rich.homie.mitchParticipantI know this is a long shot of an idea, probably not the smartest idea either but I just wanted to throw it out there and get some feedback.
Since tanking has been such a topic and no one really knows a good way to fix it, why not throw some competition into it like a tournament. You could get some viewers, might not a lot but still.
So throw in the lottery teams and place them in a tournament. Best record 1 seed worst last seed etc… just like the playoffs.
So if you win the tournament the team that won will either get a better % or odds to win the lottery, or if you win you get the #1 pick and 2nd gets #2,.. not sure how the other teams would work out for that aspect of it. So I’d just go with the odds and better % of getting the #1 pick.
Positives – It would cause teams to get better and sign free agents. Would hinder taking and make teams some what enjoyable to watch.
Negatives – Free agents will be getting overpaid, this is why they need to get rid of the guaranteed deals and max contracts so this would be avoided (i think). Also the suns would be winning since they’re the best team by far.
I may have missed some things, or not went to far in depth but this was just an idea of mine and wanting some feedback for it. Feel free to leave some comments on what to add or change etc…

BobbyqrsParticipantMy idea has always been that the worst 3 teams are disqualified from the number one pick

Toronto16ParticipantIf I’m a player why am I playing extra games and risking injury for some college kid, especially one that could potentially take my minutes? No thanks.

RooneyParticipantWhat free agents are gonna sign with terrible teams? Unless they are going to be overpaid and that wont help the team at all.

ahuang16ParticipantI just feel that the better teams that don’t make the lottery will keep winning and getting top pick. That makes it too difficult for the bottom feeders to crawl their way out.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantSuch a counter intuitive idea, small market teams need the lottery to build their teams, if a star bolts from their team in free agency and they’re continuously getting knocked out in the first round of this tournament, that means certain teams that can’t afford to go into tax will always be bad. This is just flat out silly, a team like Phoenix could of added Andrew Wiggins this off season. That’s not good for parity and that’s what Adam Silver seems to be preaching.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantAlso, the players would never EVER agree to getting rid of guaranteed contracts, are you kidding me???? The NBAPA fought tooth and nail to GET guaranteed contracts so the NBA wouldnt just be like the NFL where a team offers a player a huge contract and cuts him half way through it every time. This would not help teams to sign free agents, because free agents still want to go to certain destinations, this would just make the rich richer and the poor teams so so so much worse off.

scootover7ParticipantI would like to see a lottery wheel. Here is how it would work, all the teams who didn’t make the playoffs are on a giant lottery wheel. The wheel is spun one time ( in 14 rounds). Whoever it lands on that is the team that gets that pick. The wheel starts with the 14th pick and goes down to the number one pick. I think if they did this it would be fair. I"m sure there are some problems with my theory, but do we really know who stuck what teams in the envelopes. This way it keeps it from being rigged. Fair or not? Like my idea or not? Tell me why or why not?

RooneyParticipantSo does the worst team have the best odds to get the pick? If that’s the case I like this idea and if they change up the odds somewhat. I completely disagree with Mark Cuban’s idea and the worst 4 teams having the same chance. I would like the odds to win the pick for the worst teams to be closer. This is for the wheel.

scootover7ParticipantYou could have so many spaces on the wheel ( maybe 50 spaces and it could go like this)
Worst Team- 10
Second Worst- 9
Third Worst- 8
Fourth Worst- 7
Fifth Worst- 4
Sixth Worst- 3
Seventh Worst- 2
8th-14th worst- 1I’m not sure the best way to do this, but at least having a lottery wheel would make it less rigged. The wheel has to be spun on TV where all can see it done ( the envelopes just are too sneaky to me and smell rigging to me).
