If this is true, the Utah Jazz must be very high on Luke Babbitt. He would be a good/great player for the Jazz. What are your guy’s thoughts about this?

Seems like a solid player, but it still doesn’t address the post defense, but the Jazz always find diamonds in the rough. Hopefully they can find a stellar defensive presence, so they can have a chance to beat the Lakers.

    They could do worse…

Less of a priority. But it isn’t really going to help our team compete any better against someone like the Lakers. It doesn’t really address any particular need. We already have plenty of guys who can score. But I guess another shooter isn’t a bad thing. At least he has a skill.

I mean to be honest, Babbitt is a good pick, but I would consider getting Aldrich. Pau is too skilled and will burn the Jazz with the slightest advantage.

Who likes players who have a certain skill they can excel at. Some area of the game where you know they can contribute every night. That’s why I like Whiteside. The guy can flat out swat away shots like King Kong swats away airplanes.

Might be good at getting posterized. Maybe we should draft him after all.

Which NBA team has Brescia and Rio Grande on their schedule next year?

As for the hoopsworld report, they are giving conflicting info in that article in their write up of Monroe, Babbitt, and Henry. All those rumors can’t be true.

Whiteside would be a good pick for the Jazz, but is he a Sloan type of player? Aldrich may not be the fanciest player, but he could transition into the NBA smoother than Whiteside because he’s been under a good system, while Whiteside played in Marshall. I don’t know. Those are just my two cents.

whiteside wouldnt be a good pick for them imo. hes not strong very raw and will take years to develope if he ever developes into a good player. And all these are are rumors so i wouldnt put a bunch of stock into any of them other then the top pick or 2. most teams dont even know for certain who they will pick

Just because Whiteside is a good shot-blocker doesn’t mean he’s a good fit. He was abused by any big man that could get in his chest. I don’t see him being good in the NBA really. He’s super weak for a 7 foot player and was the type of shot-blocker that would compromise post position even if his man has the ball to get blocks..That worked in the C-USA, but in the NBA? Not likely.

Aldrich is easily the best fit for the Jazz.

I’m with you, I can’t under stand why people keep wanting the Jazz to pick Aldrich, he is not what we need, we already have two 7 footers that are farther along in their development than Aldrich. We don’t need to have him on the bench, working to try to learn Sloan’s system and prove himself worthy to get PT. He is not that good.
What we need is a long, athletic PF, with a defensive mindset like Udoh.
As far a Babbitt is concerned, if we can’t get Udoh or Monroe, I would be fine with Babbitt. Very skilled player.

I wasn’t very high on him at first, but now I really like the guy. If he goes #9 to the Jazz I would be very happy.

why wouldnt they want cole?..the 2 guys on the bench is festinko and dufus. stink is a big body but hes sooooo raw and not ready that it will be years before hes even a average big man. dufus is not a banger by any stretch of the imagination and isnt a defender either. Cole is a banger and a good defensive big man that can actually score a lil. the lakers showed that the jazz need some banging bigs that can actually play. not sure why they would draft a pf unless they plan on the guy being a back up in the future or trade millsap

Is he is kind of a tweener between the three and the four, and is regarded my most scouts as a below average defender. He may not be strong enough to guard most power forwards, and he may not be quick enough to guard most small forwards. He could be a defensive liability. However, on offense, the kid has few weaknesses. He can flat out shoot the ball, rebounds alright, and has more athletic ability then what some might think. Jerry Sloan is just SO defensive minded…

Thanks for putting that video of Babbitt on for everyone to see, hopefully that will give people an idea of why he could be special.
I watched that a few weeks ago and that started me thinking that it would’t be too shabby if the Jazz ended up with a SF with those skills.
I still want the Jazz to address the need to get taller, longer and more defensive minded at the 4 spot but Babbitt would be OK with me if the PF’s they want aren’t there.

Always funny when people put up a Youtube video to validate a player being good…

Video’s don’t guarantee a player is going to be good, but you can at least see his skill set, videos are only a part of evaluating a player but it is nice to see how a player moves and whether or not he can do certain things. Not many players coming into the NBA have the complete offensive game Babbitt has. Especially a player 6’9″.

Well if he is our pick then we must be pretty sure we can resign Boozer or that AK will stay healthy all year (which I highly doubt) and be a good back up four. Babbitt is not gonna play the 4. He will be backing up AK at first and then starting probably midseason. I would not mind drafting him as it would give us another SF bigger than Miles to start when AK gets hurt. I would feel much better though if we drafted a 4 that could play defense like Udoh. Then we would be prepared if Booz does leave. If we don’t draft a 4 and he still ends up leaving then we are screwed and are forced to use KK as a backup who sucks. I dont even want to see him play. Fez is not a bad backup and I am fine with him, but I am tired and have given up on KK. I don’t want to use him as a backup once AK gets hurt. That is my only concern with Babbitt. We need a backup 4 more then a three. Maybe we can strike a trade with some other team for Sanders in the mid first round.

In Chad Ford’s Mock Draft 4.0 he has the Jazz picking Luke Babbitt at #9 and as part of his comments on the pick he said “The Jazz have been higher on Babbitt than most all year. The rest of the league is playing catch-up to what Utah was saying in January.”
