offense because he's the leader on defense, and just falls flat on his face on that end. The Duke game, he was TERRRRRIBLE. This team has offensive talent in the paint as well as with DeShaun Thomas' inside-out game. They don't need Craft trying to get to the rim or taking pullups in traffic in critical spots. They need him digging in on D and getting out of the way on O.
Trey Burke is a great college player, but I dont see him being anything but a back up PG or 3rd level PG in the NBA, that's just what I think, he doesn't have the size, the burst needed to be effective in the NBA....and Craft proves that time and time again.
Nah bra i'm not going to argue with you about Craft's offense lol you won that debate, I know Craft isn't anything special on offense, his defense just makes me overlook his offense, he should have gave the ball to Deshaun Thomas at the end.
I understand you love Burke, but what does he do that you can see him being a top PG or a starter in the league?
Burke has too many shortcomings to be selected lottery, or to be a full time starting PG.
He's no CP3 let's stop with that right now.
Name me a 5'11-6'0 PG in the NBA right now that is a beast that's not fast, quick or super explosive....besides CP3.
I told you, I cant argue his case against anyone. I dont disagree with anything you've said honestly. But If my team needed a point guard from this years draft and I had the 12th pick, looking at the rest of the point guards in this year's draft for me it's a no-brainer to take Trey Burke. He wont be a Kyrie or Lillard. But I think, he could blossom into a really good point guard.
I mean yea, if a team in the lottery needs a PG and Marcus Smart,MCW, and CJ McCollum(To an extent) are gone then yea Burke is next in line, but he's not lottery material/talent.
But if the chips fall a certain way then yea he could be, that's the only way I see Burke being a lottery pick is if he HAS to be taken lottery to fill a void.
I thought Trey did better job with the PnR vs OSU than Indiana . Indiana kept going under and he ended up either settling for the jumper off the dribble, or backing it out. He actually got into the paint more today than vs Indiana and would've easily had double digit assists if McGary finished a couple of his bunnies. Trey had that nice left hand wrap around pocket pass off the bounce that McGary blew. He also had a nice little drive and dump off where GR3 got stuffed at the rim. All in all he was more selective, made 50% of his shots from the floor, had another 4 to 1 A/T game, ultimately made the 3 that sealed the game and made some key defensive plays. It's not like he had a bad game.
Still the best floor general and PnR PG in college. He makes decisions like a vet. I think he'll adjust easily to the more PnR heavy NBA game.
He also happens to be the #1 off the dribble shooter in college basketball percentage wise as well, is dynamite in transition, really competes defensively and has natural leadership ability.
Another impressive game by McGary. IMO, he should be the starter for the rest of the yr, but I don't think Beilein wants to start 3 freshmen. His combination of activity, physicality, touch around the rim, rebounding ability, soft hands and good feet for a guy his size is really impressive. He doesn't look like he'd be able to, but he moves his feet very well laterally for a big. I think he'll be an asset in the PnR game on both ends of the floor. I was down on him as a prospect after watching a couple of his games last yr, but he's currently climbing up my 2014 big board. If he can get down that 15fter I think he could go somewhere in the mid teens or a little higher.
How about LaQuinton Ross? I thought he was going to have a bigger role this yr after word got around that he had a really productive summer. The kid is so talented as a scorer, but he lacks assertiveness. Hopefully this game is a sign of things to come for him. With DeShaun likely leaving after this yr they're gonna need a go to scorer next yr. He has the capability of being one. His shooting line is really nice but he doesn't get his number called or just doesn't look for his shot enough. I don't think even he realizes just how talented he is...either that or he doesn't care enough, which seemed like the case in HS.
THjr was the MVP with his barrage of 3's in the 2nd half. He's still streaky, but he's had more good streaks than bad streaks this yr. He reminded me too much of Gerald Henderson in the past, but if he can maintain the consistency in his outside shot, he'll definitely have that over Gerald which'll make him a more valuable player.
Let's be honest, Burke got locked up, he didn't get in the paint much at all, he hit some desperation 3's on Craft that was it, he had a couple of good Pick and Roll plays, but all in all Burke was very timid and you could tell he was thinking way too much today, and maybe that helped him because he didn't have many turnovers, and if you look at his stats, you might think he had a good game, but if you watched the game, Burke got shutdown........again by Craft.
Even Dickey V as I said in a previous post, was frustrated with Burke, as he said time and time again Burke has to challenge Craft, he's not asserting himself at all out there, and when he did Craft would cut him off, take the ball, or make Burke fumble it.
I love a player who gets 16pts 8ast 3rebs 1blk 2TOs on 50FG% in a game he got "shut down".
Who's your favorite PG? I would like to see him go up against Craft, see how he does.
16pts on 12 shots 50% from the floor, 8 asts to only 2 TOs
Contained? Yes. Locked up? No.
Locked up would at least lead to shooting less than 50% from the floor, limited play making opps and single digit scoring. That didn't happen.
And yes, Trey did a better job getting into the lane instead of forcing the issue from the outside like he did vs Indiana. He was also more selective than he was vs Indiana. He got at least half his assists off of PnR and could've had more if McGary and co. didn't miss a couple of bunnies or get stuffed at the rim.
Craft is a tremendous defender, probably the best on ball defender in the college game. Not only does he defend on the ball well, but he denies the ball well. So if Trey gives up the ball, which he does at the beginning of every possession since their offense starts on the wing, Craft makes it tough to get the ball back. Craft is a DPOY type defender and he defended well. What's new? Trey still got his numbers, which shows his adaptability
You didn't watch the game obviously.....If you look at his stats, yes it looks good, but watch the game.
If it wasn't for McGary in the beginning and Hardaway at the end, UofM would have lost, UofM did not win because of Burke this game.
My favorite PG in college is Burke actually and Pierre Jackson, I just call it how I see it.
I was covering my eyes the entire game.
Numbers don't lie. He didn't have a great game like you would expect him to because he's a beast, but he certainly didn't get shut down.
I like him but I'm unbiased, I would say he got shut down if he did. Lorenzo Brown is one of my favorite players and he got shut down by Marcus Smart.
Trey Burke didn't get shut down.
So what do you call what Craft was doing to him?
He was scared to go at Craft!? Lol were we watching the same game?
Alright, there were a couple times Burke tried to go at Craft on ISO's and some P&Rs and he wasn't as successful as one would like him to be, but again, he didn't get shut down.... He found ways to have a decent game and most importantly get the W.
He was playing defense like he usually does and Trey still got 16/8 on 50% shooting. If that's getting locked up then every single guard in college basketball gets shut down just about every single game since hardly any college guards get 16/8 on 50%.
That's why I said I actually think Burke's timidness helped him out this game, he was scared of Craft, there's no arguing that, but I think it helped in a way because he was very reserved tonight, and he sorta let the game come to him in a weird type of way.
In my book Craft got the better of Burke again......whenever Craft defended Burke he locked him down, but as you said his numbers still look good and he came away with the W.
But with Burke being the best PG in college and the #1 candidate for NPOY right now,I expected more from Burke.
Yet Burke still had the better numbers, scored 14 of his 16 points when guarded by Craft, 5 for 8 shooting when guarded by Craft, made the eventual game winning shot, got the game winning block on Craft and got the win.
Not bad for being "outplayed." Craft held him to 63% from the floor.
Burke didn't get anything but some desperation 3's on Craft, any and everything going to the rim and Craft was near was getting swiped or stolen, Burke got most of his stuff out of the pick and roll, nothing 1on1 against Craft.
ESPN has the replay if you want to watch it again..... it's 4-1 in my book Craft over Burke, far as head to head battles.
