Hoopshype reports that the rl Rockets are making Lin and Asik available. They believeb that they definitely will sign Howard and wants to completely build around him. Robinson trade gives them space to give Howard a max deal already. Rumor is a sign and trade with Lin for Calderón. What other teams do you think will be interested? Off thetop of my head:

Asik to wolves for Derrick Williams?

Lin and Asik to Heat for Chalmers and Miller?

If the Hawks do not want to tank,
sign and trade Teague/Korver or Josh Smithfor Lin/Asik? Cap space to fill out roster and Lin/Asik starts for two years while our rookies develop.

Don’t want anything to do with Lin but I’d love to trade josh smith for asik. Much rather keep Teague than Lin.

Just drafted Schroeder, they’ll rather have Lin for 2 years, versus Teague ata longer contract. Also, Rockets wouldn’t have space to deal Asik alone for Smith if they’re going to offer Howard a max.

Asik would be good as centre for the Hawks with Horford as PF. If the Hawks can sign Teague and possibly Iggy or Corey Brewer and let Josh Smith walk they will better better off…

I don’t think Lin is tradable, but Asik is a top center in the league with Hibbert, Gasol, Howard, Lopez, Gortat, Vucevic, a healthy Bynum, and Noah. He can defend, rebound, and has a nice offensive game, especially on put backs. He doesn’t space the floor like the offenses are trending towards but he can start on a championship caliber club.

Are they targeting a point guard in free agency? Who would they start if they got rid of Lin?

So if they do get/wanna get Howard I can see them trying to trade both. They both have fairly high values right now (asik being much higher than Lin at the moment).so here are my top two outcomes:
    1) sign howard, sign and trade smith for asik, trade Lin for udoh and ish smith, and sign Calderon.

You get Howard and trade asik as that’s to much to pay for a backup for a guy who is Howard’s friend (?). Atlanta gets a good starting centre and Horford finally gets to play pf. Bucks have no backcourt right now. Lin could bring them some life and probably more viewers if it gets all linsane again. Udoh and smith would just be backups, so they’re not losing much. I’m a huge Calderon fan, so I think he might take this deal as its a playoff team and they can promise him a starting job (he hates being a backup lol). Also having a smart sweet shooting point guard with Howard and smith would be a great fit. The only problem would be that harden wouldn’t get to handle the ball as much as Calderon is a prototypical point guard.

    2) sign howard and trade asik and Lin for rondo and bass.

If the celtics do want to trade rondo and tank, I cold see them doing this. Lin would be one of the very few offensive players on Boston plus he could keep the crowd happy. Asik would be a future cornerstone for them and olynyk could play beside him. Houston gets rid of their contracts while taking on rondo who Boston wants to trade and bass who is in a logjam in Boston an has played beside Howard before.

I think you can clear enough cap space to sign Smith straight up if you clear the 16-17 million that Lin and Asik cost. I think Asik could land you at least a top 6 protected pick. From a really good team he could get you a rookie scale guy now and a couple first rounders if they are expected to be late picks. Asik is actually a pretty good bargain at 8.5 million, especially if Pek gets the 12+ million he deserves. They would only be able to take on minimum guys but they could offer Smith 13 a year over 5 years.
Lin is such a interesting case, what can you get for him in a trade in terms of draft picks and future considerations?

Also if Smith is not the target and the 16 or so million Asik and Lin make combined could be sent out to for what and who?

Lin could go to NO for Ryan Anderson and Brian Roberts. Anderson obviously worked really well with D12 and Roberts is a serviceable back up pg on the cheap. Him and Beverly could be the cheapest yet serviceable back courts in NBA history. I forgot they have Canaan also all they really need is another 3. Parsons is the only real 3 they have.

No way they trade Lin/Asik for Chalmers/Miller. The money doesn’t match up with Asik and Lin both signed to deals that increase in value tremendously over the length of the contract. Not to mention that Mike Miller is way overpaid to play so few games, and doesn’t really replicate the things that Asik does on the court. I feel like Asik would be a great player to pair with Howard because Asik doesn’t really need the ball to be effective. They already have Chandler Parsons that does what Miller does and more. If they go in another direction, it makes more sense for them to go with a deal for Josh Smith.

Not sure anyone is jumping for joy staring at those contracts for guys who are decent. I think Asik’s deal balloons to like $15 Million in the 3rd year which will kill that team doing anything else. Silly contracts are super until you need to move that guy 0 then, not so much

I think every single proposed Asik/Lin trade on this thread doesn’t work. Combined their contracts are 10.5 million this year and 30 mil next year. Whoever trades for them will have to swallow that poison pill contract next year.
I cant imagine teague and korver signing for 10.5 mil combined and Danny Ferry destroying his cap space to the tune of 30 mil to get 2 average guys at their positions. Same as Josh Smith, he ain’t signing for 10.5 mil.
Ryan anderson/brian roberts for Lin doesnt work at all money wise let alone the fact that Lin would be their third point guard and why on earth would NO give up their 2nd best big man in Anderson for that?
