     Where does he fit?

At this moment, I could see Dallas possibly selecting him if Mohamed Bamba is off the board.

I could see him in Atlanta, they have Collins no need for Bagley.

Unless he shines in workouts the Hawks would be smarter to trade down to take him.

I agree with this. I just put him 3rd in my mock draft. To be fair I think Bamba, Jackson, Bagley and Carter are just as good if not better prospects but Porter is just a really good fit for Atlanta.

A team that is willing to be patient and has some support for him. He still needs to learn the game and really has not ever played a role. It would be nice to see him go to a team that wont be expecting him to come in and be a number 1, 2 or 3 option out the gates. I think his best fits would be away from Phoenix, Sacramento or Orlando although thats not to say he cant succeed in those places.

I could see him working well next to DSJ in Dallas, but I think we would see the Mavs moving on from Barnes if they decide to take him.

Hasn’t Barnes been playing out of position?

You could say that, he averaged 20ppg down the stretch once moved back to SF spot so that seems to be where he plays best which is where I see Porter playing.

That’s where I was going with my question. If they happen to pull the trigger on Porter Jr., Barnes could settle into a Thaddeus Young role.

Barnes is too different to Thad for that to work. Barnes is a good defender but better offensively, but Thad is all about defense and hard work.

Barnes still has a higher ceiling and I think you’d underutilize him if you did that.

Well, I think Sacto takes whoever the Suns dont and they have little to complain about whether they get Ayton or Doncic. Both will be a great fit for either ball club.

Suns – Booker, Jackson, Warren, Doncic/Chriss and Chandler/Len/Bender
Suns – Payton/#16 pick, Booker, Jackson, Warren/Chriss, Ayton
    Kings – Fox, Hield/Bogdanovic, Doncic, Labissiere/Giles, WCS
    Kings – Fox, Hield, Bogdanovic, Labissiere/Giles, Ayton/WCS

I think Doncic #1 and Ayton #2 are actually better fits for each club but Im not sure theyll get drafted that way.. maybe Phoenix squeezes WCS out of Sacto for the right to drop down and they still get Doncic.

I think Atlanta could play Collins and Bagley together and so I think Marv goes #3.

So, for mine, Porter goes to Memphis at 4 with Conley, Porter and Gasol as the offensive options moving forward, surrounded by role players. They will likely have Porter’s rookie year to build and add a late lotto pick (if they still have it next year) then 2-3 years of trying to get through the West with this core before they ship out Gasol and blow it up.

This leaves Bamba to the Mavs who will happily take him and get what they hoped Nerlens Noel was going to give them.

Michael Porter Jr. would be a dream come true for Memphis to make the fans forget about dropping the load on Chandler Parsons.

Memphis has to take him at 4 I think. Jaren Jackson is a longer-term project and their front office said they want to get back in the playoffs in the short-term. They have too many SG’s and PF’s already, they sound committed to Conley and Gasol already. A SF and a scorer are what they need, why not get both in 1 guy.

After tonight, I see him going earlier than previously expected. I think that the Grizzlies will see his Wing-Scoring as an asset that they cant pass up at #4. Before the Lottery I had him slipping to #6 or #7, however as the picks switched up tonight I see him as one of the few wing talents that fits in alongside Conley and Gasol immediately in Memphis.

This is a hard one to fully call..

Depends on his health-That Back issue/whatever the injury that kept him out could give teams a red flag already.

However I could see the following taking a chance in the top 6.

Atlanta-He makes sense there if you are playing him at the 4.(This is the 3rd pick)

Memphis-But this is dependent on if you think he is a 4 or 3 as I see them blowing things completely up in 2-3 seasons.

Orlando if they move on from Gordon/let him walk due to not wanting to pay him.

Dallas-If they want him to be heir apparent to Dirk when he puts them up in a season or two at the 4 as the guy is tall enough to play the 4.

Outside those teams being options I could see him sliding anywhere from 8-13 So I could see the Cavs,Clippers or 76ers all being interested in his potential and may have time to groom him/develop his skills..The only exception would be the Cavs if lebron Bails though..

