Marquis Teague is not having the year ALOT of people thought he would have, which was to be another top notch one and done PG in Kentucky’s dribble drive offense.

Some are even suggesting he may have to go back to Kentucky for another year or two….

I thought the same thing, until I thought about Eric Bledsoe

Teague and Bledsoe have the same stats

6’1 190 pounds 6’7 wingspans and elite athleticism.

Teague so far is averaging 10.7 PPG 4.5 APG 2.4 RPG and 3.2 TO’s per game

Bledsoe averaged 11.3 PPG 2.8 APG 3.1 RPG and 3.1 TO’s per game

Although Bledsoe had some big games 24,7 and 4 against Moorehead State, 23 points vs Indiana, 25,7,5 against Florida, and 29 points vs ETSU in the NCAA Tourney, I still think Teague has at least 3 or 4 big games in him before the year is out and solidifies himself as a late lottery pick.

The NBA is all about potential in most cases, and you’d be lying to yourself if you thought Bledsoe would be one and done let alone almost a lottery pick after being virtually uknown a year before he entered college.

Teague on the other hand, was the #1 rated PG in America, a McDonalds AA, has a brother in the NBA, and is the starting PG for the most talented team in the country.

He hasnt shown the ability to run a team yet, but neither than Bledsoe, Bledsoe played shooting guard the entire year and still was a first round pick.

Those are just my thoughts, and now I believe Teague still will crack the first round regardless of what happens from here on out, long as he doesnt just flat out suck of course, but long as he plays decent I think he gets in.

    Nice comparison…

I still prefer kabongo as an nba prospect : he has more pg skills and I think the nba will surely more and more favored that kind of pg in the futur (when you see the rubio’s effect on minny).

My biggest concern with Kabongo is his size and lack of athleticism, yes he is fast and quick which translates to the NBA, but he is only 165 pounds? And can barely dunk, which means he is going to have a very very difficult time finishing at the rim.

His comparison is Rondo who was about the same size in college but Rondo had great leaping ability, I have never seen Kabongo dunk, not on a mixtape in a game nothing, that worrys me, not saying he cant dunk, but I dont think he can jump that high, mix that with a very small frame, unless he adds some weight he’s going to struggle.

I’ve never seen Tony Parker dunk either, yet he’s a great finisher around the rim.

Tony Parker is 180 pounds, he can afford a little bumps here and there, Kabongo is 160-165 pounds big difference trust me.

Teague is more complete player than Kabongo. Teague is stronger, better shooter, better athlete and physically will be able to match up better against big/athletic NBA PGs. As of right now, Teague is more NBA ready than Kabongo.

Yea, thats why I feel even tho Teague isnt having the year everyone expected, he still will be the best PG available, in terms of what the NBA wants.

    Size(6-2 190)

Quickness,Speed,Leaping Ability,Strength, he has the complete package.

That was a strong argument, Indiana.
Actually, I was always amazed by Parker’s ability to finish around the rim it must be some kind of sorcery. Really, when you look how he finish in traffic surounded by bigs who are like 10 inches bigger it looks imposible that someone this size can make it. He must be some kind of wizard, does Kabongo has those kind of tricks in his pocker or not ?

Personally, I do not have worries about his offense, defensively yes, when he will play against someone like Andre Miller it would be just unfair. Still, offensively his main thing is to distribute the ball, noone will need him to score much and he will always get a few easy looks to hesitate because defenders will be thinking about his ability to pass mostly.

coming from someone who has seen every Kentucky game this year, Teague is a horrendous shooter and often poor decision maker. I haven’t seen Kabongo play, therefore I cannot comment on his abilities. Teague however is very quick, athletic, and seems to be very coachable and eager to learn, all of which will increase interest from teams drafting on potential.

Yea, but this topic isnt about Teague and Kabongo.

It’s about Teague and being similar to Eric Bledsoe, or having the type of season Bledsoe had and still getting drafted pretty high.

but to be drafted very high : you’re compared to other players from the same position. And kabongo seems is best rival. Marshall is in the mix too, whereas rivers will surely be considered as a combo or a small scoring sg.

teague sure will be drafted (top 20) cause he has some upside and pg is not the strongest position of the next draft (sf and pf). He is also the best pg from an athletic point of view, but basket is not only about athletic abilities especially for a pg (rubio is a great example of that) and we could still have some surprise at the combine.

Most of Bledsoe’s big games came from pouring in threes if I remember correctly. Teague will never be the shooter Bledsoe was, and conversely Bledsoe will never compare to Teague in passing and getting to the rim. They both had a tendency to turn it over a lot, and really forced things at time. When Wall was in foul trouble and Bledsoe had to run the point, Kentucky’s offense struggled. Teague has a much higher ceiling.

Yes Bledsoe poured in 3’s in most of his big games, but in the game against Moorehead where he had 24 points he only hit one 3, 25 against Florida only three 3’s, Bledsoe still showed the ability to get to the rim whenever he wanted, it’s just what he did when he got to the lane is what caused concern.

I’m not saying Teague and Bledsoe are the same player, they are not, but they are two crazy athletic PG’s who are having subpar seasons, and I see Teague getting drafted as high or higher than Bledsoe, just off his potential alone, thats what the whole topic is about.

Kabongo doesnt shoot but seems 2 have a way better feel 4 the position the Teague does. Kabongo can and will add weight, if thats his biggest issue then he has a bright future. I havent seen Teague knock down an open jumper all year, he seems very indecisive alot of the time  and turns the ball over alot, honestly i think Ryan Harrow will come in2 UK an take his starting job next season. I juss dont see Teague being selected in the 1st round this year at this point.

No arguments on that point. Teague will probably go 16-18, and maybe a little higher depending on Kentucky’s postseason success.

Marquis Teague has a bigger role than Myck Kabongo on their respectable teams. Marquis is playing for a Coach that had a guy at his position go in the top ten in each of the past four drafts, now that’s playing with and under pressure. Kentucky goal is to Win the Championship, Texas goal is to atleast make it to the tournament and go as far as they can go. These guys are in different positions. Marquis only have leaping ability on Kabongo. Kabongo is the better NBA prospect out of the two. Both of these guys will be top Ten draft picks. Both guys will get better as the season reach Tournament time, just wait and watch.

If Teague played for NorthEastern you probably would have never heard of him. I think he is more hype than production. The NBA is sold on UK guards, therefore he will go first round.  Sure he is quick, and athletic, but so is Lerenzo Brown (NC State), Josiah Turner(Zona) , Trey Burke (Michigan) Tony Wroten (UW), and have you seen B.J Young(Arkansas)? My point is that Teague is not special. He has good athleticism and a big-time name and plays for a big-time school and that will be enough to get into the first round.

Hmmm IDK about that, if Teague played for Northeastern or a lower level school he might be dominating.

You got to think about it, Teague has to play a certain way at UK, although he isnt living up to what people thought he was going to do, and he should be playing better, he still has other people around him that can score so he has to be a pass first point, something he’s probably never been. I’m not taking up for him cause he should be playing better.

But on the other hand, you got to remember Teague has been labeled a Lottery pick since his JR year of HS, he was the #1 PG in the country for a reason, he was a McDonalds AA for a reason, he was wanted by every school in America for a reason, I think if Teague was at a lower school he would be dominating, he just has a certain job he has to do at UK that he cant seem to do right now.

    He can play.

I don’t think Marquis Teague will ever be a great distributor, but he can be a good penetrate and score or kick PG, like his brother is starting to look like for the Hawks.

Bledsoe was much better in college than Teague was though, but Teague translates as a better NBA prospect
