Lets talk about guys that deserve a max deal… People often think that there a alot of Max Deal players in the NBA and I disagree… When I think of a max player, I think of someone who can, without a doubt, get you to the playoffs.. They should have no glaring weakness and if they do, they need to have a strength that compensates for that. They are the first option, the team leader and they lead your team in a couple categories. A max player looks like this:

Guard: A max guard is a guy that will be the leader in the NBA in either points or assist.. Now they cant just get points or just assist.. They have to do a little bit of everything..

Guards that I think deserve a max deal:

Dwayne Wade – Getting up in age but can still get it done at a high level for another 4 years.. He can do everything. He has lead the NBA in scoring, been the Finals MVP, has a ring and is a tremendous defensive player. This year, which wasnt even his best statistical year, he averaged 26 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assist, 2 steals, and 1 block…

    Others that dont:

Kobe – Older now but still deserves alot of money.. He has gotten his max deal and he probably shouldnt get another. He still gets it done at the highest level but he is getting older so naturally, you arent going to sign him for the next 5 years with a max deal..

Deron – Has proved to be, maybe, the best PG in the league.. He has some questions about his game but right now, he isnt quite a max deal guy.

CP3 – His recent injuries make me question his durability. You arent going to pay a guy that cant stay healthy.. He is a great player but if he doesnt stay healthy all next year, he isnt a max player.. If he plays in over 74 games next year, then I would give him a max..

Rondo – Im sure he will get one from the Celtics when his contract runs up but as of now, he isnt deserving of one. He needs to prove he is a great player without great players around him. When he shows he is great, he will get one.. The Celtics arent going to let someone else get him.

JJ – He isnt a first option. Its that simple.. You dont pay someone to do something they cant. Now JJ is a great player, dont get me wrong, but he doesnt deserve Lebron money..

Forwards – A forward that deserves Max money is a guy that can do a lot of things.. He needs to rebound, score, defend, and get others involved.

Forwards that I think deserve a Max Deal:

Lebron – Duh.. Can do everything imaginable.. Isnt the greatest shooter but he can compensate for that.. He was compared to Magic coming out of HS and he has lived up to it. Even with all of that, the monkey on his back is that ring.. His numbers from this past year: 30 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assist, 2 steals, and 1 block.

Bosh – He is the best PF in the league right now.. He is just on a terrible team. He can dribble, shoot, defend, rebound.. What cant he do?? I doubt his ability to be a legit first option on a championship team but he still deserves that money… Pair him with a guy like JJ and Bosh will be legit.. 24 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assist, 1 block, and 1 steal..

    Others that dont:

Carmelo – So far, Melo is a great scorer and not great at much else.. He isnt a great rebounder, not a great defender and not a great passser.. Maybe by next year I will change my mind but as of now, he deserves alot of money and he is a number one option but essentially, he is a great scorer and average at pretty much everything else.

Durant – He has had one great year.. If he keeps his scoring like it is and improve everything else, he is defiantly a max guy.. Right now, a great player that lead his team but is still young.. When a guy is that young, you dont know if he had one great year and then he just flames out… If he is great again next year, give this guy his money.

Amare – This guy is a franchise changer but can he do it without a great PG?? IDK. He is going to make his money and he deserves alot but he isnt a max deal guy..

Center – A center, that deserves a max deal, is a guy who can get 20 points, around 12 rebounds, and change the game from a defensive stand point. He needs to be on the defensive first or second team.

Centers that I think deserve a Max Deal:

Dwight Howard – He is a great C.. He defends, rebounds, scores, and has a presence that no other player can mimic.. He has great size and strength.. Had 18 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assist, 3 blocks and 1 seal.

    Others that dont:

Andrew Bynum – His questions with durability are a big thing with him. He has shown the ability to improve but I dont think he will ever be a max deal center. Could still be a great player but not a max player.

Brook Lopez – This is a guy that I think will be a max player.. He can do more than Howard on the offensive end. Can defend and rebound at a high level.. Once he gets a little stronger and starts being a more consistent player, he will get his money.

Andrew Bogut – Could be a max guy if he gets it together. Just like Bynum, Bogut has some durability issues.. Has the skill and ability to be a great C but just cant seem to get it all together..

Rondo definitely doesn’t deserve max deal…i think 15 mln would be enough for him

No one deserves that much money for playing a game for a career. Sorry but that is the truth. I love watching these guys play but in the end they are getting paid way too much for what they get to do for a living.

I said that Bynum never will..

I said the Cs will give Rondo a max deal whether he deserves it or not.

the following are max players in my eyes…..

    Deron Williams
    Chris Paul
    Kobe Bryant
    Dwayne Wade
    Lebron James
    Carmelo Anthony
    Kevin Durant
    Crhis Bosh
    Dwight Howard

…. Actually i’ll throw dirk nowitzki in there for the next couple years aswell.

But I agree with M-DYMES that nba players are getting paid too much. i dont think they should get paid more than the stars of the nfl, with how much they put their health on the line.

With that said, these guys have proven year after year to be the face of their franchises, and if you have one of these players on your team, then you have an advantage.

Did Dwight Howard really average a seal per game? Is that sealslaughter?

But yeah they are sooooo overpaid, a player plays maximum 109 games per season around 35 minuites per game, makes it 3815 minuites per year, so a max contract guy gets like 5000 dollars per minuite on court? Why? A good medic or proffesor doesn’t get 5% of that money but they IMO deserve it more. The young guys still waste all their money on crap they don’t need

I agree with everyone but this is a multi-billion dollar business. There arent many colleges that make that much money…

if you were a franchise and couldnt get any of the max players you think deserve it and the other players said max deal or nothing you would sign and trade or let them go i guess.

your saying you would get rid of durant if he wanted a max deal????? Players are worth whatever somebody will pay them at that time. granted people hand out too much money to a lot of players but you would sign a few of those players to max deals if you cant get somebody else.

First of all.. Carmelo & Durant are max guys.

Bosh isn’t the best 4 in the league, Pau Gasol is.

I do agree that basically no one is worth that much money..

      better at what?

Pau is a better fit, he’s a natural 4/5 & plays better defense. Dirk is more diverse on offense, of course but he can get caught up sometimes and stop the flow.

Pau is a guy you know you can win with, because you don’t have to change anything.

A max deal is horrible with how low the NBA salary cap. Guys need to take either less years, more money or more years, less money not both because it restricts teams in getting better. In the NBA the most foolish thing to do is trade away draft picks, you look at all the young and coming teams they are building through the draft. You win through the draft, not free agency. My knicks don’t get this, but oh well.

If you said he never will, then why put him on this list?