I agree mostly with what Goat was saying except for I think the top two that fits the best for both Phoenix and the Kings is Ayton #1 and Doncic at 2. I can’t see Doncic playing the 4. I see him more as a point forward that can play both SF/SG. Point forward to me does not mean he can play the PF position, it just means they are a forward (3 or 4 but not both, one or the other) that can pass extremely well. Doncic is not a Ben Simmons type player, he’s more like Gordon Hayward was in Utah, to me, and Hayward never did play the play the 4 in Utah and never should. Phoenix needs a center or a 4 the most but Bagley is the best prospect that plays the 4, but he’s not going #1, so it has to be Ayton.

Everything else that the Goat was saying I agree with. So Bagely at 3 to the Hawks. Collins plays the defensive small ball type Center and Bagley is the high profile offensive PF to balance that out. Porter goes 4th to the Grizzlies because he makes the most sense for them. I can see Atlanta selecting Porter because of need, but at the same time I can’t see Porter going 3rd because while he has the talent and potential to be really good, he hasn’t proven that yet, and you have to have both in my opinion to be a top 3 pick. Otherwise the team that selects you is wasting their time and money and no team wants to do that. And then Dallas selects Jaren Jackson Jr, as a stretch 4 thus moving Barnes to his more natural position, the 3, and also JJJ replaces Nowitski who will soon retire and make his way to the Hall of Fame.

I was at the Grizzlies Draft Party last night. The room was lit for 2 hours Leading up to the moment of the draft. The atmosphere was like your team hit a shot to give your team the lead. The moment it was announced Memphis got the 4th pick it was like the opposition hit a 3 and the other team won.The room was Totally Quiet. The guy that does Memphis radio play by play wife said it hurt. I told her it’ll be ok. Because we still have a shot at the best player in this draft Porter. She still said everything hurts. She wanted the 1st pick. It would’ve been Kool to get number 1 pick and got the Guy u wanted and not have to pray he drops to u.According to some Grizzlies insiders they r also high on Trae Young.Folks in Memphis had their Top wish list as 1.Ayton.2. Bagley 3. Doncic 4.Young 5. Porter. They were considered the only players capable of being super stars.Anyone else would be a letdown considering the losing they had to endure this season. As a Memphis fan I’d be ok with Porter or Young. But I prefer Porter.

If Memphis took Trae Young, what would that mean for Mike Conley? Considering Conley’s contract and the fact he missed nearly the entire season, I have to imagine he’s unmovable right now. It would be challenging playing the two together defensively speaking. I have a hard time imagining they’d take Young.

It’s not as far-fetched as you think it may be. Golden State picked up Stephen Curry while having Monta Ellis, even Atlanta picked up Dennis Schröder while having Jeff Teague.

You make a good point especially regarding Steph Curry and Monta Ellis. Ellis was hands down the Warriors best player at the time and it didn’t stop them from taking Curry. That’s largely Memphis’s situation although it’s debatable if Conley or Gasol is the Grizzlies best player.

I guess my thought centered around Memphis wanting to compete for the playoffs now so it would increase the likelihood of taking someone who could fill in one of their holes. I could see them taking the best player available and planning for the future or even seeing them blow things up by dealing Gasol, Conley, and any other big contract they could she’d.

Remember Memphis was playing so well before Conley got hurt. After that the Wheels fell off. But they got a steal in Dillion Brooks who can start and play 3 positions. Tyreke Evans had his best season since his rookie year. Marshon Brooks played well after joining late in the season. The biggest concern is how Conley returns from that injury.

Memphis interests in Trae Young came from someone who is close to Memphis Top decision makers. They’ve been searching for Conley’s backup for yrs. In Young they get that and someone who could eventually replace him. As a Grizzlies fan I’d be ok with Porter, Young or Bagley if he falls. I Praying it’ll be Porter. JJJ is a bit overrated,he Reminds me of the late Lorenzen Wright. Good role player, but not a star.

To be honest, Im picking Porter to go at #4 but that doesnt mean I think he’s a lock to be a good pro. He has the potential, but I was watching and I thought he had some offensive similarities to Andrea Bargnani which down right scares me, even though Bargnani had some offensive skills..
